It really depends on who brings the items down to the show. My favourite reactions are when working class families suddenly realised their great grandmothers silver is worth £20,000. Sadly more and more people take along items that they already know the value of. It's simply a chance to be on TV and show off a family piece
3:24 isn't this stealing on the plumbers part? The right thing to do, would be to ask the owner of said septic/cold water tank, if they had lost something. IMO, maybe the owner called him to see if he could retrieve the bracelet after it being accidently flushed down the toilet. After all, it is quite valuable. When he found it, he decided he wasn't getting paid well enough, to literally have to go through the crap to find it and just decided to keep. He didn't keep it in his tool box, he took it home, they cleaned it and waited for several years. This would explain why he sent his wife to go get it appraised at the AR show. This is what I took from this interaction and it is only my opinion. They should hope that the true owner of this piece, does not see this video. IMO.
So hang on, he is working as a plumber in someone's house, finds a bit of jewellery in a water tank, and keeps the piece of jewellery for himself. Isn't that called theft. 2:55

@@katamick8541 I doubt that he was groping around blindly in a septic tank. Much more likely that it was a water tank (either hot or cold) with a lot of scale in it due to hard water. In the former case, it could have been dropped accidentally. The latter case suggests deliberate concealment: either by the owner, or since it was a Victorian piece, possibly by a servant who intended to smuggle it out later but never managed.

A BIG negative to Antiques Roadshow for never telling the price of the of the damn flying V. What's it worth? After all, that is what this shows about.
I think it's hilarious that pot guy has now collected thousands of pieces of pottery. ...No matter what the pot's worth they likely now have an immense collection of junky looking pottery...cause that's all they had to go on.
No. It's important to know the value for insurance purposes, something the US AR usually states. It's great to know if you want to sell it. What you're missing is what they learn about their items and what their stories about them teach us. Ego? Maybe, but not so much. A really sad commentary, yours. It does certainly show what you do and don't value. Maybe this isn't a show you should watch, as it seems to push your jealousy button.
"Well, I've been running the tip (landfill) for about seventeen years, just over, and I've got it through the years, chucked away in the tip. I've got salvage rights for whatever comes in, I pay for, it belongs to me."
The woman with all the jewelry found it in rubbish? Aw, go on. She really meant, "Well, my grandfather was a jewel thief, but he didn't know how to locate a fence, so the opals, sapphires, etc, have just stayed in the family."
Nah, people near us ran a council tip. They had the legal salvage rights to anything dumped there. Nobody else was even allowed to wander around and have a look, except for our 10-year old son to whom they had taken a shine.
I wish the Antiques Roadshow experts Could find my Grandmother’s doll and jewelry I had to sell in 2011 in Wisconsin USA because I don’t think I got a fair price for them. The doll was older than 1910 with human hair, sawdust arms and legs, Blinking eyes, and teeth in open lips. The rings were a coral colored cameo In 24 it gold. And a green emerald (? Cathy Hughes it’s a fallacy, studies show British dental hygiene and standards are higher than the US. We just don’t knock them all out and have fake veneers put in
@@meandthepotatoes4916 if they can't afford it that's understandable. Otherwise I personally would have the veneers over a mouth full of bad teeth that can affect my health. the British are so cool, calm and collected whenever they hear the estimates.
