Amazing! Your courage to leave your country and to undertake the renovation of an abandoned house, the amount of money, energy and determination are all amazing. Enjoy every second in your home.
I can not describe how rewarding it feels to go through this kind of adventure. I hope you enjoyed the process. I have spent over 40 years doing similar work. It makes me so happy to see a novice do so well. Hope to see you there as my son and I go looking for a home for him.
I'd love to do this but the logistics seem daunting: where do you dump all your debris? Where do you find power tools and plaster and tiles? Who makes the custom doors? How do you find all these things in the new country where (I assume) you don't speak the language?
Great job! We were remodeling a house and every time we were hauling some piece of it out to the trash a neighbor would say "and that's why you bought this house, because you loved it so much."
Hahaha, love that Well, I think that people who have not remodelled an old property have very little understanding for that no matter how much you love something, it's not worth keeping if it's in too bad condition. We would have loved to keep both the terracotta floors and the green terrazzo, but then we would have to live in a house without heating or electricity (since they put the tubes for all of that under the floor) and the outer wall would risk separating from the rest of the house and fall down on the neighbour. We also learnt along the way that it's so hard to judge the real state of things at the viewing. We absolutely overestimated the condition of the floors and plaster for example. Oh well, lesson learnt the hard way haha
@@OurItalianDreamHouse Well if it were in great condition it probably would have been out of your price range is how I look at it. My husband and I have something we always say to each other when working "take out anything that isn't a nice house." We also repeat our neighbors words and laugh! We have remodeled eight houses in our 49 year old marriage, still doing one now in our 70's, it gets in your blood.
I just fell in love with the bathroom tiles, it's amazing how beautiful it looks. Great transformation in such a big project, you guys have done really beautiful work.👍❤
I'm EXHAUSTED after watching that!!! 😉 You guys have done an AMAZING job! Looking back, I bet you can't believe all the progress and change...it looks fantastic! Kudos and bravissimo! 💕
haha thanks Carolyn, a lot happened in a year! Some days it feels like we are standing still and not making any progress, but looking back at this really puts everything into perspective and reminds us how far we've come 😊
Thanks so much for the lovely comment and support! It definitely takes a lot of time and work to bring these rundown Italian farmhouses back to their former glory 😅
Hi Emily and Edward, we have now watched almost all of your videos and you guys are so great. Really inspiring to watch this series! Thanks a lot for sharing your renovation progress.
Hi there, thanks so much for watching our videos, we’re glad you’re enjoying them and we really appreciate you taking the time to write a comment to us 😁
So jelli. Your place is going to be a show piece when completed. So glad you saved the original cement/ceramic tiles for a future project. I also see you have made a start on the rental accommodation build - glad you got the additional resources to get started on that.
THANK YOU Alison. That's so kind of you. Well, we actually don't have the time and energy to clean them up and reuse them but our window maker happily adopted them so we were super happy they found a new home. So are we. We still cant afford to decorate or furnish it but at least it will be structurally safe 😅
WOW, what a big job that was for both of you, the amazing transformation that was. Was wondering why such dark walls? It makes the space smaller when there are dark walls. Keep up the wonderful work and happiness for everything to go well into the future. Love, Peace, and Happiness to you both.
Rewatch the part of the video where they are applying the dark paint. You will see that the dark portion of the wall appears to look farther away from you than the older white portion. Dark paint can make a wall visually recede and actually increase the apparent size of the room.
I got to November and said omg! Words fail me with what you have achieved, looking fabulous now though, great vision of what you want your home to look like…. Beautiful ❤
I'm following you from the first video in this beautiful adventure in your 'italian life' and you know it. You also know that I'm your n° 1 Italian fan!! Keep it up guyyyyyyysssssss!!
How wonderful to see two people working side by side to achieve their dream. Fantastic work. The grey colour on the walls looks disturbing though but other than that is perfect.
@@OurItalianDreamHouse grey - green is the same devil...awful coulor for interior walls but other than that is brillinat. your hard work is paying off. One day when all is done you will look back with pride.
What a fabulous job. You guys are amazing. I definitely would have made some different design and decor choices, but we are all different, and that’s ok.
W O W!!! What an undertaking!!! It will be wonderful to see it in it’s full glory! And to know that your exceptionally hard work, and that of your friends is paying off!! Magnificent!!!!
I saw those beautiful terrazzo style tiles and I said to me what an exquisite taste they have. But then I saw the ugly gray painted kitchen walls and fronts of the cabinets and I lost hope. But still a big like for bringing back to life this old house.
Thanks! We had hoped to keep all the tiles too, but unfortunately all the floors needed to be removed for reinforcement works. A shame to loose the traditional tiles, but a necessity in the end.
Good Lord…guys…. What a Teameffort and success…. It’s amazing what you able to do if you put your mind to it…. KUDOS Wishing both of you all the best of spirit and success for a very happy year to come….
That is a HUGE amount of labor investment. I'm wondering...why not keep the beautiful terra cotta tile flooring in that large room...? 🤔 ...Granted, I'm only 6+ minutes into the video...and I see that you did eventually begin salvaging them, rather than smashing. The bones of the farmhouse are incredible. Those ancient bricks! 😍 I was glad to see you finally got a WHEELBARROW! Those enormous terrazzo tiles are gorgeous. The completed onsuite/bathroom: 👍🏻 Love the tiled patio.
Thank you so much! 😊 The reason we remove the terracotta tiles is because the floor under needed reinforcing (eg remove the old sand and loose cement and replace with a proper concrete slab). The tiles had also been painted with several layers so it was impossible to remove them without having several tiles breaking.
So true, we now really understand the hard work that goes into construction and building a home. It’s been a really hard but satisfying process so far. Thanks for watching and for your comment 😊
Great to watch the progress. It must feel soooo rewarding. Hope you'll be finished soon and we can see the final outcome. Upwards and onwards! Nice work.
Thank you! We had two pickups and the first one was 300-something and the second one the muratore had to arrange so we don’t know what he paid unfortunately.
Amazing! Your courage to leave your country and to undertake the renovation of an abandoned house, the amount of money, energy and determination are all amazing. Enjoy every second in your home.
