      When I first saw them at Mudd Island on the Mississippi River with the ABB, a huge thunderstorm came up. Waves were white capping. Lightening was striking. They band jammed on In Memory of Elizabeth Reed and other jams and did not slack up. I’ll never forget that show! And I saw the ABB with Duane.

    Back in the '60's, I was buying Steppenwolf albums the day they hit the rack in the sacred store. Coming from a hardcore 'Wolf fan, this is another GREAT cover by The Mule. Glad to see they still use this song in their current shows.

      I always thought a Mule cover of Hippo Stomp would be awesome

    • @mikew6025
      @mikew6025 Год назад

      @@steelermule I'm not sure "Hippo Stomp" would be a good fit for The Mule. My first choice for another Steppenwolf cover would be "The Pusher" or maybe "From Here To There Eventually" or "Power Play" if you wanted a deeper track. All of those tracks would give Warren great opportunities to make that guitar soar.

    • @daveguitarnowski4402
      @daveguitarnowski4402 6 месяцев назад

      @@mikew6025I agree with everything except the Pusher. Overplayed in my opinion (in my life, anyway, so I'm kind of tired of it). Which means nothin' to nobody, of course! I also love Hippo Stomp! And maybe Jupiter's Child would be a good Mule tune. Who knows? Warren would kill them all, that's the only sure thing here, for sure.

    • @mikew6025
      @mikew6025 6 месяцев назад

      @@daveguitarnowski4402 "The Pusher" certainly did get a huge amount of airplay based on it's inclusion in "Easy Rider" and the confrontational attitude of the DJ's that played it. But it's got a guitar riff that Warren could really make into a great jam. Same for "Jupiter's Child", another great guitar riff. I just don't see "Hippo Stomp" working quite as well but since it is Warren Haynes maybe it would. The 'Wolf really has too many possible choices.

    • @daveguitarnowski4402
      @daveguitarnowski4402 6 месяцев назад +1

      @@mikew6025well, cool riff that it is, Warren could probably make it work. but it IS a quintessential Steppenwolf riff that may or may not be given the fire it demands.

    Not sure where this show is, but if it was anywhere in the NY/NJ/CT area, I was there. Saw them around this time at CBGBs...maybe five people in the audience...talked with Warren before the show too...sweetest dude...I felt like I was in on a big secret seeing these guys, like, wtf, why aren't more people here? I actually taped the CBs show using a portable DAT, but lost the tape...I did dupe it for some folks before I lost it so it exists...find it...it's worth it. Long live The Mule!!!

    I dig 'Steppenwolf the Second', and found Govt. Mule's rendition of this song.
    They changed the lyrics: in my opinion, the old Wolf sounds more articulate than the young Mule, while jammin' just as hearty - but as this concert's from Charleston, the Mule probably had a bellyful of bourbon or rum backstage, so maybe I should appreciate that it remembered the lyrics at all. :^)
    I'd like to visit South Carolina. I hear that Charleston's greatest "dandy", Mr S. Colbert, hails from nearby.
