    Thank you so much for doing this video! I am wrapping my first transom re-glue repair and this was SUPER helpful. I like how you did the sides first (earlier videos you did bottom then sides in one section/session) and then did the bottom as another step. Lesson learned for me is don't rush gluing the next section. I should have let the sides of the tube really set and don't put any glue on the bottom. Do the bottom as a completely different section, essentially a separate gluing session. Thanks again!!

    Do you add any Sika when you drill through the transom plate and screw it?

    • @gashopperinc
      @gashopperinc  9 месяцев назад

      Not sika, I put just a dab of 3m 4200 over the hole before I did the final assembly to seal the wood from any water intrusion.

    I keep watching your videos like 100s time. So valuable! Thanks!
    So I reglued the transom side pocket and bottom floor. However, the 2 corner side from
    The floor didn’t glue properly, probably because I didn’t put enough pressure. Do you just need to reapply glue on the corners as per manufacturer guide or completely redo it all?

    • @gashopperinc

      Just clean up and reglue. No sense on taking apart the freshly glued areas that are holding strong.

    Great video! Is that a long shaft transom on the Mark 1? Please make a video on how to make the new transom. I would like to have a long shaft transom on my Zodiac Futura Mark IIc. It is currently short shaft transom.

    • @gashopperinc
      @gashopperinc  Год назад

      No, still a short shaft. Client just wanted the bottom profiled slightly different. But I do have a video posted already on transom building. It's in the 70 Grand Raid Restoration video 3 part series.

    • @gashopperinc

    Does the bottom of the transom board necessarily need a yoke? In looking into refebishing or building a new transom for a zodiac mark 2 2003. Thanks for the advice and how to. You do a good job.

    • @gashopperinc
      @gashopperinc  11 месяцев назад

      It is preferred so you can get a good seal with the factory fabric hull shape. Unless you are modifying the fabric hull, it's best to rebuild what's already there.

    Super video ! One question: Did you use always a heat gun for removing the old bonding ? I'm a little bit afraid of damage the tubes. I would be happy for a reply.

    • @gashopperinc
      @gashopperinc  Месяц назад

      Yes, but have to be careful because you can cause damage if to hot.

      @berndburkle1764 Месяц назад +1

      @@gashopperinc Thanks a lot for your fast answer ! I will be careful with the heat gun. Well , here in Germany we have with one brand a lot of problems with transoms who rot away in 1-2 years. The problem is the hole for the valve in the transom. The wood is not protected with epoxy or something reliable. Therefore we want to remove these shit transoms (made of trash wood) an replace them with marine plywood and glassed with fabric an epoxy.😊🙋‍♂

      I used either Zodiac's Z7096 or Stabond UK-148 Glue for these repairs, not sure which I used for this boat, but those are the 2 I used to do jobs like these.

    Like your video and back ground music. What brand/type of glue are you using for binding the transom to the pvc compared to the brand/type of glue used on patches and repairs, or reinstalling handles and ore mounts?

    • @gashopperinc
      @gashopperinc  Год назад +1

      Any 2 part glue is sufficient. But we use Zodiac Z7096 for PVC, Z7098 for Hypalon/CSM or Stabond glue for repairs at our shop. It's strong and durable. Never use a 1 part glue, as it will fail.

    Hey this is so good! Thanks so much for doing this.
    I have a surfsea inflatable boat and the side fitting seems to be in rubber but I can’t seem to know… if I prime it with hypalon glue even if the side fittings are pvc or rubber, will it still stick properly? I will be using Polymarine PVC 2 parts

    • @gashopperinc
      @gashopperinc  10 месяцев назад +1

      I would recommend a 2 part PVC glue if the rubber mounts are made of PVC. The only time Hypalon Glue works for rubber, is EPDM rubbers. All other have a a hard sticking with Hypalon Glue.

    Do you have some advice if my transom came loose but doesnt have a reaal flat wooden service abynoor. The wooden transom has some little varnish chunks broken of from the wood.How many layers of gleu do you use?

    • @gashopperinc
      @gashopperinc  11 месяцев назад

      If the transom is damaged in any way, I would suggest replacing it. Reason for it, any questionable areas glue may not stick, or just come away. Minimum 2 layers of glue, sometimes 3, depending on the manufacturer directions.

    • @gashopperinc

      The glues used are specialized glues. Can't buy them from any hardware store or Amazon. Can only get from inflatable boat shops that repair and sell the proper supplies. You'll want to search for and use Zodiac, Stabond or Weaver 2 part glues if doing any of these repairs.
      We also sell them on our website!!!

    Would Coosa board work for a transom on an inflatable boat? I mean, would there be any problem with the adhesive not adhering?

    • @gashopperinc
      @gashopperinc  2 месяца назад +1

      Coose board is even better. If you have access to that, I would be using that. But since there is limited to no access to that here, or else we would be using that.

    • @michiganmagneto
      @michiganmagneto 2 месяца назад +1

      @gashopperinc it's pricey, but I'm going to look into it. I can still get a few more seasons out of this transom before I get really concerned. And since I can't get a hold of the company that made this inflatable boat, it's a toyo, and order a transom I have to make my own.

    • @gashopperinc
      @gashopperinc  2 месяца назад +1

      Sometimes, the transoms you make are better than the manufacturers. We find out that the ones we make here surpass most manufacturers' pre-existing designs.
