  • Part 5, people! Let’s rebuild the hubs, true and tension, and resurface the brake tracks. Also, reinstall the brakes with new pads, rebuild the rear derailleur, install the shifters and brake levers, and re-cable everything. Getting closer!
All of the other builders who created and are participating in the #cheapbikebuildoff have formed an incredibly supportive community. I highly recommend checking them out and subscribing to their channels if you are interested in this and similar topics. Awesome bunch of people:

Totally stole that from the Canadian TV show ‘Letterkenny’. A reflection of my grade school sense of humor.

Does it seem to you that shimano pads are too hard, I switched to jagwired which are extremely soft and braking improved much.

Honestly, I used these Shimano pads because I had them on the shelf. I typically use Kool Stop black or salmon on my personal bikes. I have used the Shimano pads in the past though. They are harder and longer wearing, but I honestly can’t remember how they performed comparatively.

@@ReferenceBicycle As a budget option jagwire is much better than shimano, shimano lasts longer but they grind your rims and they are the same price. Koolstop salmon is much more expensive

True. Jagwire pads were my shop stock replacements when I had the shop. I can’t recall using them personally, but I installed tons of them on customer bikes with good results.
