I watched the movie first too and it was meh. But then I started paying attention at ATLA cartoon in the internet, thinking that it looks different and curiously started watching. Best decision in my life XD
Actually, that was my story! Doug's review of the film and top ten list inspired me to check out the show. Honestly, I watched the show on occasionally, but not religiously. I guess I was more of a SpongeBob guy. After a while, however, I realized one of my favorite aspect of animation, it could make you feel things other than laughter. If shows like this and several other shows that have been over the years, it can tell stories that are the perfect combination of silly and emotional more than any other medium. To me this one of the most relatable aspect of the medium (mainly because that's my outlook on life). However, even before I saw the show, I knew this film lacked the fun of the show, especially Sokka.
What's sad about this movie is that the kid who played Sokka was a die-hard Avatar fan. With his own limitations, he plays the part very well. But when it came to Shyamalan's directing, it broke him.
They didn't even mention that the Firebenders couldn't create there own fire in the movie. In the show the fire came from within them that Iron teaches in season one which makes sense. In the movie though they have to make a fire, have a torch or be lucky enough that the villages they go to all ready have lit fires for light and warmth to bend it making them the weakest benders in the movie.

Creators of Avatar, Fans of Avatar, and Fans of movies that don't suck: No! You take that Avatar out of your god damn title and go think about what you've done.
What they should’ve done is instead of making a movie based on the first season they should’ve made a movie about Aang before he ran away. Growing up as a monk. And then ending with him making the ball around himself and Appa and ending there or maybe ending on the cliff hanger of waking up to Katara. Fleshing our Aangs story would’ve made it a much more forgiving task since there isn’t much to compare it too. This should’ve ended up being as many movies as Harry Potter. On the other hand I’m glad it didn’t because now the original creators are remastering the series in live action on Netflix and there are getting GOT levels of money to do it and they said “this time we won’t have to white wash it like before.” Plus they had nothing to do with and hated the movie as much as everyone else.
To be fair to m.night, the casting was not his fault. Well, not COMPLETELY his fault. The actor for sokka is thr son of one of the ececutives, and m.night had to take him as a condition of making thr film. He had no training whatsoever. Which meant he needed to get a katara to match..... (she's also six years his younger but plays his OLDER sister) the aang actor was hired for his martial arts prowess, which is fair enough, and reportedly IS actually a lot like aang if left to be himself. Zuko was also initially played by jesse mccartny.... but the studio VERY quickly realised an all white cast was a problem and he voluntarily stepped down. Dev patel stepped in... and unfortunatly the ENTIRE fire nation had to be re-cast to match his nationality.... Additionally, apparently a LOT more scenes were shot to flesh things out and actually try to be lile the show, including a subplot with SUKI. Yes really. We even got to see some glimpses of the missing svenes in the trailer, and they actually make sokka seem like sokka. BUT the executives demanded a 100 minute maximum runtime, and an unrealistic deadline. Cinemablend did an article, and at least one employee made a similar report. The reason it turned out this way? The constant orders from above and problems working on the film basically slowly ground them doen and killed their spirit and love for the show, until they just wanted it over with..... and watching it? I can believe that. Edit: minor correction, KATARA Was the forced casting, Her dad was a businessman the studio owed a favour. sokka was chosen to match her but then had all his jokes and funny dialogue cut because of the sudden time mandate.
Sokka is older than Katara. He's 16, she is 14, iirc But yeah, they reaaaally screwed up with the casting. One thing ended up snowballing into more issues which eventually screwed up the whole movie.

I, as a fan of the anime, was sorely disappointed that Shamalan didn't even try to find the people from the cultures in the real world. Fire nation = Japan, Air nation = Tibet, Earth nation = China, Water nation = Inuit. What the hell was he thinking? His effects were cheap and stupid.

... Wait what? (googles) (O O) Oh my god. There actually is a Netflix remake planned. I don't care that the original people are on board, this does not seem like a good idea.
Well, let's see: For starters, the show disregards any established rules of the world while also trying to tie up loose ends that didn't need it. In ATLA, the Avatar has to travel the world and learn about the elements and the way they behave and interact with the world over the course of years, even a decade. In TLOK, Korra utilizes three of the four elements as a small child with no master whatsoever. In ATLA, the Avatar is explained as the reincarnating conscious being of the world itself, therefore able to wield all four elements. In TLOK, it's explained as a generic light vs dark battle with an overall confusing logic of the duality. Wan simply merges with the light half to fix the mess HE caused in the first place. Certainly takes away from the myth. In ATLA, the lion turtle explains that in the era before the Avatar came to be, there was no bending of the elements, but only the energy within themselves. In TLOK, the power to bend elements is FREQUENTLY given to people long before Wan was even born. In ATLA, bending is a fictional extension of martial arts, requiring training and focus to even develop your own abilities and style, it isn't something you can just fire up the moment you have it. In TLOK the second the ability is given to Wan he immediately begins bending fire by PUNCHING THE AIR. A trend that really catches on throughout the show. In ATLA, the element the Avatar has the most trouble mastering is the one opposite of their native nation. For Roku it was Water, for Aang Earth. In TLOK, the concept for some reason gets changed to Harry Potter Sorting Hat rules, where now it depends on your personality. While that in itself isn't too bad as no person matches the other in the same nation, it doesn't add up in Korra's case. The element she has the most trouble with is air, which is odd seeing how it is the element of freedom and possessing an unbound spirit, so a rebellious, adventurous and intuitive person like Korra should have no trouble learning it. In fact, learning air should be as hard for her as waterbending was for Aang. It was different, yet not difficult to understand for his personality, same should go for Korra and Air. In fact, going by the personality rule established in TLOK, her big hurdle would ironically be water, the element of change. Throughout the series Korra often struggles with adapting and responding to change, like Amon taking her bending, the loss of her previous lives at the hands of Unaalaq and the Red Lotus poisoning her. If Korra's weak spot was water, her arc to overcome it would've been more compelling. Imagine a Water Tribe Avatar that couldn't bend water, it would've given Korra a source of insecurity, shame, imperfection. Something that no one in her world ever saw. But it seems like the creators were more interested in giving us a sharp contrast to Aang instead of a character that works even within its own rules, and since most of her problems are solved almost immediately (Aang restoring her bending as a spirit even though bending has no presence in spirit form, and even Korra healing herself in a matter of episodes), that storyline wouldn't have left much impact either. In ATLA, character arcs could take dozens of episodes, seasons even to resolve, making the struggle all the more memorable and the resolve all the more satisfying and completing. It took Zuko two entire seasons to return to his father in a positive light and another ten episodes to build up the courage and finally speak the truth to him. Katara has been carrying the abscence of her father for two and the death of her mother for nearly three seasons. Sokka began his evolution with the Kyoshi Warriors in S1E04 and came to be the best he could be with Pian Dao in S3E04, exactly two whole seasons. Toph's development even went beyond the series' end and had to be resolved in a comic. And you can argue Aang's growth spans the entire series, beginning his journey as The Boy In The Iceberg and ending the hundred year war as Avatar Aang. Those episodes were named that way for a reason. In ATLA, Airbenders, Sky Bisons and Dragons are on the brink of extinction. The permanent impacts the Fire Nation had on the world are noticed nearly every episode. Even the title itself is a reflection of that. In TLOK, we get Bisons, Dragons and even Airbenders through one elaborate explaination after another. Putting a happy end on what could've been a clever and powerful reminder of what a war that rages on for a century can do to the world. In ATLA, lightning bending was a rare skill, requiring extensive training and peace of mind, a technique so special, only three characters in the entire series were shown creating and controlling it. The same can be said about metal bending. The one character in the entire show that uses it had to invent it first. In TLOK, there are now entire TEAMS utilizing these elements. And while Toph trying to teach others seems somewhat plausible, it massivley weakens the mystery and overall impact it had whenever either of these were used on screen, especially lightning. The more it is used, the more you see it, the more you know about it, the more accustomed to it you get, the less special it becomes. The list goes on. Korra is pretty far from amazing
If M. Night deserves any credit, it's for wanting to find actors that match the characters' ethnicity. Of course, the others wouldn't allow that because they thought white actors would be more marketable or something.
No, it's because finding a child actor who's actually any good is hard enough already, without limiting yourself to child actors who are also of some kind of Tibetan/Chinese/Eskimo heritage. Also apparently Katara's casting was because she was the daughter of some businessman the studio owed a favour.
I've watched a lot of shows. I've never witnessed anything so comprehensively awful. Every single decision they made making tLoK was fundamentally wrong. Mind you, I'm saying that having went into it wanting to like it. I gave it extra chances. I watched the whole fucking show even.
@seigeengine If you think every decision that went into ANY show is wrong, then you need to distance yourself from that show, not engage with it even in a negative light. Even the worst shows get some things right; it's statistics. If you can't find one thing to praise about a show, then the fault is always, ALWAYS, with you.

The Last Airbender movie is terrible, but I gotta admit that the actor playing Aang is adorable.
11:02 Yeah, I thought you would find this funny! XD
Oh yeah, are you the guy who reacted to Nostalgia Critic's review of Lion King?
Oh never mind Wrong guy. XD
I actually remember watching the movie but the wasn't that bad from what I recall.
I want to see him react to all of furry force
I’ve been watching The Rising of the shield hero and it is SO GOOD. It’s one of my favorite anime’s out right now. I highly recommend it. You should watch it at some point, RD.
What's this guy's deal with the moon?
He's probably gone bananas.
That's just his thing. Like how TheFlamingShark says potatoes.
There is one positive thing I can say about Shyamalan's Avatar, I like the new design for Aang's arrows.
And that's it!
Oh wait! Shaylaman's The Last Airbender also has an epic soundtrack!!!
But these are the only things about M. Night Shaylaman's The Last Airbender that were good or at least tolerable.
I still don't understand. This movie was a lot of fun. I enjoyed it.
You're kidding right?
I fail to see how it can be seen as enjoyable.
TJ G have you even seen the show?
Never noticed the title say "this movie sucks" in japanese at the top.
... Wait what? (googles) (O O) Oh my god. There actually is a Netflix remake planned. I don't care that the original people are on board, this does not seem like a good idea.
Oh yes!
Wait a minute. Is that a RWBY hat? More specifically a YANG hat?
He does react to RWBY.
CLASSIC
That makes me think 🤔 Did you rected to THe Leyend Of Korra???? I dont remember if you did and if you did i cant find it on your chanel
I think he watched it a really long time ago.
He watched it before he had a reaction channel and before he watched Avatar
@@immafiringyou oooooooh ok thanks 👍👍👍👍
Do you believe in destiny?
Perhaps
WTF is up with all the Korra hate on this ATLA video
Because Avatar fans are toxic and insecure. Always have been.
@@elementer5617 Or because Korra takes a giant dump on the original series? Obnoxious characters, terrible writing and shitting on the lore.
@@vandheerlorde6570 Also plenty of retcons.
Well, let's see:
For starters, the show disregards any established rules of the world while also trying to tie up loose ends that didn't need it.
Sokka looks more like a stick in the mud like Anakin skywalker, so boring
First
Your avatar reactions don’t work.
Reacting to a review? That is kind of sad.
And......?
Its entertainment.
I'm sure all 13 of your devoted subscribers wouldn't agree.
... but legend of korra is the worst show ever to be made.
You must not have seen a lot of shows
I've watched a lot of shows. I've never witnessed anything so comprehensively awful. Every single decision they made making tLoK was fundamentally wrong.
Mind you, I'm saying that having went into it wanting to like it. I gave it extra chances. I watched the whole fucking show even.
Then why did the majority love it so much? You obviously didn't watch the show with an open mind. Quit lying.
@@elementer5617 Wow, argumentum ad populum and a personal attack. That's some tightly packed fallacious fuckery you got going on.
Legend of Korra is so bad that Shyamalan would have to be too good into making bad movies to make it worse than the original.
