- Part 2 in our series "Doing it up in Turkey"! Is renovating your home in Turkey easy? In part 1 we discussed what renovation work we planned to do on our recently purchased apartment in Turkey/Turkiye, which is next door to the apartment we live in now and we plan to join them together. In this video we start the work with some help from local builders! Watch the video to see how we get on!

Wonder opportunity to get a bigger property without moving and holding onto your magnificent view! Health to enjoy!
mick amca eline emeğine sağlık bu güzel vlog için kolay gelsin hayırlı işler 👍👍👍👍
Since the buildings in our country are concrete, renovation works take a long time, but I think we are the only manufacturer in terms of electricity, water works and tiles. I am looking forward to the completion of the rest of the works and the final state of the house.🏘kolay gelsin 🥰
Out tomorrow
Mick amca elinize saglık DIY serisinin devamını bekliyoruz :)

Micheal you cleaver Man, not becaus of the building work, but you don't have to buy Truddels a xmas present as she now has a sliding door to keep her occupied, naother great Vid god bless you both, looking farward to building progress.
Coming on a treat very nice
For 20 years ago we bought a house on Lesbos just outside Ayvalik. We made a total renovation, and I can see that builders work in a similar way on both sides of the narrow strait.
And I love your big, new terrace with the beautifully swooching double door.
The new big window gives the room a totally different quality with the beautiful view.
I LIKE AVYALIK HISTORICAL CITY
Wow its coming along nicely, you'll soon have the beautiful home you hoped for and deserve. Xx
Güle güle kullanın ve oturun Mick amca ve Trudie Teyze
You are such a gem, we love both of you!🥰🥰
Love the fraudulent slip.. "unfortunately going back to the UK"... Yes, Fethiye is a wonderful place, I went theie. And started to learn Turkish, turkce ogreniyoyrum. From your 2 min lessons, a good while ago, I wish I had had the courage to jump ship leave the UK, and head back to Turkiye. But I have an Irish passport, so easier for me to go to Spain, looking at Barca or andalucier area, love the house!!!!... I stayed in one tiny loft in Fethiye old port area. Than had a balcony that made me lose my breath every morning is was so beautiful... Thx again, looking fwd to part 3!!!
I just discovered you today and I am amazed by your Turkish … I am sure you explained how you did it, in one of your videos … as I am planning to watch all your videos , I’ll know at one point … congratulations … (by the way, I am Turkish and French)

Dear Mick and Trudie; Construction is something I don't understand at all. But I watched it with great pleasure, perhaps because it was a job accomplished and completed by the people I love.
evinizi tadırat yaptırıyonuz allahım kolaylık versin bitmiş halınıde gosterırsınız eviniz büyük güzel sağlıkla hayirli güzel günlerde oturun edirneden sevgıler😀😀😀
Lovely house Congratulations
Wow! that’s some job you have taken on. It’s all coming on fantastically. When we lived in Dalyan it always absolutely AMAZED me the efforts workman went to to get things up on to our roof terraces.
Looking forward to seeing the next episode. Have a good time back in the U.K.
🏴🏴🏴
Good stuff !
Well done Trudie, you managed to getting your beautiful mirror!

Mick amca elinize sağlık çok güzel olmuş güzel günlerde oturun
MICK AMCA YOU ARE DOING AN AWESOME JOB🤣🤣
Mick amca ve Trudie teyzeye turizm bakanlığı sponsor olmalı
Oh, renovation and construction are definitely a cup of tea for Turkish people. Look at those modern mansions which we get to see on Turkish series.
I didn't know safety rules at construction site aren't much observed in Turkey. All the best
Dear Trudie and Mick, I did night school architecture in 1978, 1979 and 1980, so yes I know something about building or renovating. All the best from Belgi 🙂
Looking forward to part 3 ..
inşaat ustaları ile uğraşmak, onlara iş yaptırmaya çalışmak tam bir işkencedir.allah kolaylık versin size.
I had to laugh when the builder called you uncle Mick. I lived In Thailand a man of you age would often be referred to as Ruam.. which means Uncle. Eg Ruam Mick. Similar building techniques in many ways, though I didn’t see any Turkish builders wearing flip-flops, which are the Thai builders footwear of choice. Thais also use plastic pipes but they join them with solvent ..I’ve never seen a joint leak but the pipes deteriorate if used outside and are exposed to sun. I always miss Turkey when I see your videos, we went to Fetiye last year on your recommendation and loved it..
Güzel proje . Hayırlı uğurlu oturun , biz takipçiler çay içmeye geliriz Balkonda 🤪
Thanks for sharing your experience
DAMNN İT NEEDS ALOTTA WORK MİCK..
Would love to see a video on a Black Sea Region town! I prefer cold to the heat 🙃
We were due to go to the Black Sea region in August but unfortunately we need to be in the UK for family at the moment🙈🤠
Thank you for this video Mick amca !
Beautiful work!
Hayırlı olsun Mick amca, güle güle kullanın...
Hi guys. As a builder here in Sydney, Australia I’ve seen so many things done there as foreign to how it’s done here. Especially passing up aluminium and glass and balancing off a balcony edge all the while hitting everyone’s property on the way up 😁 But amazingly enough it works for them hehehe
I would have hired the crane again lol
I’ve never see that plumbing system before, we have the original copper and the newer plastic system which is crimped onto brass pieces, but I have heard in Italy they use a melting plastic which they give 80 years warranty to apparently, I’m wondering if this is the same system? Looks so simple and easy, wish we had it also!
Also Plasterboard with insulation already stuck on is something we don’t have here either, or how you applied it separately doesn’t exist.
Here we have cavity walls so the inner cavity has the fiber insulation then whatever lining you choose. Love seeing the different concepts, it will all work in the end obviously.
One question I have though… what about waterproofing of the balcony and inside wet areas??? I didn’t see that, is waterproofing applied before the tiles are laid because otherwise you’ll definitely have moisture coming through everywhere with mould later on plus neighbours downstairs won’t be happy hehehe
When I saw you talking about then workers not wearing ear muffs, goggles and masks I understood why… those guys have no idea what they’re in for in their future lives… especially silicosis of the lungs, it’s a huge problem here in the western countries now with some of the most aggressive cancers.
Hope they invest soon for their own sake.
It all looks good though, can’t wait to see how you progress. Waiting for the next episode.
All the best!!!
Lovely comment Ricardo as for the insulation, in the UK we also use cavity wall insulation of course and have done for over 100 years, but here in Turkey they only use a single brick so insulation has to be on the outside or the inside some new builds are cavity insulated but it’s still quite rare in Turkey, the piping system in the UK is similar to yours we use some soldered copper but mostly push fit plastic piping which is fairly simple but doesn’t have a long guarantee with rubber O-rings! underneath the tiles of the terrace are two coats of insulation paint which is rubberised and quite expensive, I should’ve mentioned it 🤠
@@mickandtrudie Thanks for the reply Mick, when I finally move there I will most probably start a building company and use whatever techniques are lacking there from Australia, single brick construction is good until something fails and water begins to enter.
I was in Turkey in January for 6 weeks and stayed at Fethiye for 5 days, I should have said hello but I didn’t want to bother…
Ah so you did waterproof hehehe I thought you would have, excellent!
Yeah I was getting worried about Turkeys construction regulations there a little hahaha
Anyway, it’s looking great so far from what I saw, I’m sure they know what they’re doing, I know what to expect from builders there because I’ve been in Italy many times, they don’t use the tools we do to make life easier and faster demolition and build etc, but it works for them and that’s what counts in the end, just a lot more manual labour that’s all.
As you said the big construction companies would be better equipped for sure!
All the best to you both and looking forward to the next video! 😉👋
There is also a high risk of tinnitus if they do not wear their ear muffs. It can sneak up on them and once they notice it, it will be too late. The misery caused by tinnitus is not to be underestimated.
let me be the first to give u a big fat thumb up for the video. see u in fethiye on or about 9/7/22.
01:42 I like how you point out every detail in your video, like "moloz"
I congratulate you, there has been a video telling about a great renovation work, we are waiting for the continuation.
All the best for you guys. I can’t wait to see the house after finish. Thank you for one amazing video.
love u mick amca, the renovation go on nice👍
Yeni eviniz hayırlı olsun
Can't Wait To See The End Result 👀❤️Well Done Both 👏 👏
To all the people who feel the importance of the correct spelling of the countries name:
Turkey is no longer called 'Turkey' but 'Türkiye' by the United Nations. The UN received a letter from Turkish Foreign Minister Cavusoglu on Wednesday, formally requesting that the name be changed. UN Secretary-General Guterres decided to comply with the request with immediate effect as of 1st of juni 2022.
Please reconnize the amazing content Mick and Trudie give us about the beautifull country and the pro and cons of living there, trying their best not to bring politics in the mix.
As for you two, thank you for sharing your lives in such a beautifull and informative way.
Interesting point about the Turkish name, I feel I need to make a film about it 🤠 what I don’t understand is we say Turkey in the English language in the Turkish language they say Türkiye ! Likewise in the English language we say England but in the Turkish language they say İngiltere, so if we say Türkiye in English shouldn’t the Turks say England in the Turkish language because that would be the same wouldn’t it? 🤔
@@mickandtrudie what people should or should not do is irrelevant in this matter...
Thing is, the Turkish goverment found it an important issue to adress, since the word turkey has different other meanings, of wich some in this troubled world might feel offended by.
I myself am from Nederland. You might know it as the Netherlands or even Holland. (Eventhough Holland is a small city in the United States of America).
All different languages, have different names for the country i live in. ( please note i do not say my country, since the people who founded it are long dead, and i am just happen to live here)... we do not feel offended by those translations since: 1 we do not care how you call us, we are all on the same planet and we like to welcome all to visit us to spent your tourist/investment money here. And 2. It has no different meaning other then a translation of our countries name.
To make a video about the name change (however very informitive), might prove to be less positive for your channel, since these days, people seem to get offended rather quickly... and your efforts to leave politics out of your channel as much as possible, might be corrupted.
Eventhough I am convinced that you would make content with the most respect of all people, you will find some being offended, wich might set a chainreaction, that could hurt your channel ( and therefor our favorite channel about the country you love to live in).
I do wich you well and a lot more topics to make and share content about.💯
Evinizde sağlıkla, mutlulukla, güle güle oturun. Evin tadilattan sonraki halini çok merak ettim.😊 İşlerinizde kolaylıklar diliyorum.🙏

Great to see an update Mick, keep them coming! I was a bit concerned seeing the lack of safety equipment but as you say that's just how they do it. Personally I think a warmer colour (than green) would look nicer as the exterior paint haha
Trudie decides the colours not me😂🤠
İyi başarabilmişsiniz.Güzel bir sonuç olacağını düşünüyorum.Bu tür videoları seviyorum.
Its going to look amazing when it's finished. It reminded me of when I had my solar panel changed last month, my heart was on my mouth with the guy crawling up the roof like spiderman. 🤣 Looking forward to the next episode.

Lovely keep up the good work you really have done well such an inspiration for other families and young couples, thanks for uploading 🙏
Wow lovely house . Can’t wait for next video and see the house
This was so much fun to watch. The security for the workers absolutely clearly non existent. Adding the tivoli music on top it became quite funny. 😂 It is iyi you support the local community. Cok, iyi. We are counting days till our next turkey trip now. I worked there in 94.Pamukkale reper. I have been back of course, many times. But a new life and a new man wich have not been to turkey means a new trip is manditory. :) Since we have had a shitty summer here in Norway I decided it was time to find something to do instead of sulking. My turkish have gone really bad over the years, so I decided to sign up for turkish classes. I am having so much fun. My partner thinks I have lost my marbles. 😅 Now my ears are more tuned into turkish I understand more. I used to understand a word here and there, now I see it have become better.
It is very interesting to see how buildings are tecnically made up in turkey. I remember in the nineties the tile and roof work looked horrible. To much grout or sement. I know it is a lot nicer now. No insulation in the roof. Good golly! Either to cold or too hot. Good that is getting sorted. You renovation will be absolytely fantastic. I laughed at the two stamp remark. When living in spaing I had six stamps. Pretty good. :)
Very nice vlog. Looking forward to seeing more.
Pst you view. OMG! Gorgeous!
😊 güzel
Heroic effort! Congratulations!
Can’t wait to see the finished venture , it’s beginning to look amazing.
Very nice job guys! Like to see the different building practices sure change from here in the US. Wife and I are remodeling a flat in Istanbul starting after new year going to be experiencing the same. Keep up the great work it pay off soon!
Your channel keeps us in touch with Turkey thank you for that.

Yes but with the exchange rate they’re still reasonable 🤠
Love watching your video mick great information for us all look forward to watching your renovation on apartment looks lovely
The prices in Turkey have gone up, but with the way everything has also gone up in the UK, it still makes Turkey cheaper especially against the current exchange rate 🙋♀️
