    ABOUT KIM'S CONVENIENCE:
"Kim's Convenience" depicts a Korean Canadian Kim family that runs a convenience store in the Moss Park neighbourhood of Toronto: parents "Appa" (Paul Sun-Hyung Lee) and "Umma" (Jean Yoon) - Korean for dad and mom, respectively - along with their daughter Janet (Andrea Bang) and estranged son Jung (Simu Liu). Other characters include Jung's friend and coworker Kimchee (Andrew Phung) and his manager Shannon (Nicole Power). The series is based on Ins Choi's 2011 play of the same name. Mr. and Mrs. Kim have worked hard to give their now-twenty-something children, Janet and Jung, a better life in Canada. This comedy finds laughter in the trials of running a literal 'Mom and Pop' shop while raising kids in a culture not quite your own.

@@a-zh6lkracism isn’t necessarily the word, because that’s a pretty western concept imo. But it’s definitely reminiscent of racism, especially considering they’re homogenous countries and their people don’t look or act the same, or even speak the same language. I think it’s fair to dislike japan, since it has done nothing to reconcile with korea and consistently acts like korea was the country in the wrong, but to hate japanese people is quite bigoted.
Like if jewish people hated germans. Though i don’t know many jewish people who hate germans, considering how much germany has done to reconcile and educate their people on their awful history. Maybe it’s different in other parts of the world though. But that would be bigoted too, if they did hate germans.

I'm Greek and I experience this with Spanish. If I hear Spanish from a distance and can't make out the words, I very often confuse it with Greek until I get closer and actually hear what's being said.
Also, I sometimes have difficulty telling the difference between a Greek and Spanish accent in English if I only hear a few words rather than full sentences or a lengthy conversation.
Same thing, but to a lesser degree with Swahili. I went to school with a lad who's from Tanzania and he was able to pronounce Greek words effortlessly with almost no discernible accent.
Just because two languages aren't mutually intelligible or even related, doesn't mean they can't sound similar. Sometimes, languages can naturally evolve to use/make similar sounds.

Mr. Kim said that Japan attacked Korea in 1910, but Japan never attacked Korea (Joseon). When the world started industrial revolution, Korea locked the country up and fell behind the times and lost the ability to run the country anymore.
So the king (Emperor) handed over the country to Japan on the condition of becoming a Japanese aristocrat. After that, Korea, which was like a medieval era, emerged as a modern society at once, and until the end of World War II, all Koreans were Japanese and were collaborators of Japan.
Koreans always want to change this history. It's a relatively recent event, but it's not even explained in school textbooks because they lost the war in Japan and didn't want to pay war reparations to the defeated country.

Well, that is the objective history however to those which opposed the annexation and further occupation, it was very much an attack. Millions of people disliked Japanese occupation, a Provisional Government was created in China, there was an official Korean Independence Movement. Not all Koreans were Japanese collaborators and to them the Japanese occupation of their country could be seen as an attack, especially with how brutal the Japanese were to ethnic Koreans.

    • @Susboi06
      @Susboi06 10 месяцев назад

@@taiwandxt6493 No country likes to have its country colonized by another country.
The reason why Joseon became a colony is simple.
In an era when empires and colonies overflowed the world, Joseon was powerless.
The only record of Joseon's large-scale fight against Japan was the rebellion of peasants to protect vested interests of the aristocrats.
However, the results were disastrous as modern armies dealt with peasants carrying agricultural implements.
Nevertheless, the majority of Koreans did not have much interest in Joseon's independence.
They were busy living under the new ideas of Japan with jobs to make a living or to take care of their families.
History should not be viewed in black and white. It can be seen that Japan's colonization of Joseon was wrong, but it is clear that Japan's help was great when laying the foundation for an independent Korea in the future.
And the Japanese Empire has already been ruined and disappeared by the United States. I hope you still don't think they follow imperialism. Such thoughts are not good for each other.
