Robby Bro by a new old wrecked limo for the interior so you can transplant it from the new wrecked to the newly rebuild Laymo!!! I think that would be sick! OR buy a bunch of bucket harness seats and put them in the Laymo to take passengers on a rock climb but safely and in Air conditioning!!!

The dukes trk is absolutely legendary, but I have to ask about the driverside cab corner.. ? Right below the gas filler it definitely stands out a different darker color.. ? Is that from new spilled gas or wasn't prepped right..? I watched it like ten times, and thought maybe the door stuck out to much and was making a shadow.. but the body lines seem right.. so I figured I'd ask as to why that cab corner is darker then any other part on the side of the trk in the same color.. ?
No matter the reason I'd give my left nut for that trk.. you all did such an amazing job.. 👏

If you think corrosion on your wires might be an issue, use marine grade wire. It's tinned copper not bare copper. Also use dielectric grease on the wire before you crimp the terminal on. Then use adhesive lined heat shrink tube. It will outlast the vehicle.

On the land cruiser I think the deciding factor for me is how much of that rust has to be cut out anyway for the build and making everything work. You know how much work it saves to start with a better body. I try to picture what's needed and not needed because a lot of stuff gets cut up and modified depending upon the level of mods your doing. If that body your looking at still has structural integrity compared to yours, like not just collapsing in on itself it may be worth it. But if you still have to source a bunch of body parts it may be worth looking for a better example unless the price is right to have more parts around. Yours is pretty bad you may want to purchase that one if the price is right and possibly keep looking for an even better one still or hold out for a better one. When I build something I try my best to start with a good body although I have a Datsun that was horribly rusted but has sentimental value and I stuck with its original body.

    • @marvindebot3264
      @marvindebot3264 10 месяцев назад +1

Yup, and it's been trouble. Trailmater doesn't have a four-link front end and is (normally) used in flatter terrain but still full credit for holding it together when he has done some crawling.
I gather Robby is planning on building this up like MOOR's wrecker for more extreme use. With modern autos clutches are simply not the best choice offroad.
I prefer a manual on road, all day every day but for 4x4 work give me an auto, they make life so much easier. They put power down smoother, you can double foot tem for creeping at very slow speeds with more revs and they are just better at offroading. @@notsevenfeettall

Hey Robby and crew, I've restored over a dozen 9th gen F-Series trucks so far. 1992-1997 Fords are my jam. I can help out with interchangeability questions. If you're planning on 4-link, I'd sell off the original axles and upgrade to the 2005+ Superduty axles. There are kits out there from Blowing Diesel, Sky Mfg., etc to swap in the newer axles. Be careful in the OBS Ford market. There are a lot of companies that are not good, and a lot of grifters out there. Not to be negative, but some of the major players in the OBS Ford market are just about the money... and rebrand other peoples products. I've been doing builds for 25+ years, I'd love to help out with recommendations on the wrecker.

Hey Robby... it's a lot of fun watching your RUclips "channel" to see the things that you and Hillbilly (and the other guys who work with you) tackle, and it's neat to see your friendships with; Mat & the gang at Matt's Off-Road Recovery, Paul Cox's Fab Rats and Rory on the videos he puts out. My wife and I live in Seattle, but she and I have taken a few automotive "Road Trips" to Utah, plus I've ridden through much of; Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Wyoming, Utah and Colorado on a 1998 Road King Classic Harley-Davidson notorcycle, so I understand Hillbilly's excitement about the motorcycle that you and he just recently restored. BTW, you can tell Hillybilly that I road my bike to Milwaukee to attend the 100 year Anniversary Party of H-D!
Keep working and putting out the videos and I'll keep watching!

I never said this but Hillbilly is really good to explain situations and R&R For some of you first timers. He’s better at electrical then he gives credit also.
Constant velocity joints: pain but I’ve rebuilt them years ago. Just clean everything up and take your time. But I want argue that they can be a pain.
Someone made a comment that Robby could just build his own body doing sheet metal work himself. He said take to long and nobody wants to watch that. Robby, if you decide to do a lot of that just get some of it filmed and edit it out and use it as back up videos on how to roll and bend your own body parts. I’ll watch those edited versions.

So impressed with you guys, maybe even a bit jealous. Never got the auto body/mechanic gene. I enjoy watching your videos. If you ever have a desire to do a custom paint job, and wheels on a 2021 can am Ryker, you can use mine!!

Hey Robby, and Hillbilly, and Demri. I like what you're doing on these vehicles. Really spending some time on them and showing us the detail work that goes into bringing them back into the real world. I got linked into your world and channel back in the days of the Golden Nugget for Ed. In fact, that was the moment when I started to watch the channels of all the group that banded together to bring the Nugget back into the real world for a real fine man. Now I make the rounds each week to each of the corners.
There were differences in the work you did to the Nugget and the work you're doing to these two vehicles. The Nugget was mostly patching and fixing the rusted panels. The cosmetic work to the Laymo is superficial sheet metal rust work too, but other work is showing the structural work underneath and the patching back together of the structure. When you opened up the Laymo sheet metal for the first time, I was really taken-aback at the amount of rusted metal there was. I knew that that going on in remodeled vehicles, but we all don't spend time deliberately taking old vehicles apart to examine them.
This is the point where I'm saying to myself, "is there something that can be sprayed on to the structure work that has been done to make it more rust protected and then it would not rust from the inside-out". This would be like some kind of treatment that is like that done in the factory to the raw steel panels.
There was a short time where there didn't seem to be much job work like this being done in the shop, except for that vehicle that had a special motor in it, and it was crunched in on the front left corner. I don't remember seeing the finished phase to that repair. Was there a conclusion video to that series? Can you point me to that video?

You could make the Idle up electronic instead with a servo and a rheostat. Then have a toggle in the cab that you can disable it if you forget and are already in the cab.

Man! You guys are busy! Hillbilly got a lot done on the old wrecker. Those new wires should help too. Nothing says "excitement" like a leaky gas tank!! LOL!! Glad you're getting a new one. The limo's body is coming along pretty well and I'm looking forward to seeing it all done, painted and shinny!! 😁

5:52 Milwaukee M12 is great for any of the trades. And in my opinion guys working on projects at home won't need M18 unless you want like a circular saw, vacuum or big impact wrench.
