Finding the sweet spot of a lens... A good demonstration why you have to consider several factors to obtain the best possible image quality from your camera and lens combination.

    Thanks! Very useful comparison.
I am doing similar tests between my A7R and A5100 cameras, using the 55 f/1.8.

Deepak Murthy It is a very interesting point because many think that you get the best results in terms of sharpness by closing down the aperture as much as possible...

Thanks for the video! For landscape or architecture I think this can be very important, but what's your take on worrying about the effects of diffraction for street photography? I don't think too many people would be stopping down to the minimum aperture anyway, but I've seen some people use f/11 or so and zone focus.

***** Personally I try to stay in the 5.6 to 8.0 range for street photography. Going beyond that will create the effect. How critical the issue will be is hard to say. I think that, if you use a focal length of around 35mm (full frame or equivalent) f8 should give you more than enough DOF to deal with most situations in street photography. One more stop will not destroy your image! It's just something you have to take into consideration.

Hi, I got two questions, I really hope you can help me. I have a Sony A7-2 with the 55mm f1.8 lens (my first digital camera) and I want to shoot in AUTO HDR, I have the camera on a tripod, I’m trying to avoid camera shake by using the camera’s 2 second self timer, I don’t see it available to me, am I doing something wrong or its not an option while shooting in auto (do I just get a cable release?). The second question is related to the same photo, while shooting in AUTO HDR does the camera choose all the settings for me? (ISO, f-stop, shutter speed), or do I have any say in the matter? After all, it is my camera (LOL). Thank you.

This is a obvious thing. Your number of f stops should be relevant to your distance to the object. I like shooting with my 35mm on Canon 6d with f2.8 -5.6 on the street and results are great. Much better then 5.6-8.0. It depends if you want Isolate your subject or not. For what you need your expansive bulky 50mm f1.8 on street if your preference is f5.6 to 8. Better buy smaller Panasonic Gm1 with 20mm f1.7 and balance between f2.0-3.5. This will cost you 3 times less money and is much more portable.

It seems that the A7II is better down to 1 fstop and up to 1fstop, but it costs what.. 4 times the price of the A6000?
