This is really essential career advice! You can get a lot of customer service experience from retail, which then translates into great people skills for any role. Nice work, Stacy!
Thank you so much! I couldn't agree more. Retail is incredibly valuable and versatile experience, it just needs to be demonstrated with the right lens 💪
I agree! I used to do recruiting and we used to place people in retail positions. Now I teach marketing and sales and my clients who've had retail experience tend to do better at sales because of exactly what you just said - they know how weird humans are lol.
That's awesome! I almost did recruiting for that reason- the idea of getting people jobs and networking sounded like so much fun lol. How was your experience as a recruiter?
Super organized and easy to read Stacy, great video! Totally agree on building people skills via a retail job. I'll add to that by saying serving in restaurants will build those skills ten fold! I had 2 retail jobs out of high school then spent 23 years in hospitality before starting my own business. Serving is a tough industry but any customer service is a must for sure!
That's so inspiring and awesome, Nisreen- I've never been a server (only a hostess at 2 restaurants) but without a doubt servers hustle way harder than we do 😳 Congrats on starting your business!
Love the thorough walkthrough - I've actually been trying to help my younger brother in utilizing his retail experience to transition into an internship more in-line with his field of study. Sharing this with him now! 😀
Thank you Torie! That's exactly why I wanted to make this video, because the phrase 'targeted resume' is said so often but the actual instructions are rarely given.
what is a good resume to apply at best buy i don't know what to write ? i'm applying for stocker but i dont have job experience im 18 trying to get my first job.
If you don't have any paid work experience, you can definitely put class projects/volunteer positions in the "experience" section! Let me know if you have any other questions :)
