Yup. I bought two binders of base set and fossil from a garage sale a few years ago for $5 in total. This dude had lots of random stuff. The cards though were in pretty good shape. No Charizards but plenty of good foil cards and even a few 1st editions.

No, if it was a case of a parent selling their kids cards they wouldn’t know the value. It’s unlikely that they would take just the charizard card and randomly put it up for $500. In situations like this, it will mostly just be the parent selling off all the cards in bulk like at a garage sale. To them; all those cards are worthless. They wouldn’t have the insight or care to know that a charizard is worth more than a blastoise or venusaur or whatever, and to put it up for sale individually. If they had that much insight to know charizard is worth more, then they would also have the insight to research the card, and see how it’s worth thousands of dollars. It’s obvious that it was a scam. Their hope/intention is that someone is going to see “1st edition charizard” for only $500, and thinking that they’re getting an amazing deal off a dumb parent who doesn’t know any better. But the truth is that if it was really a dumb parent who doesn’t know any better you could get that card from them for like 5 bucks or 20 bucks.

It's become an absolute joke. To collect anymore is very expensive due to these rediculous listings. Ppl buy everything and resell for way over MSRP. I used to get booster boxes of evolutions for $80. And now they're just so inflated it's unbelievable. Set is still being printed, it is not a rare set at all.... Just over hyoeed like everything else anymore. It's really sad.

You see this is exactly the reason why I no longer focus on trying to get anything base set because recently a lot of the base set cards are ending up to becoming fakes and a lot of people are duplicating these cards and that's why the price is slowly declining for the Charizards as you see on the marketplace. Unfortunately, anything from the older sets are going to be hard to acquire because those cards are easily able to be CT scanned versus the new packs that are coming out. There's a reason why the Pokemon website doesn't sell anything of the older sets only from sword and shield and up, because clearly the older sets are expensive to buy and there aren't a lot of authentic cards out there
