You don't always get access to airport lounges. We returned from Nashville with a full price BA Club ticket. At Nashville BA Club passengers had no access to any of the lounges. Instead BA provided us with a voucher for food when airside, from selected cafes/fast food places. Anywhere vaguely decent was not somewhere that we could use the vouchers. So we couldn't use a lounge, the vouchers went where they belonged - in the bin. Very poor offering from BA. Mind you, pre-takeoff cocktail and inflight service with BA was very good.

Having to spend £20K in one year to get one (?) companion voucher is a bit of a stretch for the vast majority of people. Even £10K when it's an Amex card which most places either don't taken or charge you to use it. Are there membership fees for these cards? There are in Oz. Especially Amex. And no companion freebies. Just QANTAS points.
Hey Paul. In the UK, there is a no fee version of the Amex which earns you points for BA (British Airways) and it offers a companion voucher at £20k spend. You can upgrade to a Premium Plus card which has an annual fee, but you also earn 1.5x avios for each £1 spent and a companion voucher for a £10k spend. With any of these cards you need to do the math - if you’re paying an annual fee of £195 annually but not getting more value in points, then the card isn’t worth it.
@@patrickvenn8558 It's the down side of living in Oz. Limited airmiles bonuses on cards and QANTAS is (almost) the only miles earner. One bank is offering a $3 spend just to earn 1 Krisflyer mile! And pretty much all cards have membership fees. Still, I look on the bright side. In WA, I'm in one of the safest places in the world!

@Robert Gonzales they definitely don't advertise it. However, the ones I mentioned still have the stopover program in place. I used 2 of them on vacation last year. But as you mentioned, if you're in a hurry, it wouldn't be a practical travel itinerary.

I use the airline with stopover programs. They give you a free hotel or a free tour. Turkish, Emirates and Singapore does this..
