I just wish they would make expansion runs for this run. The only one I can find is an 8 x 8 or maybe the dog kennel which is a 10 x 10 but they’re not the same color and they don’t have a roof.
Great video. I'm glad you made an update video! Thanks for your transparency about losing your chickens. I'm sorry about those hard lessons, I'll try to learn from them too. God bless!
We purchased this coop and run in March 2021 at Tractor Supply. There were some changes to the coop itself, but generally, it's the same exact coop. It's available.
Good deal!! I have looked online and haven’t seen it. I have seen the run just not the coop. Thanks for the info. That’s what we are all here for to let everyone know what’s going on. Thanks again!!
So glad you did an update video. Was well worth the watch! Was just looking at this setup today. I bought the fencing. Going to use the Idea of hardware cloth to the bottom. Thanks for sharing!
I wish I had some chickens on my property. I live in the city and would have to see if they permit them. I use to have them when I was a teenager and enjoyed raising them for years. Loved the eggs.
Yea we used to live in the city and have to buy our eggs. Having a supply of fresh eggs on hand is always nice. Maybe they will let you have hens with no rooster. The noise is the main thing in the city and the hens are relatively quite. Good luck!!
All you have to do on the “run” enclosure is leave out a four foot section and snug your chicken house/coop right up to it with appropriate wire fencing on edges.
Bought this early this week. But evidently 8x8 cover is no longer available. Even tried Amazon and surprisingly didn’t have that size either. You have a nice set up either 2 yrs ago & now.
Both videos on this coop are very good .... thank you. 2 questions: 1) we're concerned about ventilation within the coop. There appears to be no cross ventilation. We live in a hot area. Would it be possible to cut holes in the top part of the front or side walls, covering them with wire, to allow more air in? 2) would it be possible to put the nesting boxes on the ground in the bottom area of the coop that's open? Thanks again for all the work you put into your videos. Very much appreciated.
Sorry missed this one. Yes, you could cut holes for side vents if you want to. As you stated just make sure to cover with sone type of chicken wiring. Sorry for the delay in getting back
That’s my question. I just bought one of these, and was thinking of cutting a large ventilation hole on the part above the door so that there would be some cross ventilation.
Why did you take the cedar out? BTW TSC does still carry this it’s how I found your channel lol trying to figure out what would be my best option because it’s time for a new coat just because mines old and falling apart and I have to get some protection from hawks. THANK YOU THESE HAVE BEEN SO HELPFUL
Yea I didn’t realize they started carrying it again till it was brought to my attention. They changed it up a bit but I do see they carry it. They got rid of one nesting box and one roosting pole.
Yea it’s the same size. I went to Tractor Supply and looked. The design is actually better. We never used the middle nesting box because a bar was always in the way. They got rid of that nesting box and one roosting pole. It’s the same size though as well as the run. They simply made a better design in my opinion.
I think because of the lumber cost right now they are gouging prices on these sheds. I would try to get by a little longer until these lumber prices settle down. I bought mine from Lowe’s and it was $600 at the time I purchased it about 5 months ago.
What have you done to help with weatherproof in the rain? Mine lets puddles of water in after rain! I have the covered in a tarp for the time being but I’d like to remove it. Not exactly sure where the majority of the water is getting in.
The line coming to the coop is underground. That same black heat wire will then be wrapped around the hose exposed. Anywhere the line might freeze you wrap the black heat wire around it. Hope that helps
Hello sir, I am thinking of getting this coop. Two questions, do you think it would be a problem if I built this on a slope/hillside? I would even it out with blocks. Do you have any cons regarding this coop? Thank you.
I don’t see why you couldn’t build it on a hillside. I honestly don’t have any cons. We have loved it over the two years. We have since made it larger per the newest video we posted
@@monroehillfarm7423 thank you for a speedy response! I am definitely leaning towards this coop. It seems like the best option with predation and space for the flock to hangout. Cheers from San Diego.
As of now, tractor supply carries this. In the process of predator proofing it. The spring loaded latches on the nesting box doors are busted so am looking for something to replace them. For the price I paid for this thing, over $1500, you think it would’ve had better hardware.
@@monroehillfarm7423 you would think, but no one has them, not even tractor supply. I ordered some on Amazon but they worked in reverse, if that makes sense. Instead of pulling down to open, you had to push up to lock, so it just wouldn’t work with the size that they were, plus one of them, the spring didn’t work. Most are 5” with back plates too large for the area. Tractor supply replaced them with barrel bolts, but they’re too easy for a raccoon to open, if it ever comes to that. All the comments about raccoons killing their chickens has me paranoid, lol. We’re installing motion sensor lights, so hopefully that will take care of it.
@@6942pjka I had the same issue needing hardware . I called customer service and they sent me a whole door panel! It included the hardware. It was the only way they could do it. As for those latches that you were talking about, I am in complete agreement that a raccoon can figure that out so I put some different hardware with a padlock on both doors. I wish I knew the name of what I installed . I painted them black and put them on with rivets. We live in a very wooded area with all of the typical chicken predators so I pretty much keep it like Fort Knox. It’s just too risky. I also put a huge padlock on the main door to the run and tack welded 2 inch bar stock to the gap between the ground and the door. It looks awful. The metal is quite thin but I’ll deal with that later. It’s secure that’s what I care about.
Very interesting ideas. Well taken and appreciated. 💪

You bought it at the perfect time before the prices went too high!
They still carry the run with the chicken coop, i just got one 3 days ago. 4/27/24 and also the Tarp for the top
Just ordered this same one from tractor supply so they do still carry it. I ordered it and it will be shipped to my house 👍🏻

@@monroehillfarm7423 I have the same coop and everytime it rains it gets drenched inside the coop. Do you have this issue?
@@amykeys2083 really depends on how hard it rains, but short answer I do in the run but not the coop. Could always seal it with caulk in certain arwas
