I didn't think anyone could top the Cowabunga Collection. I thought that would be the gold standard going forward. And the Atari Anniversary collection dethroned it in just a few months!
I picked this one up and, unfortunately, many of the games require a spinner or trackball to properly play and enjoy. Sure, you can use a D-pad or stick but it’s a poor substitute.
I was going to agree with you but after messing with the controls, I have to conclude, they did a great job. You know what I am thinking about doing? A lot of the games of have the touch screen feature on the Switch. ( Not good except for Pong Two Player and "Touch Me".) You know what I think it needs? A stylus! I might pick one up. Although I am getting REALLY good at "Breakout" with the control stick. Oddly enough, it's "Tempest" that feels a little off to me. So here is what I am thinking. Stylus in right hand...removing the Joy-Cons...right Joy-Con in left hand for firing weapsons. I did it with just my fingers and it felt spot on.
Now I'm reaching back here.. and I could technically fire it up and check.. but I'm pretty sure Club Drive is running a much higher frame rate than an actual Jaguar on this collection :P
Really hoping this releases at midnight ET for the switch. But it’s probably gonna be in the afternoon like most games. I’m a night worker so I like when games release at midnight.
The burning question is whether this compilation is worth it for someone who already has Atari Flashback Classics/Atari Vault. Are the Jaguar, Lynx, 800 and 7800 games worth $40?
The Jaguar, Lynx and 7800 have terrible libraries. (The 7800 having a WORSE sound chip than the 5200!) However, that one gem is Tempest 2000. The rest are just fun in how horrible they are. This really again comes down to the Arcade games. Apparently they are going to have better control schemes. On PC in particular you can use the mouse and VCS paddle controller. I think it will be a hard choice for Flashback owners. The main draw will probably be the historical documents and history.
Definitely worth it, it has a larger list of games including those from the Jaguar era and has better emulation than Flashback which was done by the infamous AtGames.
@Yurt Dweller The Jaguar has excellent games? No it does not. It has a couple decent games. If it has great games it would not have failed. The SEGA CD is also terrible games library. You take Sonic CD and the better version of Ecco the Dolphin out of it and you have nothing. (All SEGA CD games you can think of mentioning have been made better on other systems, had better arcade versions, or simply were mediocre.)
I decided to buy this today while it was on sale on the Nintendo e-shop. I think it has some things I will want to play but I did not want to regret missing the sale price and paying full.
And this ladies and gentlemen is why we had the video game crash!!!!! Every single game in the collection sucks!!!! The name Atari to me means incompetent, lack of quality and failure. Nice video as always contranetwork thanks for saving me 50 bucks
Only in the USA. The rest of the world never had it and the rest of the world doesn't hold the NES up to the sky like some kind of god like grown men over 40 from USA does. Atari 2600 put out some great games for the time. Missle Command was a darn good port. Atari wasn't just to blame for the crash. Intellevision, Coleco and others went too crazy all at once. Overseas Sega, PC Engine, Amiga and such did just fine if not better than Nintendo did in certain areas as well. Atari helped kick start it all. That alone gets my recognition as if it wasn't for them who knows where gaming would be or would have went. Gaming could very well have been something that died out within a few years or still in the arcades. Activision (the real Activision from then) also did some great games for the 2600. Not everyone wants to get fat and play RPGs for 400 hours of your life like modern gaming. Some people just want to play for 10 minutes and use the rest of their time for the gym, going out, and having a good time. I rather play a 10 min arcade game then sink 1000 hours into Zelda Breath of the wild or some MMO.
@@danieldiggs9574 no grown man is over 40 is going to hold the nes over their head like some kind of God? I never knocked Nintendo all I said was the facts that the rest of the world never suffered the videogame crash like the USA did and yes the NES was and still is so loved like a god to many for saving the industry when in reality it just saved the USA because other countries were not so into the NES as crazy. I was an NES kid so I get it. Just because my opinion that today my time doesn't allow me to play as much as I used to so I enjoy the Atari arcade style games more is how I feel. I wrote back to you like an asshole previously because you actually got me pissed but now I realize probably a mis communication. Anyways be well. I don't hate the NES but truth is I get bored trying to play and beat long platformers these days when I can get a fix for 10 minutes. The homebrew Atari scene does a nice job for me. Thanks for the video! You just saved me $40. Man, Atari always has been bad. I remember playing the 2600 as a kid and thinking, "this isn't that fun." Colecovision really got me into videogames. Then I got a Master System because I thought the NES wasn't much better than Colecovision.

I am really digging this retro compilation so far. A super fun and interaction throwback to one of gaming's pioneers!
Thank you!!!!! You’re the only one that shows all the games. Excellent!
Atari really should make a deal with Activision so we have DLC with HERO, Montezuma's Revenge, Pitfall, etc.
I would like Chopper Command.
This is gonna look really good on the OLED Switch. I just hope they don't mess up the controls again.
Wow what a fine presentation!
Thanks though for doing this video! I'm gonna check out your videos!
AVGN needs to play this only because of Airworld.
I can’t believe they finished sword quest
