- Taking A Tour Through Audiophile Today's Listening Room.
I've read a number of comments stating that my dedicated listening room is TOO SMALL for these full range Canton Speakers. Well, I make no apologies in disagreeing. Please look at this video from Eric Alexander of Tekton Designs. (The good part kicks in at the 2:38 mark.

I'm sharing a link to the PartTime Audiophile review of the MC1502. It's most certainly worth a read.

I think my favourite videos in audio are people talking through their system. I enjoy the passion and thinking behind setup and component choice, the differences are what make this hobby so interesting.
Good for you. Just like talking to your plants. Nice passion but too expensive.
Wow just wow. Was enamored by the size of the mcintosh tube amp. Well done 👏
What an absolutely gorgeous and stunning room and rig. One can only imagine how well it sounds. I appreciate you sharing it with us and look forward to seeing your next segment.
Only sounds as good as your ears.
@@mobby1212 Pfftttttt....
Awesome! Darn, I don't know what telegram is or how to use it?
Fantastic set up! Great twist on the more common Tube preamp and Solid State amp, or all Tube electronics. My first exposure to a Technics turntable was back '79, an original SL 1200.
Thank you for sharing.
🤗👍😎 THANKS FOR SHARING YOUR AUDIOPHILE JOURNEY 💚💚💚
Great room tour video and wonderful setup.
Great room tour, your equipment is first class.
SIR , THANK YOU FOR THE TOUR , I HAVE SAE EQUIPTMENT , 1974 ERA, STILL LOOKS BEAUTIFUL !! WITH TECHNICS TT SL110 WITH A SME ARM AND MICRO ACOUSTICS CARTRIDGE !
Beautiful system. Great walk through.
Absolutely gorgeous setup! I'll bet the choral symphony in Beethoven's 9th would raise goosebumps on your system! I've liked and subscribed.
Thank you! I have that and it does! 😍
Enjoyed your video very much. Thank you. I got into the audiophile hobby a bit late in life, but better late than never. Your listening room looks great and I don't think it's too small. Look forward to seeing more of your videos.
Nice set up. Use to be a tube guy until I heard Luxman Intergraded amps. Cheers.
Rock on!
Nice setup with a lot of attention to detail. Thanks for sharing 👍
I have a listening room. This changed everything. I have JM Reyraud Cantabile from France . Floorstanders do a great job. Wonderful system. Congratulations
Enjoy the journey. It's fun (or at least can be).
I came across this vid while browsing for a cheap Yamaha amp review. Two different worlds lol. Amazing to see your room, thanks for sharing
Thanks for the tour! Love it!
You're very welcome. Thanks for the nice comment.
Two thumbs up, well done!
Gorgeous!
Extremely beautiful.
What a great and well selected system. Truely love it!
Very nice! Outstanding equipments 🇬🇧
What an awesome tour and beautiful system you have. Thanks for sharing with us. I would love to have a dedicated listening room, maybe one of these days, but currently it's not in the cards with my wife. If you ever get bored with that techniques turntable and just want someone to take it off your hands I'm willing. 😁
The Technics will be hanging here for a bit longer I'm afraid.
Great video, Excellent equipment! Simply Beautiful room! Bravo sir!
Thank you for the kind comment. The room will be getting a tweak in the coming days, so stay tuned...!
Wow what a beautiful sound
Beautiful setup
Hugely inspiring. I even loved the bit focusing on your one pain point, the digital source.
I really felt that pain!
Maybe try one of the fancier network streamers? A dedicated device might suit your needs better than a Windows PC while using less power, generating less heat, with fewer moving parts (none), etc., but I guess you’d have to research compatibility with that McIntosh head unit
Looks like good potential for a very engaging sound you must enjoy immensely
So very nice. Can't think of anything to add but not seeing your vinyl collection. Lovely indeed.
Vinyl Collection. The Stuff of a future video. 👍
Very interesting, I see you have treatments on the walls, just started putting some in my new music room, real game changer for me. I’m running a McIntosh as well, MA 6600 with the Auoformers, great equipment. That tube amp looks incredible, can’t imagine how good it sounds. Looks like you could double the size of your room and still have more then enough power to really cook. 👍😎
I failed to mention the acoustic panels in the room. My Bad! There are 12 panels in the room, including 3 directly behind my listening chair. They do an excellent job of absorbing unwanted reflections. I would like to treat the ceilings a bit though.
My room is 15’ x 20’ with just a couple chairs like yours so not much to absorb the sound.
We just finished the room last year so it took a little time for me to get to know what I didn’t
like, the echo started driving me nuts, even more then a few people in the room it would get
loud. I put up 5 24”x 48” panels and dropped in a 10’x 12’ thick carpet. What a difference it
made. I use to have to boost the bass but no more, keep it all flat. The lower end detail has
never been better. I tend to spin vinyl more then anything, don’t stream at all but have a couple CD players for none serious listening. In my 60’s and been at this since my 20’s.
Keep coming back to audio time and time again. It’s a great hobby. Chow 👍😎
Great looking system. I also love my Mac gear.
Respect!! Lovely setup
Good evening, excellent video, excellent audio system, I would like to ask you what material are the panels on the wall on the sides of the acoustic boxes.
Thank you very much.
Great system.
I have had Kevin of KABUSA upgrade my Technics SL-1200M3D - tone arm wiring, interconnects, and dampening. Improved the entire system.
Good to hear. It's been on my mind quite a bit of late.
@@AudiophileToday Kevin Barrett - owner has a great rep for upgrades - 1200 is the only model he has worked on consistently for the past twenty to thirty years.
When clicking on the address it goes to a bland page - post a proper link and what I have won - thx in advance

Wonderful set up Sir! 🍺
Thoroughly enjoyed the tour! What an awesome rig you’ve got there!! 👏👏👏

Hi sir great system , that obviously gels together . Not a cheap solution but a realistic answer to the mega installations that are shown on RUclips . Best wishes and kind regards from the UK 😀👍👍👍
Cheers Mate. Thank you for the kind comment.
Excellent
Thank you , enjoy your system and the music.😀
Your cat said anything not covered is fair game. Hilarious!!!
Super fine system. Love McIntosh gear. My electronics PS Audio Stellar M1200 mono amplifiers, PS Audio Stellar Phono Preamplifier, PS Audio PerfectWave SACD Transport, PS Audio DirectStream DAC, Rega Planar 8 Turntable, Rega Apheta 3 Moving Coil Cartridge, Magnapan 3.7i, NAD C 165BEE Preamplifier, Kimber Kable PBJ Interconnects, Kimber Kable 4PR Speaker Cables 2.0 meter, Definitive Technology SuperCube 8000 x2. No reel to reel. Admire them. CD collection (approx. 1000), Vinyl (approx. 1000). Just stumbled onto your channel this afternoon 👍
Ps Audio makes great kit. Thanks for the nice comment.
Laptop, benchmark DAC 3 , Dolby Lake, genelec 1038’s. Sorted. Spend the rest on room acoustics.
Gorgeous set up. Gorgeous room. The 2 track vs 4 track - is the 2 track using the same width tape as the 4 track?
Yes. 1/4 Inch tape
Very nice!
Love your two R2R tape decks! I have those two models as well (as well as a few others including four Revox A77s and two Crowns!)
Do you have a good tech that you use for service? My guy is getting long in the tooth and has been scaling back his business of late.
@@LetThereBeSound1 Thank you so much Oz! This is great info!!
@@AudiophileToday My pleasure! 👍
Phil Lefever Different types of interconnect, home made, borrowed from a hi fi dealer, bought used etc. Sound different to each other and can be used to tailor the sound of your system.
Thanks for the video. Great system. Where did you get the custom dust cover?
Norman Cones - stereosquares.com
Real nice gear.
The first pair of speakers I ever bought were the Canton CT 1000 (early passive radiator design).
They've come a long way and yet are still relatively unknown in the USA.
Great system
Enjoy!!!!
Wondering how far apart are the loudspeakers left tweeter center to right tweeter center and, how far away from the speaker center point is your head/ears? Thank you.
Sotto Oppo vedo Auralex assorbitore,io li uso sotto il sub e sotto i diffusori surround, cosa ti da come miglioria sotto Oppo che è giá sul rack ? Bellissimo tutto ciao
Beautiful and big system 🤩 . Which speakers did you use before? What kind of music do you play?
I had a pair of Magnepan 1.7's. Mostly listen to clasical music and jazz.
Jesus! That looks like the Abbey road Studios! Hey, great collection of musical devices you've got there!
What is it about McIntosh components what you so like to have and hear...?
Just a lovely setup, really like it! Thank you for the video. May I ask what size your room is? I'm sorry if it has been asked/answered but I can't find it.
Thanks for the nice comment. I've honestly forgotten the room dimensions. It's not a large room. Medium(ish) in size I would say. Enough space for me, so I'm satisfied.
Oh very nice!
Thank you for making this video. I have fond memories of the Technics turntables. In my teens during the late 80s to mid 90s, I was DJ-into with the Technics Mark II. What is the size of this room?
I just don’t have a room for floor standing speakers so I am hoping to get a good pair of bookshelves, perhaps with a sub sometime in the future. For now, I use my small collection of headphones, DACs and Amps.
Stay tuned. I'll be doing a headphone video soon.
@@AudiophileToday sure will!
What kind of treatment is the thin black angular panel behind the lamp? Thanks
Great room wow 😊
It's vinyl. It comes in rolls and in a large variety of different colors and patterns. Static electricity is what makes it cling to the window.
Love those R2R ‘s
Great 👍
Really nice system you have.
I have the oppo 203 and I also use it as a streamer is roon ready and it sound really good y use all my files plus the qobuz.
Nice setup. I will check out those speakers.
Canton makes great speakers, although mine are now superseded by newer models.
Amazing set up and I am sure there is a Mercedes S class in your house parking area 👌👌
Lol. When you see my system change to Magico Speakers and D'Agostino amps, the S-Class Merc might be a bit more spot one. 😂
you have there what i think is a well thought about system wich is hard work because when mixing diferent components from several brands one might not know how it will sound but the way you presented all components looks like a very good sounding one ,mine is totally diferent i have a mix of 70´s compionents and also have a tube amplicated system but appart from a integrated amplifier system , those speakers by the box shape they do seem to deliver a nice and almost perfect sound this also with a nice amplification system you have there ,what today is not that seen in younger people systems is a good recording system and those reel decks are both great but i do think that the tascam would be better ,this talking about the ones i know, as an example i only use the regular type of deck no reverse and only two ways recording .I put to use an akai bought in 1970 that i thought it wouldn´t work but for my surprise it did record and play with a very good sound, when using a old reel that was supposed to be an experimental recording it stayed perfect on both channels, but what i´ve used is a 76 RT-707 from pioneer(not sure if it´s the right reference)and having so many reels stored i started to try them and they seem to still record and play without any problem also have a lot of cassette decks that when i bought my first one was because of my car stereo system from blaupunkt , having tried the minidisc it seemed good to use in my car as an upgrade from cassettes , cds where i live they get destroyd because it´s to hot . The minidisc i tried it in substitution of the cassettes but returned to cassette recording ,it´s a plus that today it´s rare to find anyone recording cassettes, i do remenber making travels and everyone would ask at the time to play his cassette but having learned that not every cassette is good for record or playing not only because of the quality of the tape but because of the built itself of it´s casing can destroy or reduce a lot of years of perfect working of any cassette player or recorder, my system is much less expensive and the most recent componet i got was in 96 ,everything else is from the 70´s and a few from the late 80´s or early 90´s . but i´m happy with what i have to listen to music .To end, i have to say you have there a very good sound system and it seems to deliver high quality sound but i can´t afford a system of that quality or close to it ,regards
Thank you for your comment. I agree, the Tascam is a better tape deck than the Teac. I too have a Pioneer RT-707, but it is not being used at present. I love vintage gear by the way and wish I still had my old Akai system from 1978.
Beautiful setup. The only thing I would change for myself would be to switch the speakers to Bowers and Wilkins 802 Signature in cherry.👍👂
B&W makes outstanding speakers.
@@AudiophileToday Yes, B&W does. But I don't think they compete with yours when it comes to clarity, refinement, low end slam, instrumental colors, dynamics, and if you listen to classical music, orchestral textures. Maybe the newer 801D4's might give yours a run, but with that guys comment you're being too kind.
@@helgar791 Friend of mine has the 805 D3's and it never ceases to amaze me how much brilliant sound comes out of those small speakers.
Love your room, what’s the size ? Thanks
My pc had the same exact issue I’ve had it for years. Replacing the internal hard drive fixed the issue for a little bit but started happening again within a few months
I'll have to give it one shot to have it fixed. Hope it works.
Precioso equipo muy buen gusto un saludo
What is the brand of the black hi-fi rack please ? I'm looking for something more modular for my own system, thanks.
VTI Audio Racks from Stands and Mounts
Love your room. Can you speak to where I can take my technics and upgrade in NJ. I have the 1210 GAE. Thanks. Your room is amazing !!!!!
Thanks for the kind comments. Visit this site for the Technics upgrades: www.kabusa.com
How much did you pay for the EAT TT and what brand is your equipment rack?...tia
Canton has released the legendary Karat GS Speakers, any thoughts on these?
Don't know enough about them to comment. They carry the Canton name, that goes a long way in my book.
Very nice.
Fabulous work… Doors and windows are the bane of any audiophiles life 🤯 where do the sound waves go when they hit that wooden cabinet? 🤔 I really think you should lose the furniture to improve the sound and are the speakers equidistant from the side walls?… perhaps worth a try 👍
Like yourself, I found a pair for speakers that I honestly believe I'll take to the grave with me!!! After some years of playing the speaker revolving door game, the Revel Salon 2 speakers finally put all that to rest.
Those Revel's are very fine speakers indeed. Enjoy them for years to come.
Nice job! I wish we were friends haha.
Maybe the PC issues are due to the bass vibrations affecting the hard-drives? It's very likely, given the proximity of the computer to the speakers.
You may want to explore ssd storage options instead.
No way to know what really has caused the problems. PC's are notorious for unexpected breakdowns.
Legit scenario Ed. Never thought about it this way but with such speakers in proximity. Not far fetched. If it indeed has a mechanical drive definitely replace with SSD. Plugging in another disk is always the first thing i did, as its statistically the most common problem with desktops.
Nice Room and system! Congratualtions! Thanks for sharing.
Love the Cantons. I'm very fond of mine also. I have the Vento 890.2 DC's. Ceramic tweeter is surreal. Never heard a tweeter so sweet and perfect sounding.
then you should hear the MPD Tweeter that monitor audio has far superior to any dome tweeter on the market.
@@chrisrichards2827 another fancy acronym for an AMT tweeter. Considering Canton has been around for over 5 decades and uses the ceramic tweeter in their 30k speaker....I'll take Canton all day. Very natural sounding at all frequencies given to it. AMT's dont sound natural at certain frequencies.
@@ryanschipp8513 actually Ryan maybe you should do your research a little bit it's not a normal AMT Tweeter they fixed the problems that other amts have that's why they sound so much more three-dimensional and natural maybe you should go listen to a pair of platinums before you say anything there's not a dome or ribbon tweeter on this planet that sounds as good as that MPD Tweeter that monitor audio developed sorry buddy and Canton are very two-dimensional sounding compared to the monitor audio platinum their driver technology is nowhere near as good, the monitor audio platinum are much more three dimensional airy spacious natural sounding than Canton.
@@ryanschipp8513 so they've been around for 5 decades big deal a dome Tweeter will never be as good as an AMT sorry especially one that's had the problems fixed that most amts have.
@@chrisrichards2827 tell that to the millions of people in Europe that choose Canton over almost every other manufacturer in Europe. They are the third largest seller in all of europe. Obviously they're doing something right.
You’re obviously a very shrewd buyer of hifi equipment. Buying end of line and getting reasonable deals.
The markup on new gear is just crazy. Couldn't do anything on the tube amp though. Full retail on that one.
Very nice. But where is your blender????
ugh, I had a wire chewing cat years ago. thankfully not one in this current batch!
Can you tell me what is the record clamp that you have on the Technics turntable?
It was made by a machining company called TT Weights. They've long since discontinued production of their turntable product line. Sorry.
Thank you@@freddaigle5902
Man that tube amp is huge, I have seen a few of there much smaller tube amps but that thing is a monster. It looks like you would need a forklift to move it.
Oi! from Chicago. Love vinyl records.
Hello Chicago! Home of Jake and Elwood
may i ask what magnepans you used to have and did you use solid state or tube amplification? tia.
1.7's. I used a 60 watt tube integrated in conjunction with a pair of Musical Fidelity 550K Superchargers. The Maggies were very power hungry which is partly why I soured on them.
@@AudiophileToday i thought it was common knowledge that maggies needed high current amps to sing. i don't think that a 60 watt tube amp would cut it. i'm glad you're enjoying your current loudspeakers.
@@MD-cy6pe For the record I was running them with 550 watts of power. That's the fireworks the Musical Fidelity Superchagers brought to the table.
Very nice system!………….😎👍👋✌️🇨🇦
Nice 👍🏽
I am in Germany and looking to buy the wharfedale elysian or the canton ref 3k. they both sound good, but the canton's are very clear.
I'm sure which ever you decide on will be a great choice.
@@AudiophileToday do you know about the build material. Is it laminated wood or mdf?
@@vicg5323 I believe they are multi-layer MDF. Very dense and inert. From what I understand they are made similarly to the B&W speakers here: ruclips.net/video/8RIbYVSB48Q/видео.html
@@AudiophileToday the Cantons are multilayer HDF :)
if you can raise the speaker conductors 0.5 cm higher you will get a fuller sound from your system
You need an SSD in that PC, and the dust cleaned out. It will speed it up tremendously. A 2 TB Samsung Evo SSD costs less than $200 and I expect it to last 10+ years.
Please,Where did you get the chair and ottoman ?
It was an online order from Macy's. Not sure if it's still available though.
What powercables do you have? Nothing was said about it.
Sorry I forgot to mention that. Pangea AC9.

❤
Nice system, a shame you have to sit up against the rear wall, sounds very live too. Room dimensions? Looks very square.
Rectangular, but would like more air behind me.
Canton doesn't have speakers now with dual mids like yours have.
Congratulation for the Canton speakers, they are fantastic! I live a few miles away from the company and i love them. They develope and manufacture every single part of their speakers inhouse, just except the body. Its a family owned company with 50 years of experience in speakers. I own the A55 and in fact, its nearly impossible to beat a Canton within its price range!!
I plan to buy a Mc C50 and i am excited how it will sound! Great setup, great speakers, congratulation! Greetings from germany to a Canton brother!
Thank you for the nice comment. I love my Canton Ref. 1's. Fabulous sounding speaker and one of hi-end audio's great values for the money. Very popular throughout Europe I understand. Canton is still trying to get traction here in North America, but they have a new distributor so things are looking up for them.
i am reminded of my way back in my long ago days when Playboy Magazine was about 1960's hot cars,, big bunny boobs and stereo equipment reviews...
Those were the days...
Well, you should first change the size of listening room, at least 3-4 time bigger 🎉🎉
Nice setup , I find having the grilles off don't make any difference to the sound
