- Jeff and Jeff decided to visit the famous Klamath, California attraction known as Trees of Mystery and recount how generations have flocked to this place since the 1930s.
Standing there to welcome them were giant Paul Bunyan and his blue ox Babe. The pair were legends born of logging tales in Canada and states like Minnesota and Wisconsin.

In my 72yrs ,I have passed multiple times, the turnoff for this attraction and always wondered what it was.....Now I know! Thanks Jeff and Sara for another fun and interesting Sunday Field Trip!
Our pleasure! Glad you finally got a glimpse of what’s inside!
Love the stories, you guys are great and very entertaining.
Thanks so much! Nice to hear those words, Terry!
I have drove by this place several times in my life. Now I know what it's all about! Thanks Jeff for your production on this unique roadside attraction.
As kids growing up in Requa, Trees of Mystery is just down the road... My brother and I used to work summers there cleaning up and maintaining the trails. Since my dad knew the owners it was a fun job and learned a lot about the environment there. What Memories...It has changed quite a bit from the early 60s. 😃👍🏻🌲🌲🌲
Only you can prevent forest fires 👉
I really like these attraction place videos. Thank you Sarah n Jeff.
Smokey Bear had a great message didn’t he? Lol.
This brought back fond memories of visiting as a child and bringing my own kids here! Thanks Jeff and Sarah!
So happy that you got to experience this place with your own children! They grow up fast, don’t they?
@jbenziggy yes they do! It reminds me that I am getting older, too!! Lol!!! Brads knee surgery went well. He will be recuperating at home for a few weeks now 🙏
@@dannasilva9079 I missed you guys in church. Tell Brad to get well soon.
Nice adventure Jeff and Sarah! 👍👍👍
We always liked Trees of Mystery. We still have the original paper bumper souvenir that you attached with wires from the early 1960's.😊
That’s so cool, I’d love to see what it looks like! 👍🏽
Jeff would you fulfill my request by visiting the grave of John philip sousa please and you are a sweet kind guy on youtube 🎄🎄
We visited it in the early 1950's. I don't remember much but it certainly wasn't developed like now. We drove away with the same type of bumper sign attached with wires.
Love that location!
Majestic🇺🇲
never heard of this sadly I never got to see the Redwood National Park thanks for the vlog you would not get me on that Gondola for love or money
👍🏽👍🏽
The only good thing about this place is paying 25$ for 1 person to walk thrue trees & wait in line for hours for the gondola/skylift. Takes u up to the top where u walk in circles then come back down. Highly priced & waste of valued doller. I live here so my advice is to drive thrue *Newton B Dury Scenic Parkway literally like 5 miles away from treese of mystry with WAYY BIGGER TREESE
To be honest, we didn't wait in any lines to ride the gondola or even get into the attraction but this was a September visit. We enjoyed the gondola ride and the view. The trees are awe-inspiring too. We didn't know about the Newton parkway.
@jbenziggy Newton B Dury Scrnic Parkway is were starwars was filmed. It's a long scenic drive thrue redwoods & is free! Has a little gift shop at the beginning too along with I think a cabin? Maybe a restaurant
A fun adventure and beautiful scenery. Thank you Jeff and Sarah for taking us along!
I definitely appreciate what you do Jeff. I'm a history nerd 🤓 and every Sunday morning you help feed my brain 🧠.
Thank you.
Wow, thanks! We love your comment, Edward! Bless you!
@@jbenziggy nothing but love and respect from me to you and Sarah. You are one of the very few notifications turned on for me. I truly appreciate the videos and information on what ever you decide to make for us to indulge.
Really enjoyed this adventure. Your story about your daughter was so full of genuine emotion. My wife and I were there 11 years ago and have fond memories of the place.
That was so cool. Thanks to you and Sarah, I have enjoyed seeing a lot of California sights. I was born at Castle AFB, 1952, my brother at Castle, 1954. We saw little of California as my dad was transferred to Nebraska in 1955. There are pictures of us at Yosemite, but I don't remember it.
I enjoy your channel so much, thank you. ❤
I loved this adventure,Jeff. I lived most of my life in California and I'd never heard of this site before. Thanks.
Joyce, if you ever get to drive up Highway 101 someday give it a try. The redwoods are beautiful!
Quite the adventure. So much talent and patience for all the great carvings. Thanx for letting us tag along.
It's great you go back to places you've been with the kids and all the memories you had with them when they were young to make memories with us. Thanks for sharing Jeff and Sarah
Absolutely!!
Unbelievable Jeff! Great vlog! I had never heard of this site but must put it on my ‘to-do’ list! Thank you for always providing great and interesting sites.👏👏
Thank you Jeff and Sarah for taking us along once again. I've never visited this spot so I will have to put it in the back of my mind and check it out someday.
Jeff, I had a bit of this knowledge, but NOWHERE near as much as you shared with us. This was so interesting.🤗 Thank you for taking us there. Your research, and site' visiting is so appreciated, by us. Of course, Sarah's is, too... WOW, it must be something to go back ... the memories. Yep, I think I wouldn't want to dangle up in the air either. Hope you both have a lovely day. 👏🏻💥😁👏🏻
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks, Rhonda! Have a great holiday season!
Another great episode. I have never been but would have loved it as a kid.
I didn't know you had four kids!! Hahahaha!
Sarah was as cute as could be. She seemed to enjoy everything. The only thing missing for her were critters to love on.
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Thank you Jeff and Sarah! Really enjoyed this. I lived in CA for 18 years but never made it up this way.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I always stop to get the free samples of fudge, and they sell Huell DVD'S in the giftshop too
Huell has been there!
Surprisingly this attraction has survived over all these years and still draws tourist. Nice place for people to take family members of different generations.
It’s great for families plus they get exercise!
It’s a combination of going to the coast and the mountains!
0:30 BABE! THE BLUE OX, you LEGEND--we salute the REAL bearer of that Blue Ox Symbol, the 17th Earl of Oxford, Captain Sir Edward 'Shakespeare' De Medici De Vere. 😌😌💖💖
I appreciate the work you put into all of the videos, Jeff.
That’s nice to hear after spending the hours I spend in these! Thank you so much!
What fun! I loved this! I read Paul Bunyan as a youngster in North Dakota in the 50's but that's all about what I remember now!---I was 50 when I fell in love with Nelson Eddy, embarrassing to think I'd have been a member of his fan club while he was alive. I bought his biography, that's as close as I'd come (besides ordering a few CDs & movies!) To be fair, I also bought Jeannette McDonalds biography too.
Kelly, Kris, and I visited there back in 2000 before it had the Sky Trail and the Skywalk. It's such a Beautifull place and the entire area around it. I have zero doubt's that the Big Guy inhabits the area and all of the Boreal forests of the Northern Americas.
Wow!! Those trees are so large and so old!!! An absolutely great video!!
Looks like a fun place!
Thanks Jeff and Sarah 😅😊
Another great place to visit in California, we have to go there and check it out . Up in Oregon on hiway 26 there used to be a Paul Bunyan and Blue Ox at a road side Cafe. Thanks for Sharing 😊
what a neat place! Never heard of it, but now I want to see it!
My Mom's Chevy Nova Station Wagon carried that Bumper Sticker All Through my Teen Years ❤ thank you Jeff for Memory Lane.😊😊
Very cool!
I was Born in Oregon but my Dad moved us 3 kids to San Diego County when i was 6 months old. So you can Imagine how many Times we took our Vacations in that Direction. My Dad took us to the Trees of Mystery just as i Tiok my Children. We Always Enjoyed Stopping to Picnic & Take a Rest. Paul Bunyan & His Big Blue Ox were Always a Favorite. When i was a kid in the early 60's some one was up inside of Paul. He would Talk to you...i think he also waved if i remember correctly...He would say things Like Hay You.. yeah you in those Turquoise shorts. haha
I’ve been by there a number of times but never stopped. I will next time! Thanks Jeff and Sarah!
Thanks! Now you have an idea of what it's like!
When we toured California back in the early 1980's, we passed by this attraction but we were lost and ended up by passing it. At least we got to see it through your eyes.....
Thanks! We hope you enjoyed seeing it, sorta!
What wonderful adventures you two have,thank-you for sharing👍💕👣
Thanks Jeff you brought back memories. Had my wife laughing because I reacted the same way Sarah did when the sky trail stopped! Did not like that feeling. And my favorite is the cross cut of that ancient tree showing the different years and when it stood at that time. Great trip.
Glad you enjoyed it!!!
I was there 1995 going from WA to California for vacation, it was the first day California song by TUPAC was just released to radio stations, and they were playing it 10 times a day
bought a wooden clock from souvenir shop ,I'm looking at now as I type, and still working like a champ❤❤
Was there with my mother, father and brother in 1964 at 5 years old. Again with my wife and two daughters in 2009.
Love all the new stuff! Been nearly 30yrs since I went to the trees. Was at the gift shop 3 yrs ago and have pictures of the whole family next to Paul. Also a picture of my oldest son (7months) and our doxie sitting on the foot. 1995❤
Sarah looks like she had fun!😊
Thanks, love trees, thanks for sharing your adventure!!!!
husband speaking age 80 watching from Cebu on Mon. as we are 16 hours ahead of the West. My first trip down
101 was 1977 when I was first married. Maybe again in 1991 - so much has been added to make the visit more fun.
This was a nice memory.
Well that was different, but as always very good. Well done Jeff & Sarah. I must admit, I did laugh when the cable car stopped to a crawl going up. But Sarah, you have no control when flying either! 🙂 Great work guys, thank you.
I had forgotten about the Trees of Mystery. Went there on a vacation in 1968. Paul and Babe were there. Thanks for the vid!
Every kid should see this place. Old lady remembers well. Thanks
When I was 12 we drove down the coast from British Columbia and my Dad wouldn't stop at the Trees of Mystery because it was a tourist trap. It was the first place I made my husband stop on our road trip down the coast I have been back many times and I finally got my Dad there when he was 80! Great video. Nancy
Thank you☕️
Fun tour! I have stopped there quite a few times but I never took the redwood tour there at the Paul Bunyan stop. I injured my knee so I've kinda been unsure if I could make the hike. I really enjoy your videos :)))
Love trees of mystery! My parents would stop here on the way to family fishing trip at Crescent city in the 70s. So much fun.
Went there in the mid 70's when Babe was on the other side of the gift shop. Somewhere in or family pictures is a shot of my late brother holding up Babe's cajones. Also the Paul Bunyon statue used to greet visitors and wave his right hand.
I am glad you and Sarah got out and had mini vacation. When the tram stopped and Sarah started to freak out, my x girl was like that. I know how Sarah feels.
I really like this video on RUclips 👍
That was a fun video. Jeff, you and Sarrah sure do get around. Thanks for sharing your adventures.
Very interesting ,thank you for the video going to have to make a trip up there to see it ❤❤❤❤❤
Ahhh, Trees of Mystery. I have visited twice. Once, as a pre-teen and then, again in 2000. I now want to go back and to the Sky Tram! Such a beautiful place up there.🌲
It’s fun riding on … until it stops! By the way do you remember Eddie Cummings? He contacted me and said he watches my channel! Nice to hear from old classmates!
@@jbenziggy I'm afraid of tripping and falling over myself, more than falling from a sky tram LOL🤣
Loved your field trip! Always interesting and educational too!
Thanks so much, Jim! His is life? You’re down in Georgia or someplace, right?
@@jbenziggy Tampa Bay, FL
Jeff you would be the perfect history teacher...
Or at least you are to my grandbabies and myself...
I take them to class everytime your in session...
That’s a sweet thing you do for them! You must be a fabulous grandmother!
Took my kids to Trees of Mystery 30+ years ago. When we got out of our car, a strong loud voice came out of Paul Bunyon's mouth and it shocked my kids, Paul welcomed them to the park! They were mystified by it, how could that large statue say anything to them? I loved it!
What great memories with the kids, huh? But you know, we never heard or knew that Paul talked to folks! LOL
Thanks, Jeff
Thanks, Sarah
Nice one. Always great to see the North Coast. In the 60's Paul Bunyon used to talk to people. There was a hidden booth at the gift shop building where a person could see people over by Paul's feet and a speaker hidden in his leg. A friend of mine who lived in Klamath was the voice of Paul during his high school years. Thanks for showing this.
I appreciate the comments you left! I didn't know about Paul speaking from the past! Interesting!
I have great memories of Family trips to the Redwoods. Thank you
Our pleasure! Glad it brought back good memories!
Hello Jeff and Sarah, Thanks for sharing another great story and trip. Happy Sunday 😊
Same to you! Thanks for watching good friend!
Very interesting the trees of mystery in 1957 I was 7 years old I do believe we stopped here super big trees thank you for all your adventures 🏆
Glad you enjoyed it! Hopefully this video brought up some great memories from your childhood!
We may not have the best laws or politicians here in CA or the U.S. but no doubt about it we do have the most beautiful scenery and climate
Amen to everything you said.
I love that picture of Sarah ,at the end of this video . I would love to visit this incredible place . This was another great video 😀😃
Thank you, Pamela! Love your comment!
"911 - What's your emergency?" LOL! I have to remember that when the wife burns the casserole! Nice episode! I have a photo of my late dad being ushered through this as a boy - I have yet to pay my two bits and see the wonders of the Trees of Mystery. Thanks!
I use that phrase a lot, Steve! LOL. Now I need to finish your video on the Pyramid Lake war! I believe Ormsby was involved in that, wasn't he?
He was! @@jbenziggy
Absolutely breathtaking....GOD's country....
Just kidding?!......well, I don't know....Maybe you 1st answer was correct.
Thanks again for sharing Jeff and Sarah
Well, thank you for coming along. We appreciate the visit.
Wow, thx for this! Great job, I loved it. In the 60s, on our way from Eureka to visit relatives in Oregon, our Dad always stopped there so we could see and touch Paul Bunyan and Babe. That’s all there was there then, plus a gift shop and maybe a coffee shop. If we were lucky, a man hidden away would address us on a loudspeaker with a personalized greeting such as “little girl in the pink dress, are you having fun?” Very thrilling! 😂
Loved this! Loved Sarah's adventure on the tram.....wish I had been there....those great trees have always been something I wanted to see......so thanks......I had a book when I was a kid that included Paul Bunyan,,,,,I remember enjoying that book a lot and can remember the chair I would sit in to read it; But, can't remember the details....so, I might just get another book and read it again.....thanks, ya'll......can't wait for the next adventure .Oh, and the scene of the ocean with those big rocks? My cousin and his wife had one of their wedding pictures there: standing in the water, barefoot as close to the big rock as possible and she wore this beautiful, wispy wedding gown, with flowers in her hair......beautiful, made me think of Cathy and Heathcliff......
I have a picture of a totally different tree, much larger than that, with my sister and son standing in front of it. I wonder what happened to it. I took the picture in 2010.
Many things like the figures were not there in 1955, nothing but Smokey the bear existed, no big foot was ever mentioned. There was a big redwood that you drove your car thru. Beautiful place.
Our family visited here in 1965. I remember standing in front of Paul and it asked where we were from. Creepy to a 10 year old.
Third generation Californian and this brought back great memories.
My family are from a place in socal known as Palos Verdes we travelled north every year to visit family and we went to the trees of mystery in 1952 had our picture taken by Paul and Babe.
In the early eighties bought an place called the Fools Rush Inn in the early 80s on hwy one in a town called Littleriver two miles south of famous Mendocino where they filmed Murder she wrote. Hope you visit that beautiful part of Northern California one day.
I am a Pastor in the McKinleyville area. but used to pastor in Smith River and did a wedding at the Cathedral, tree. And a pastor friend of mind used to be the voice of Paul Bunyan.
He got in from the back and could see our through where the beard is. Pastor James C. Ray
Hey Jeff. The KC Massacre came up at another site I frequent. I posted a link to last week's vid there. Maybe you can get some more hits. Been to ToM once when a kid. I only remember the statues, not what else was there. By the way, if Babe is anatomically correct, there'll be nothing down there....
Well Sarah and Jeff, this is my trip.. Have been here a few times, stayed at Motel Trees and ate at the restaurant. My very favorite is the Avenue of Giants and all its stops along the way. We're hoping to go next spring, also love Eureka and the Somoa Cookhouse you were at, but they are renovating, maybe we'll catch it next spring. Thank you for the great vid.
I love the Redwoods. We took that road on a trip North. There are many around here too. Armstrong Woods, Muir Woods, my yard. Thank you for a great video.☮️💖🎶
What a beautiful place. Thank you both for taking us with you on your trip. The "pooped logger" sculpture/statue had quite the flat top. It almost looked as though something had been broken off or someone had cut off the top. Not sure if you looked closely or not, but could you tell if it was intentional or not? Anyway, whoever it is that did all of these sculptures and carvings has an absolutely incredible talent. I can't even draw a stick figure, let alone carve out something that resembles any sort of actual object or person, lol.
My son and I had a lot fun when I took him camping for a week up that way last year. We stayed at Chinook RV Resort for two days when we went to Trees of Mystery.
The Chinook RV is a beautiful campsite and the owner is really nice, highly recommend staying there if you are in an RV or tent camping.
You were close to the old WW2 Radar Station. Did you have a chance to see it?
There's also part of an old bridge that got washed away during a massive flood that came from the redwoods and ran all the way to the ocean, it's on the way to the Radar Station.
There's so much to see and do up in that part of the state.
I was just in Ferndale a couple weeks ago and drove part of the Avenue of the Giants.
Great job on this video! Looks like you both had fun.
My First Husband was a Logger as was 4 generations in my Family. Its Not an Easy Life that I know.
Hey I've always wanted to go up in those gondolas, been into the museum lots of times but never got up in the gondolas. Now I know I don't need to. Bit of a fear of heights myself. Great video!
I’ve been up and down the coast a few times when we lived in Grants Pass, Or. but I never saw where you were, just saw the place where you could drive a car through the tree. Thanks for another interesting video.
I was thinking that was the one I visited about 1978 or so when I was 7. I remember babe being on the left and when you showed the older picture I am a bit more positive that that is where we stopped. Is there, or was there, a speaker in Paul? I seem to remember it “talking”
It's like Jurassic Park. Giant tree forest. I gotta come there.
while i was in brookings or , my son n fam came to see me , we went here . coolest ever worth the stop and the trip to the top even WITH THE FOG !!!
I was there as a child and again with my children. There wasn't a gondola though. Would like to go back to ride that.
Smokey the Bear, Smokey the Bear howling and a growling and a sniffing the air, he can find a fire before it starts to flame that's why they call him Smokey yes that's how he got his name
Sounds like a great place to visit, but as it is on the Left Coast and I am on the Right I doubt I will make it there. .
Nice place to visit. Thank you. Have a great week
Very cool. I haven't been there since 1962
When I was a kid I loved talking to Paul
Did he talk back to you?
@@jbenziggy yes he use to talk to people
A beautiful part of the world. Great Video!
Couldn't agree more! Thanks!
