    ABOUT KIM'S CONVENIENCE:
    "Kim's Convenience" depicts a Korean Canadian Kim family that runs a convenience store in the Moss Park neighbourhood of Toronto: parents "Appa" (Paul Sun-Hyung Lee) and "Umma" (Jean Yoon) - Korean for dad and mom, respectively - along with their daughter Janet (Andrea Bang) and estranged son Jung (Simu Liu). Other characters include Jung's friend and coworker Kimchee (Andrew Phung) and his manager Shannon (Nicole Power). The series is based on Ins Choi's 2011 play of the same name. Mr. and Mrs. Kim have worked hard to give their now-twenty-something children, Janet and Jung, a better life in Canada. This comedy finds laughter in the trials of running a literal 'Mom and Pop' shop while raising kids in a culture not quite your own.

      Just to add a fun note:
      The characters loosely means human carrot. On account of how the roots look like legs crossed lol.

    Japanese name for ginseng is ninjin . It is sad that the writers for this episode couldn’t spend 30 seconds to check this fact on Google translate or Google search . And the writers is having a strike for higher wages .

    • @sunnywiderman
      @sunnywiderman Месяц назад +10

      Heck, maybe the writers did know that. But they also know that Mr Kim wouldn't know that, because he's Korean and doesn't give a fig.

      Could easily be interpreted as Kim reciting misinformation believing it was actually Japanese because it fit his ideals of deriding anything Japanese.

    • @AsianBM55
      @AsianBM55 Месяц назад +4

      That’s a recent term only. Ginseng is the English interpretation of the Japanese original pronunciation of the Chinese word “renshen”. All East Asians vocabulary for their own word for ginseng originally was some derivative of this. It’s the interpretation of the Japanese version because ginseng was first introduced into western society via the Dutch who had trade relations with Japan in the 1600s, who got their ginseng from Korea.
      So yeah you’re right, some people really should take more than 30 seconds to do their research.
