Thank you for this amazing primer! I just bought a used one and something didn't feel right. Turns out the settings were for a completely different use case. The former owner did vinyl cutting and the like, in my case it will be cardstock and plastic of similar thickness.
Are you a Stampin Up Demonstrator ? I bought a used CM650 W & am glad to have found your instructions for measuring the blade to the paper! Excellent! I am a new SU Demonstrator & have a friend who also is & she has been using hers instead of buying so many dies, so I’m excited to save $ that way. I saw a chart somewhere for the blade depth & pressure somewhere, but forgot to save it.
Glad you are enjoying youre machine, I think I have what you are looking for on my website. Go to applelover53.co.uk, select the "shop scanncut" tab and under that you should see help & information, scroll through you should find the cutting guide for the cm machines
I just got a used machine and it cuts through heavy cardstock at a very low pressure and a lower blade depth....it cuts perfectly but at very very low settings..thanks to you I have not cut through a mat yet. Thanks again for a great video and great advice.
I’ve struck the triangles I have cut out on blade depth tests into a note book, saying what paper/card type it is and the corresponding blade depth and pressure. It saves so much time as I only do the test once.
Hi Ashley thank you for this and I am learning new things. I have no idea how I have managed to cut things out. The problem I'm having is that it cuts the left side of the circle but not the right side. What's gone wrong please? P.S. OOPPPPSSSS just changed the blade and it is now cutting with blade at 6 and 0 pressure. 1st lesson learned and stored in my memory somewhere. There is plenty of space for it. Hugs xxx
Thank you very much Ashley. Suzy now has a trolley all of her own and I am able to bring her to me whenever I want to use her. I am going through your San n Cut tutorials and saving the ones I have managed to complete. Thank you now to pic the next lesson. Have a safe and crafty day. Hugs and Loves xx
Hi. I've got the cm300 and having a nightmare trying different blade depths and pressures. I've been trying to cut 250gsm. Pressure on 1 and blade is on 5!
unfortunately with the CM model machines it is trial and error until you get to know what blade depth and pressure for what type of media you use. i would try cut pressure 2 and measure the blade depth against the depth of your card and use that as a starting point and use test cut so only cutting small shapes until you feel you have got it right, less card waste doing it with the test cut facility shapes
My CM900 does that sometimes, but my CM600 never did it at all. you can put some of the white plumbers tape around the thread of the housing and then screw the housing back into place that may stop it moving, I saw that tip online. Thank you
I bought the sdx225 it has the auto blade.. went through doing the the project it comes with...the cut went right through the mat. That was three weeks ago. They sent me anew mat...but after watching your video, I never checked the blade...if it broke. I have not touched it since. I feel so intimidated by this machine. Was excited to start using it. I watch all your videos, hope I get enough nerve to try it again. A lot of money to just sit there. Can the auto blade be checked the same way?
Hi with the auto blade technology it shouldn't cut through your mat, did you ask Brother why that would happen? Go into your setting (the wrench icon) and see what cut pressure you have, the default setting should be a number in a black box
Thank you for replying. Yes that is why I bought it...because it was an auto cut. I’m 70 and wanted something easy to use. I’m afraid to cut anything else. I followed the directions to a tee.
Hi, i have so much diffeculty to cutout detailled patterns ((i use the sm900 as you have here).. i tried deep and standart cut knife, and best quality paper, and has to workt with both. i tried with new mats.. new knife... tried differen cut pressure.. The knife push the paper to crumble.. or tear the pattern. Also when svg made the outside lines first.. it push out the paper while it would place the score lines in it... I tried even to tape the paper down as extra hold for the paper, pause while cutting after the outline.. tape it down.. en cut furter...No good results. What is wrong, What do i do wrong, why does the machine no detaille or inside cuttings after the outline cutting witout leaving the paper on the mat... I tried the stickiest mat and the lowest.. both same problem.. I even start testing with cutting pressure from -9 and up..... i could not find the solution.. Maybee you have tips i can try.. to get this job done with better results... You are my last hope to get the machine to do the job.. I don't know what to try more.... HELp!!!
Hi, sorry i don't know without seeing your machine the design and the media you are trying to cut. The main thing i would say is it depends on how small you are trying to cut, it may be your design is too small or too intricate. Or your blade may be damaged look at the tip under a magnifying glass to see if its broken. For your machine i would put the cut pressure on the default setting and set your blade to just a little as i show in this video from 2019 ruclips.net/video/U7ohpJV4H0Q/видео.html
Hi I know thats happened on some of the CM model blades, the only lock is the catch you push down to lock the blade holder in the housing. what some people have done is use plumbers (PTFE) tape which is a thin white tape and wrapped it around the thread of the blade holder before screwing the blade end in place. i hope that makes sense
Thank you for an easy to follow guide on blade and pressure settings. I had to trawl through so many before coming across yours.
Thank you for this amazing primer!

Awesome, thank you for doing the explanation of a test cut, pressure and blade setting, with different card
Thanks again always useful, yes different blade housings are different- when you are satisfied, just make a small note for each type of card.
Derek
Thanks for the great tips, I have always been confused with what settings I should use. Testing against the edge of the paper is a great tip.
Thank you

Thanks so much this tip really helped me, my paper was dragging and changing the blade depth sorted it out. Crafty hugs from Ireland
Great glad to be able to help

Good idea thank you for sharing the info with us
Thanks for recapping the process. Val 🇨🇦🇬🇧❤️
Thank you, such a great teacher, I have cut a few mats and patch them up after they still work
Just found your video. Thank you so much for your awesome help, it worked first time for me 👍
Glad it helped
Thank you so much for all that you have learned me for the last couple of years 👍 I do appreciate that you take the time to show us tips & tricks ❤
You are welcome thank you
Very helpful video. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you so much for the help! You really made it simple to understand .
Thank you

Glad you’ve worked it out, you could try less blade depth and more cut pressure as an alternative

hi, i have a brother cm300 scan n cut, what blade settings etc should i use to cut easysubli,
Sorry i dont know, you would need to use the test cut facility in your machine to work out blade depth and cut pressure
Thank you so much for this very useful information. 😊x
Really helpful, thank you.
Great video about cutting card/paper, my blade when cutting changes from 5 to 3 how do I stop this happening, thanks 🙏🏼

@@applelover53 thanks for the quick tip on how to stop the thread moving x
Great

My blade seems to jiggle off the setting while cutting. Is there a lock button?

applelover53 ok ty. Sometimes the setting slips away. I set it to 4.5 and after some cuts it’s on 4. Advice?
Yes If you follow the information I posted for you the other day, that should help or contact Brother and see if they can help you
Thank you 😊
