- Please do go thru the previous video on Propeller at • What is wet Push up of... before you proceed with this one.
This Video builds up on the learnings of the previous videos on Steering Gear.
In this video you will learn about the Pilgrim Nut.THe video with animations will describe the method to remove and refit a propellr with the aid of the Pilgrim Nut. This question is quite importanyt from Exams point of view
Pilgrim is a name brand is of a slecific design. Generally, Pilgrim nuts were developed for use with keyless propellers. The taper for keyed and keyless propellers vary, so pushup distances vary.
As part of the Pilgrim design, a cast iron sleeve was recommended. The sleeve was secured in the propeller boss using epoxy. The sleeve has oil grooves machined into it that are designed for releasing the propeller from the taper. Ships I was involved with did not rely on the Pilgrim nut to pull the propeller off the taper.
Another feature of Pilgrim nuts is the recommendation that acme threads be used because of the loads on the threads when using the nut to pushup the propeller.
It should also be noted that Pilgrim nuts can be used to secure rudder stocks to the steering gear and to the rudder. They are also used for securing rudder pintles.
Thanks ..Agree..Had to make this vidoe because our youngsters are STILL studying this method for exams Ha Ha..
Thank you sir, lots of respect for all your efforts in helping and guiding us. 🙏
thank you for explaining it so clearly
U r really helpfull in all the topics sir , tq for your dedication for teaching and guiding us .
The way you summarize each topic is excellent sir. Kindly continue the good work
Dear Sir,
I was never able to understand this topic while in college but today got a very clear picture of wet push as well as pilgrim nut .
Thank you for your efforts.
Well explained! Clearly illustrated! Chief, you deserve a medal of honour! Thank you
Glad you liked it!
Sir thank you for your efforts to teach everything very well.
Thank u sir nice understanding video
Finally understand after see your explanation thanks a lot bada sab
AMAZING
Took a while for that drawing to make sense but I get it now. Thank you.
Very informative videos sir..for those of us who r preparing for exams.allways looking for your new uploads which is very well clearly explained.
Thank you very much, sir
Very good lessons and too much help full for us
THANKS SIR,Well explained! Clearly illustrated
Very informative video sir thank you
Awesome Video Sir. So nicely you explained ❤️ Please make a video on Starting and Reversing of both MAN and SULZER.
Thanks, Maybe in future
Well and clearly explained sir. Thank you so much
Thank you sir.
Thank you
thanks a lot for sharing this topic for our better understanding sir. Regards
Sir please make video on maneuvering everything about maneuvering
Thanks sir🙏🙏
Sure I will
It’s better if you start with online learning platform with such legendary content
wonder ..how many guys actaully pay money 😂
Really nice video sir....u are superb
Awesome video sir.Love it.
Great job
Very helpful, thank you sir!
Very helpful sir
Do more videos sir
Excellent
Thankuu sirji🎉🎉
Nice video sir..
thanks for the video sir.
Thanks a lot sir!!
Please create videos on topics like reversing, maneuvering etc
sir please make a video on the propeller shaft and stern tube assembly.
SUre.. will do
@@rmetcvideos Yes sir please...
why is 1st blade of propeller and the main engine no. 1 unit is kept in tdc position, after re fitting the propeller on the tail shaft during dry dock.
I find your videos very helpful for exams sir and i regularly go through them. Regarding SKF and Pilgrim nut method sir I wanted to know if they are used only for keyless propeller or keyed propeller as well. Secondly sir before fitting the propeller we have to ascertain that we have 75 to 80 percent contact between propeller boss and tail end shaft. Can you explain the processes how it is done sir.
Key or Keyless does not matter and YES the 75~80 % is True but not needed to be done during a routin e removal Refit' It is done only after repairs aor damage etc which might have affected the taper.
Why grease is used for removal and not hydraulic oil while removal process?
Very nice video sir
Dear Sir
Can you please make a small video on Thrust bearing clearance and thrust pad removal procedure.
sure ...interesting topic
Thank you sir. My question I heard you say pushing grease in the inbuilt jack of the pilgrim nut. In other jacks we use hydraulic fluid. Is it special kind of jack?
😀.I am sure it must have been special...These are we all legacy components which are obselte and I uploaded it bcoz..here in India ...it is still a part of ORALS and syllabus for Class 2 and marine engineering...The book says Grease and I have never seen in my life😁
Here you didn't mentioned the dial gauge to be mounted on tail shaft and reference marking to cross check with dial gauge readings
❤
Plz make video on Jack up test,to check bearing loading.
need to check.. If I get good material will do. Thanks
What is withdraw plate either it is loading ring or other plate
Could you possible to advise, how many methods are used for force fitting of propeller other than this pilgrim nut method?
Pilgrim nut is very old and probably history. But many vessels have the Propeller Nut which is itself a hydraul;ic tool like the Cylinder head nuts..Other methods are to push the propeller with Jacks which are external..Yard supply Jacks...
sir how much push up pressure we have to apply while fitting turbocharger by this method? Is that pressure mentioned in manual?
You mean--Propeller ??
Guys who want to respond to this cartoon about the question..Does the load of pushing the Shaft while removing the propeller travel to the Trrust bearing...Challenge yourself and comment on the message section in RUclips. HINT -- 10 std Physics ..Ha Ha
We don't need to push the shaft while removing the propeller,we are just removing propeller out of tappered portion of the shaft by using correct pressure told by manufacturerer, I think need not to be worried if at all shaft is experiencing any kind of push ,shaft pushes back...😁,also pilgrim nut's entire journey is through the threaded portion ,no worries...
Newton's third law sir if not pls explain sir
It is simple--Newtons 3rd law is NOT applicable .According to the law action and reaction forces are equal and Opposite BUT ON DIFFERENT Bodies..In this case the shaft is being pushed by the loading ring via the propeller(action Force) but at the same time the same shaft is being PULLED by the NUT via the threads(Reaction Force)
Sir when we r monunting the propeller on the tail shaft one pilgrim nut is enough for pushing the propeller ?
pilgrim nut is always one only.
Sir i need propeller drop content
As i had gone through rudder drop im so much satisfied please make it for your student sir.
OK..Good topic..But I think there may be many on this
sir how we do remove chrome liner from tail shaft? any approved procedure?
Just Pull ..😀..seriously.. fitting has a lot of points to be considered...
Sir who is the guy that enters the ECR for a second and leaves after seeing u? Is it our paanchu?
Deck cadet trying to gossip with Paanchu...Disapears bcoz badasaab is sitting :-) :-)
off-course who else will be? :)
Asking the real questions
What is the type of thread on pilgrim nut
honestly , not sure. But I have seen that it is quite fine
And this is how we produce specialists for the world by watching of videos on internet. Where is the proper explanation supported by explaining of the physics??? Maybe some tutorial with physical exercises… I becoming sick everyday after watching specialists on project born after watching movie shows. For me this is low quality lesson.
Thanks a lot sir..
