I have been to this site. The tree shown at the beginning is not the tree that withstood the most horror. Farther on, as you walk along the raised plank walkways around what is actually a rather small place, you come to a tree, massive, hundreds of yrs old, a tree upon which 1000's of skulls were crushed as their bodies were slung thru the air, especially kids, a tree around which people's arms were stretched and tied so their ribcages could be smashed with clubs, a tree from whom people were suspended, their arms behind their backs and who died screaming as their arms were ripped from their sockets and their lungs collapsed. At the base of this gigantic tree further inside the killing field, people were sledged with shovels and their blood and brains fell onto the ground. Around this tree, and in so many other places in this genocide park, poking out from the ground, you can see as yet uncollected evidence of the horrors: teeth, bits of cloth from shirts, kids' shoes, bits of smashed bone from broken bodies. Here stands this tree. In my experience, trees are harbingers of life. If a tree has any conscience, this tree weeps for the death its life has been forced to bear. I think this, of all trees, yearns for birds in its branches and laughing children scrambling from a tire swing. This tree knows enough misery. When I was there, I saw the bits of bone and shoe and shirt poking out from the earth. And when I came to the killing tree at the back, there was a young man sitting on the walkway. I don't know who he was or where he was from, but he was just sitting on the walkway collecting the grief of human horror into himself and weeping inconsolably. I dont think he even felt my hand on his shoulder for that brief moment; he was feeling all the heartbreak. And the tree, I felt, in its massiveness, did what trees always do. It shaded us from the sun and seemed sad and resigned to witness our lament at our idiot human folly.
My cousins aunt died bc of this and I’m really happy that ppl are showing support for Cambodia and making documentaries about it! I am from Cambodia btw
I have been to the beautiful country of Cambodia several times and have visited Choeung Ek where thousands of men, women and children were murdered and "S21 Tuol Sleng Museum of Genocide" where the most indescribable atrocities were carried out. It leaves one feeling numb and confused as to how anyone in their right mind could prosecute such terrible crimes predominately because of the irrational paranoia of Pol Pots regime. Whilst visiting S21 I met and spoke to a survivor Bou Meng, he was one of only a few who escaped death by having a skill, drawing which the Khmer Rouge made use of. His drawings of Pol Pot were so good, most people think they are photos, in fact the most famous pictures of Pot are not photos, they are drawings by Bou Meng. All of Bou Mengs family, wife and children were murdered by the Khmer Rouge.
Pol Pot was cast in the same mould as Hitler, Stalin and Mae Zedong. They had crazy narcissistic ideals of creating a super race with their own people in their own country. Their twisted ideals were radically out of touch with the rest of mankind. They murdered countless millions of their own people in the quest for the impossible dream. They were total psychopaths of the worst kind.
@@attilamert6973 Speculating on motives is a tough business. But I will posit this. We tend to describe the outcome of what is simple contempt, envy, and jealously as heinous, grotesque atrocities because we don't fully accept the inherent evil in such sins. For example, the difference between the jealousy of a lover and the kind which drove Pol(itical) Pot(ential) to employ genocide is the same. The difference in outcome is a difference in degree only. It is only a difference in the degree to which it is indulged, funded, and carried out to scale. The nature or substance of the evil is of the same kind. The danger is to allow the horror of what happened in Cambodia in particular to be described in anomalous terms. Men like Hitler or Pot weren't just crazy. Before anything else they were contemptuous, jealous, envious and ambitious in a pedestrian sense. Cain killed Abel for the same reason. James 14but each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed. 15Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death. Thus is progressivism.
Many of the people that ended up in the killing fields had come from Toul Sleng, a school in Phnom Penh that was used for torturing people. Pol Pot was an individual who was unable to control his own people. Some areas were worse than others. I lived and worked in Cambodia from 1996 to 2017. I married a Cambodian lady who had been through Pol Pot, forced to marry and left with 2 children. I was able to help raise her son and daughter who are now lovely adults with their own kids.
@Google User There is no such thing as "pure communism" because humans are involved. Thousands were murdered in Cambodia for no other reason than wearing spectacles or having false teeth. Towards the end the snake was eating its own tail. Its interesting that following any successful revolution the pioneers, usually students and intellectuals were the first against the wall. Be careful what you wish for.
Cambodia was a very highly educated country in the 70's, but you can't fight tyranny (from 12 year olds) when they strip you of guns. And the km was brainwashed
I tried not to watch as I have most family members died under Khmer Rouge regime... so afraid I may see my father, uncles, cousins.... so sad even decades passed, memories are still vivid and wish could reverse time to start all over again... it’s been a long journey for me.... perhaps too slow from pains.... wish everyone peace...
Sorry you had to go thru that no one deserved any of the things that men do in harm to others . May you live a peaceful life and blessings to you and your family loves you .
Let's not forget : Evil does exist. The biggest trick the devil played was to make many believe he does not exist. Ironically , this tragedy happened to the most peaceful and humble people on earth.
Thank you for the video! I was lucky to escape Cambodia 1 week before Pol Pot gained full power. I was found in a bombed jungle as one of 2 survivors from a Village. I was supposed to be on Operation BabyLift and last min. we went with a Canadian air force plane instead.
Visited this place some time back..heavy air penetrated even from where i stepped in from the entrance..the place is segmented by check points, explaining the events took place respectively. The killing tree was really massive. And there was a lake behind the killing tree. It was really really sad. I swear i just walked out straight back to a shed near the entrance, just standing there crying. It was really difficult being there..cant imagine what those victims went thru. My prayers to the fallen
I am privileged to have a survivor of this horrid tragedy in my home daily to help me with my disabled son. He survived the walk to be free. He was saved by missionaries . He has shared much of his story with me. I knew of this but he has shared things you can only hear from someone who has been through such a thing.
Is this man named Chin Lee? I met a then younger man in 1989 purely by chance because we both attended Ultimo TAFE college. His humility and kindness I'll always remember... He too retold his experience and he was rescued by missionaries who brought him to Australia.
I live in the United States California. At the time of their horrible deaths I was living a life that had no clue to the horrible and disturbing behavior of this. Most people in America don’t know how blessed they are. I truly pray they never have to go through something like this. It’s something nobody should have to go through. @@naitzab All who kill innocents for any reason will dwell forever in the lake of fire, where there is much wailing, and knashing of teeth. We helped the Cambodian Refugees as they came to California in 1979 and 80. To thank me they held a feast and had the children do a traditional dance for me. So many moved to San Francisco and started their own businesses and really made a life here. It breaks my heart that people dont realize how America is the last and only hope. Now they are tearing our country down.
This happened within my lifetime. Children were indoctrinated into the killing. Not their fault initially, but they committed some terrible atrocities. Some of these children are still among us. I hope they have forgiven themselves.

Exactly. Evil does not die with the person. It uses the body as an avatar and manifests its next host in another time, another place. Evil can be fought. For good and light always prevail in the end as evil cannot exist solely on its own.
Whether we like it or not, geography, destiny, .... have made the fate of people in Cambodia - Laos - Vietnam into 1; that is, if any of those 3 countries is troubled, unstable, war-ravaged, ...., then the rest would go the same way: troubled, unstable, war-ravaged. # It's ONLY WHEN ALL THREE COUNTRIES are stable, peaceful, prosperous, then the people in those 3 countries could enjoy peace, stability and prosperity. # Thus, the people in those 3 countries must safeguard their peace, stable environment, prosperity TOGETHER, UNITED.

A revealing question .... Who supported Pol Pot and his Khmer Rouge to the bitter end ? # First, it's China - Directing, encouraging and supporting them to wipe Cambodia clean of Cambodians, making it ready for Chinese advisors, soldiers, workers, and settlers to flood in and turn it into another XinJiang (a China's conquered province) # Next, USA - Supporting and using Pol Pot and his Khmer Rouge (plus prodding Deng XiaoPing's China) to exact revenge on the Vietnamese who had dared to shoot down their B52s and kick the American new colonialists who were taking on the mantle of the French old colonialists, out of their country Vietnam # Then, Thailand, Singapore, .... - Lackeys following orders from the USA (and from China's in the case of Singapore) # Lastly, UK, Australia, .... - USA's vassals.

This begs a very glaring question . Why didn’t our news media talk about this hideous nightmare everyday back in the seventies. Why wasn’t politicians howling in anger as this horror was taking place? We have to ask ourselves as a society is this the same reason nothing was said as China carried out the most massive genocide in world history in the 1960’s? Perhaps a hindered million people murdered by Mao . And what of Walter Winchel . and the other media titans under the thumb of FDR in the 1930’s during the Stalinist /communists purges in which 30 million Russians, Kulaks and Ukranians where starved and butchered . Why has our , radios, televisions, newspapers etc always been silent as these communist regimes murder countless millions of innocent people. Even today as Christians are murdered in Africa nothing but silence. Everyday in the media we hear about the wicked racesist America, countless movies , articles speeches on and on. 750,000 white men died in the civil war to free the slaves and to rid the US of this vile system. This was over 150 years ago and it’s as if it’s still going on. Meanwhile up teen wars latter slavery and untold butchery have taken place under our noses in our neighboring countries and nary a word. It reeks of a globalist/communist agenda that actually supports these regimes ( FDR sent a General Stillwell to China during the Second World War to halt Chang Kai Shek from destroying Mao and his reds. This allowed both Russia and the US to build up and support Mao who would go on to murder untold millions of his own people) and desires to cause division among Americans by continually playing up, racial , economic and gender grievances . The horrible things that these poor innocent people had to endure is incomprehensible and to think those monsters even drowned out their pitiful screams. We better look alive powerful politicians in the US and Europe still hold to these same exact NWO tenants. And you can count on them using these same brutal tactics on anyone as they implement their agenda.
My mother and her family survived the regime for 4 years. My father's first wife and 3 children were murdered during the regime. Now as a parent myself I cannot begin to understand the pain. Time heals - but I don't know how it can apply to this.
It's really depressing to think there isn't a heinous act that HASN'T been carried out by humans somehow somewhere. We have so much potential yet there are still those that spring up to hold us back for their own selfish and disgusting motives.

I dont think he even felt my hand on his shoulder for that brief moment; he was feeling all the heartbreak. And the tree, I felt, in its massiveness, did what trees always do. It shaded us from the sun and seemed sad and resigned to witness our lament at our idiot human folly.

Sorry to hire god bless you
I have been to the beautiful country of Cambodia several times and have visited Choeung Ek where thousands of men, women and children were murdered and "S21 Tuol Sleng Museum of Genocide" where the most indescribable atrocities were carried out. All of Bou Mengs family, wife and children were murdered by the Khmer Rouge.
my dad survived this, and told me about how he would see many children being killed by banging their heads against the trees :(
How awful.

I wonder if they were puppets controlled to carried out by something else that we can not comprehend.
But what were pol pots motives. He Just killed babies for no reason
Fact: Polpot was supported by Mao Zedong
Same goes with Idi Amin too, they were the greatest mfers that walked the planet ..
We shit on their open mouth ..

# First, it's China - Directing, encouraging and supporting them to wipe Cambodia clean of Cambodians, making it ready for Chinese advisors, soldiers, workers, and settlers to flood in and turn it into another XinJiang (a China's conquered province)
# Next, USA - Supporting and using Pol Pot and his Khmer Rouge (plus prodding Deng XiaoPing's China) to exact revenge on the Vietnamese who had dared to shoot down their B52s and kick the American new colonialists who were taking on the mantle of the French old colonialists, out of their country Vietnam
# Then, Thailand, Singapore, .... - Lackeys following orders from the USA (and from China's in the case of Singapore)
# Lastly, UK, Australia, .... - USA's vassals.
When it comes to bigotry usa would be the first
@@mazharkhan4700 You obviously never set a foot in the USA.
You just forget the Communist regime in North Vietnam which could not stand a democratic one in the South...
I plan on visiting this place next month. My condolences. I cry inside for what hellish nightmare went down.
He lived to the age of 73, there is no justice in this world but what you make yourself.
His voice is very soothing ❤️
I always remember a CD i listened to but it welled up so much emotion that I found & watched The Killing Fields.A heartbreaking film that I never knew existed. That was nearly 20 years ago.The suffering of so many people yet again, most people have heard about the Holocaust but the other tradgedies in other countries often dont get heard. The world is full of killing & suffering but we never learn.Greed, money, and obscenities scour the earth each and every day.I dont believe in god but i send my love and respect to those who have passed on in such awful ways
Great job on the video. I visited the fields and it still haunts me.
I’m in Cambodia. But I don’t think I could visit the place.
My mother and her family survived the regime for 4 years. My father's first wife and 3 children were murdered during the regime. Now as a parent myself I cannot begin to understand the pain. Time heals - but I don't know how it can apply to this.
Every time I visit this site and others like it in Cambodia I cry form depth of my soul.
It's really depressing to think there isn't a heinous act that HASN'T been carried out by humans somehow somewhere. We have so much potential yet there are still those that spring up to hold us back for their own selfish and disgusting motives.
Evil knows no bounds.
Walked through this, didn't talk till I got back to our accommodation, thoughts, blessings and sunshine to those people. Still saddens me xx
I cannot contain my emotions when we visited this place..i can sense the agony of all the victims.
I came to this exact site in 2007 as a 12/13 year old kid living in the UK, the things i saw there and S-21 i willl never be able to forget. It gave me a whole new perspective on life. almost 15/16 years later and the memories of these places will forever haunt me, I could not imagine what it must have been like to be there at the time, only what i have seen from the killing fields film. The most somber places i have ever visited.
Death: the only guarantee of socialism/communism. Well, that and a shortage of food and medicine.
Nonsense, you obviously don't know the difference between the two.
@@davidgiles5030 Communism: a political theory derived from Karl Marx, advocating class war and leading to a society in which all property is publicly owned and each person works and is paid according to their abilities and needs.
Socialism: a political and economic theory of social organization that advocates that the means of production, distribution, and exchange should be owned or regulated by the community as a whole.
@@davidgiles5030 no difference,
Communists overthrew Pol Pot. Capitalists funded him.
Shit we’re seeing those things in the U.S. as we speak. 😂🤷🏾♀️
Let this be a lesson for those that still think “real communism” hasn’t been tried.
this is one of the saddest things ive ever seen
I am an Australian veteran . I spent one year in Cambodia in 92/93. There were opportunities to get Pol pot. We were not allowed to do what the world and more importantly the people of Cambodia wanted. He was never bought to trial and allowed to die peacefully. What pisses me off now is the tourists in Cambodia. Going there to fuck children use drugs etc. Pedophiles beware. I am around. I have many friends in government and the police. You will never be seen again. The Mekong is very unforgiving
Who was stopping you? I would really like to know. Thank you.
@@jeg5438 the hun sen government of Cambodia. And our Australian commanders. In the 12 months I was there I spent more than 9 in the jungle. That bastard lived in nth west Cambodia. Small village near the Thai border. He had his bodyguards but for professional Australian soldiers they would have not been much chop. But you can basically put it down to another failure by the United nations. Look how they stood by in Rwanda. Some of my mates witnessed the massacre in the stadium. They were immediately fucked for life. It all comes down to in both missions our orders for opening fire. We can only engage if being engaged. Where in traditional warfare we seek out and destroy. Peacekeeping mission run by the United nations have a history of failure. Hope this helped. Let me know if you need info on other stuff
It just makes me wonder. If one person took it upon themselves to kill the beast it would make a difference. Stalin, Hitler, Pol Pot. But God dosen't want that it seems. We're just suppose to live life without hurting anyone but if someone wants to kill us, well turn the other cheek. I don't understand. All the beasts could have been killed before they did so much damage.
@@jeg5438 Sadly these tyrants are well prepared, another of their members will fall into place. You must change hearts and minds.
Where are u from?
I have been around there on 3 different occasions. The last two was when I was with other friends that wanted to go. It was so difficult to go back the second time but the third, I really didn’t want to do it. If you walk around here and it doesn’t break you, then I fear that you have no heart.
I have a friend that I work with that survived this madness
I am so sorry ..... I'm here in the US ... I was too young to know or understand when this was going on ...... At that time the US didn't exactly let us know what was happening over there .....May God bless you all ......
Informative but sad
Knowing the fact that they used music to drown out the screams of people while that music is play in the video is hauntingly disturbing.
I cannot imagine nor believe the horrors of someone who was going to die.
I can't imagine that there were cold blood creatures which can be patient to use the bamboo sticks or farming tools to beat hundreds of victims till death in a day.
