    Have to say that out of all the Behringer 2600 videos I've seen, this one is among the best! The first sound knocked it out of the park for me. LOL Please keep making more!

    Hi, I have a question at 1:55 onwards theres a nice clear shot of the LEDs, have you tried pulling them out? I am wondering if they come out easily?

    • @tomnoise23
      @tomnoise23  3 года назад

      No I didn’t try. I prefer not to change anything on this unit. The colors don’t bother me anymore, I got used to the look meanwhile.

    • @caballorojo
      @caballorojo 3 года назад +1

      @@tomnoise23 That's understandable. Mine's coming next week so I'll have a try myself and report back. I changed the leds on my Novation midi controller sliders once, and it was as simple as gripping them and pulling them out. They were 4mm length 1.5mm x 3mm width at the top. Rectangular. These look the same on the 2600. Could be a cheap and easy solution to those who don't like christmas. Anyway. I'll try it on my unit when it gets here. Thanks for your reply.

      @@caballorojo just wondering, wouldn’t you lose the warranty for the 2600?

    • @caballorojo
      @caballorojo 3 года назад +1

      @@tomnoise23 At a push, if something went wrong with it and I needed to use the warranty, I could put the original leds back in. Although I don't have any faith in Behringer's warranty. My Deepmind 12D turned up with 2 right hand rack ears. Long story short, they would'nt just send me a replacement. Said I had to return the whole thing to the retailer, which I wasn't going to do for the sake of a piece of metal, an accessory. So having a warranty and having the manufacturer take responsibility for said warranty are 2 different worlds I guess.

    Great Demo Tracks from you. Do you try to play the 2600 with normal midi connection. I try it today and I can not play from midi keyboard out to 2600 midi in. It's not possible to play the 2600 useful. Thank you

      Thanks John. Both the usb and the normal 5pin Midi connector on the 2600 work for me. Did you check the little dip switches on the back if they are set to the same midi channel as your keyboard?

      @@tomnoise23 Hi Tom,
      Thanks for your reply. Yes. Midi channels are the same. With this setup I work since a long time. Sometime I hear a trigger note when I touch the keyboard but it's not possible to play normal. I have also problems to play or to patch a short envelope time. I try several patches and it won't works. But on the other side my feeling says the synth works correct. Strange

    • @tomnoise23

      Thanks for the nice comment! For the last example and the drum beat in between, the 2600 is playing itself by using the Sample&Hold internal clock. For the others, i have used Logic and sent midi notes via USB. I am also using the Korg SQ1 (which is great, because it can also serve as a double USB/CV Gate interface) and the Arturia Keystep. For the sound, my opinion is that it's really good, but it doesn't sound exactly like a vintage arp, though (spring reverb aside) it can sound pretty close. In the comments on Ralph Bamgartl's comparison of his ARP 2600 and the Behringer 2600, a guy commenting under 'AMSynth' claims he was one of the developers of the Behringer 2600 and tried to get as close to the ARP Blue Marvin 2600 version more so than the others. This might be why it doesn't sound just like the model you have. It was my understanding that the Blue Marvin sounded better but the components were faulty and they had to change/use different parts. There are a few RUclips videos of the Blue Marvin in action after being repaired.

    • @tomnoise23
      @tomnoise23  3 года назад +3

      @@UniQueWerkx Yes, i have followed these discussions. To be honest, personally i don't care too much if it has the exact same sound. I don't see much use in doing comparisons over and over again. The ARP is a sound chameleon anyway, as it is so flexible and same goes for the Behringer one. As long as i can make the same types of sounds like i can do with an ARP 2600 and it sounds good, then i'll be happy. The spring reverb of the original isn't there, of course, but for pretty much every other type of sound you can get very similar results. And i love this new, smaller format and all the additions as it is much easier to use and adds even more versatility. I mean, it's just not a vintage ARP with all the history and vibe (and the flaws of a 40 year old synth) that such an instrument has. It's new.

    It's a pretty, pretty little synth, but the Marvin and the Meanie look cool, as well! Mine arrives next month! They've been back-ordered. Why would I pay $9000 for the Korg 2600 when Berhringer makes one for $599 that sounds just as fantastic and does the same things?

    • @islandpalm148
      @islandpalm148 3 года назад +2

      I have 2 Odysseys. Near as I can tell, the Odyssey can do all this. Has keys, has 24-step sequencer, has built-in effects. I've thought about getting the 2600 for visual reasons. You can mount it behind an Odyssey, and it looks like one mother of a large lit up synth. I assume the Odyssey can control the 2600?

    • @Pulse2AM
      @Pulse2AM 3 года назад +1

      @@islandpalm148 I think the 2600 would be too much synth for me, I'm not a tweaker and patching cables doesn't appeal to me just to get one sound. I'll probably go with the Odyssey - they just lowered the price too.

    • @islandpalm148
      @islandpalm148 3 года назад +1

      @@Pulse2AM I also had the original Arp Odyssey, bought in 1973. Wide array of sound possibilities, S&H, ring modulator, the old dial pitch-bend which was great for Pink Floyd helicopters. Performed ELP's Karn Evil 9 1st Impression and Tarkus with one Odyssey and one Hammond Porta B. The Odyssey got me thru all the necessaries on Karn Evil, including synth lead, S&H mid section on the Ab note, the bass lines while the bass player moved to guitar, the final portamento up swoop to high Ab. Easy to change patches while playing. No cables to pull.
      So guess what the new Odyssey does just fine? The 24-note, slightly ring modulated, accelerating computer sequence at the end of Karn Evil 3rd Impression. Yep, retirement should be fun, even though I can't afford it. BTW, the Odyssey does Kraut rock-Tangerine Dream sequences with echo perfectly also. You will do your own musical thing, I'm sure I'm a few decades on you.
      Still, a 2600 angled up behind the Odyssey would sure LOOK cool, even for visual reasons only. Stick some cables in it and look like a super bad & smart SOB for the 21st century, like Emerson was the bad ass in the 20th with the Moog modular.

    • @Pulse2AM
      @Pulse2AM 3 года назад

      @@islandpalm148 Oh wow, you must be a real good player! I'm a singer song writer/producer mainly electronic music from current EDM to Depeche Mode styles. I play a tiny bit of piano, guitar is my main instrument besides the rest I mentioned. I work super fast so having to spend a half hour on a patch doesn't fit my work flow. That's actually why I haven't bought the Odyssey yet.
