Any chance you can review the Forte GT manual transmission model? The manual transmission should be good, but I don't know about the turbo. Why not a civic Si? because I'm cheap and don't want to spend extra money if I don't have to and Toyota Corolla no longer has a manual transmission.

My dad got a new 2019 Kia Forte FE a few years ago - absolute base model, with the regular 2.0L naturally-aspirated port injected engine (same as this one), and a 6 speed manual, for maybe about $17k. He said that even if he only gets the warranty period out of it (10 years) that he'll be happy cause of just how much car for the money it is.
Your dad is a smart man. We all know Corollas/Civics are great and they're several thousand dollars more expensive than a new Kia Forte. Not only is the Corolla MSRP higher, Corollas also have markups and accessories which people are happy to pay for since Corollas are in such extremely high demand. My point is, Corollas are expensive nowadays! So no harm in purchasing a cheap new Forte!
They are reasonably good cars. I wouldn’t buy a Toyota because of the Toyota premium. A 2015 Kia Rio is $4,500 and a 2015 Toyota is $10,000. A Toyota will last 25% longer than a Kia for double the price.
Just got one (10 years, sedan and 133k) as a winter beater (in Salt Country). So far so good. Mileage is not as great as I thought it would be, but it is also zippier than I thought it would be.
I rented a 2023 Kia and was surprised how well it was made and ran, but I purchased a Mazda3 instead. The Mazda was quieter and fit me better. I didn’t notice anything negative about the Kia and it was $3000 less than the Mazda.
I have a 19’ LXS bought new my first car. Now I have 69k miles on it and it’s been excellent literally no problems, I’m honesty shocked and impressed at the Kia and would buy again just want a faster car for my second car
You can find the full post here, Our Chevy Blazer EV has 23 problems after only 2 months, but the headline does a pretty bang-up job of summarizing the unfortunate situation. In short, the car erupted with error messages during a drive from Los Angeles to San Diego. When they took it to a dealer, they received "the single longest list of major faults we at Edmunds have ever seen on a new car." Edmunds includes the entirety of its list in its post along with a full rundown of what happened.
Dude let me mention this. I purchased a brand new 2024 trax in August with 7 miles not even a day of owning it and at 60 miles the car wouldn't turn on anymore. Got my money back and purchased a new Kia forte.. still running strong at 5k miles vs that Chevy trax
@@SnipetsofTimeseriously?? You have 5k miles....thats literally nothing....ive seen a lot of kias blow their motors with lower milage ..under 100k .and they were maintained..the owners had to fight to get a new motor..
I’m very happy with this Kia. It’s been good. I wish I would’ve kept the Chevy but I lost my confidence in the brand although I still own my 2021 Camaro and runs like a bull
I have this same car, 2020, 103k miles, great car! I have a friend who has a 2021 with 220k miles! Original engine and transmission just like mine! Very reliable car
I rented an Optima of that year and thought it was a great car. I like it better than the Camary. It was more comfortable than the Camry I rented prior. The Camary sits too low. I had to raise my seat to make it easier to exit but, the rearview mirror obstructed my vision. I'm 6' tall. CONSUMER REPORTS mentions the ingress and egress was a challenge. The 2023 Camary has the same issues. Since I was in Cali, the rental car company only had Chargers and Camarys so I reluctantly chose a Camary because of better gas mileage. Keep up the good work, Scotty.
Many Toyota and Honda models have increased their prices significantly over the years. Rent & foods are also a lot more expensive. So there's definitely a market for affordable cars!
@@Bobo-t5uNah. Nissan CVT issues were fixed awhile back, and as for the engine and the rest of the car, Nissan is much more solid built than Kia. Kia has hits and misses on pretty much every component of the car.
@@mrgurulittle7000 The Kia Boyz will break into your Kia no matter what. Many places are no longer insuring them. Nissan never fixed their CVT issues their latest class action lawsuit goes up to 2019 2017-2018 Nissan Altima 2018-2019 Nissan Sentra 2018-2019 Nissan Versa 2018-2019 Nissan Versa Note
KIA doesn't have bad transmissions. Yes, their Theta engines had issues, but not transmissions. Now, their CVT (called an IVT in KIA terms) works well. I have a 2020 Rio I bought new. With close to 40,000 miles it has been flawless. Works much better than the CVTs I had in my previous two Hondas.
how many miles do you have on it now. I bought my kia rio 14 months ago and have abour 20,100 miles on it and so far its been great. Will probably do a transmission fluid change around 30,000 but im curious how your is treating you now
@@apieceofcrap8794 I just crossed 40,400 mikes (as of May 22, 2024). Absolutely no issues. My Kia service rep said don't worry about a fluid change until 60,000 miles. I was planning around 50,000. Let me know how much the fluid change costs.
Lady that runs shipping dept. At work has a 2005 hyundia with 250k on it. Never had any problems. So maybe people don't maintain the cars they own and gives companies bad p.r.
Wife just bought a new kia forte gt line for $26k. She absolutely loves it and it gets 39 mph. It's her 50 mile per day work commute vehicle. Can't buy anything new that cheap that gets u from point a to point b.
I totaled my Chevy Cobalt in an accident in early 2021. "Found" a car almost identical to it two days later at a local Kia dealership 15 miles away. I asked a friend to drop me off there the following morning on his way to work. When I got to the dealership, I was crushed to find out that the car I was there to hopefully buy had been sold the previous afternoon. Because it was minus 15 degrees that day, I ended up driving off the lot in a new (leftover) 2020 Rio. 45k miles later, I still wish I'd had the opportunity to look at other vehicles at different dealerships, but it's been a reliable ride and consistently averages 40mpg.
I have the 2023 Forte LXS. Great car. I bought used at 22k miles. It still had the Kumho stock tires, but since I bought some Continental all seasons, the handling is sooo much better.
I drive a 24 Camry LE the 4 cylinder version . But the place I work gives me a Kia K5 the non-turbo version to drive for business trips. I can tell you the K5 has much more refined cabin. The engine is much more responsive, and has more comfortable driver seat.
@@WallyBoots nope...not as only mine..i wouldnt either . I’m not a fan of Kia or Hyundai but my wife and I rented an Elantra when we went to Vegas last year. We drove it to the Grand Canyon and I was shocked the thing got 50 mpg and it was just a base model, not a hybrid. And the interior and ride quality was a lot better than I expected. It seemed solidly built with no rattles or anything and a nice, quiet ride. Dare I say this but I liked it.
@@maga4813 He's not trolling. Many places are no longer insuring Kia/Hyundai because the 'Kia Boyz' break into them and steal them with just a screwdriver. Big scandal because they have no immobilizers. So even the cars with push button start get broken into even if they can't steal them.
Maybe you should try listening to anything he actually said. It’s a decent car in the SHORT TERM. Pretty much the same thing he’s always said. This is really too much subtlety for you? Car… GOOD. Car… BAD. Amazing how dullards manage to hear every 5th word and edit it into what they wanted to hear.
I recently bought a 2013 Kia Forte to replace a 2019 Cruze that was totaled by a deer .( GM Quality ?) The difference in overall quality is like night and day ,the older Kia is light years ahead of my previous Chevy in comfort size and overall build tolerence. No i am not biased ,i actually retired from the plant that built the Cruze just before they closed it so they could import more Korean made cars. The Kia has 109k miles runs perfectly and as you point out half the price of a Toyota and the Kia is much better on gas mileage ,noy quite as good as the Cruze but is a bigger car
Not to mention most people sell their car after 15 to 20 years anyway most Toyotas don't last that long lol. For a cheap reliable ride Kia and Hyundai are good cars and they are actually adorable plus you can still get them with automatic transmissions even full size SUVs that you would pay double for from Toyota Honda or Subaru.
I like having manual seat adjustment. Got it in my Tundra but have the electric ones in my 4Runner which I don’t like as well. Sometimes the old ways are the best.
I have a 2012 fusion and I have to say the power seats are flawless. I have a hard time finding the perfect seating setting in most cars (power or manual) but this one is S tier. One of the reasons I’ve kept it, the leather seats have held up well and they’re very comfortable.
I test drove a 2020, felt like a Euro car in solidity and handling (was replacing a 2006 330i). Ultimately went with Ioniq plug-in but this car is solid
Scotty in Europe most ppl don't drive that much distances so most ppl have rather small or medium cars with small engines. Big engines dissapear because all governments taxe them too much. I my self bought a small Kia Picanto, 3 cyl with 999 cc engine, second hand for about 4000 e , y 2012 with almost 200.000 km and it runs very good and economic too. Average about 4,5 l cons /100 km. Went several times on holidays no problems at all, good brakes, heating, airco no turbo only 55 kw and as speed limits are quite strict in Belgium it is very satisfactory for me. Really had no expenses so far. Maybe in the US people need to shift to more modest cars that are more economic ...
It gets you from point A to point B. That’s all the younger folks seem to care about today, generally speaking. I guess we’ll never have any good styling again in any car. I miss great styling. If the engines and transmissions last for years, I can overlook the lack of style. If not, what’s the point?
Kia has come a long way! The newer ones are actually quite nice and they can last at least 200k if you keep up on maintenance. We want rented a brand new Toyota Camry the had around 20,000 Mi on it. That thing had a bunch of different error messages popping up when you would go into the information on the dashboard. It had stuff wrong with the steering system and a couple other things. You can have problems with any car you buy. You just have to make sure and take care of those issues when they pop up and then you can make most cars last a long time.
That's why I buy Mazdas. More fun than Toyota (and probably as reliable, if not more reliable), definitely more reliable than Kia, and about as good on gas with better features, styling, looks, and upscale interiors than both Toyota + Kia combined. To me, Mazda 3s are the perfect blend with great added benefits at a cost I find reasonable. I wouldn't trade my new '24 top-trim Mazda 3 (manual) for any Kia or Toyota on the market.
Even 30 years ago they were still very reliable with a standard transmission. I had a 6 to 6 for five years and it didn’t give me any problems whatsoever.
@@arditsadiku8474 Yep!! Had 2 gen-3s, a 2014 GS and a 2015 GT. So nice. As a matter of fact, quality has gone down slightly in the 4th gen, but overall, I'm satisfied!
You love Toyotas that’s for sure. I am not really sure Toyota is all that. I’ve had a 2010 matrix where shortly after the 3 year warranty, air conditioning broke, dvd player broke. They wouldn’t give me a break as a Toyota customer, they said basically, too bad we can’t do anything. You are on your own, they don’t care, « reliable vehicle or not «
Yeah, Toyota fucked me over twice. I'll never buy another one again, I bought my first Kia a couple of years ago after the transmission crapped out in my 2016 Corolla. And it's been an amazing vehicle
Let me introduce you to ford.😂 My fusion had more problems 0-60000 miles. Almost problem free from 60000-140000 miles where it's at now. So once you replace all the bad quality control parts it's fine.
Civilian secretary at Randolph AFB in San Antonio bought a Hyundai when they first came out. After ten years of absolutely ignoring the oil and other fluids the engine blew at 100,000 miles. She junked it and bought a new one for almost the same price. She was a happy camper with the setup!
I bought a 2021 Kia Forte GT Line (2.0-liter engine with the ICVT) with 44.000 miles on it. I average 38.4 MPG city & highway. And it runs like a scalded dog! Quiet and smooth with sweet handling for an economy car. If it lasts until 100,000 miles when the warranty runs out, and I see no reason it won't, I'll be more satisfied with it.
My niece got into an accident few weeks ago where the other driver was at fault. My nieces vehicle was a 2013 Kia Optima and it was adjusted to be a total loss by the insurance company. My niece got a 2024 Kia Forte and I was quite impressed with it.
Kias and Hyundais are popular in Saudi Arabia, for some reason the Elantras last long and handle the scorching heat. But their new prices are ridiculously high, high as a Toyota, if not more.
I bought a 2019 kia forte as soon as it came out. I went on a 2,000 miles road trip with it after few months of owning it. I drove it around a lot. I owned it for 5 years and have about 65,000 miles on it now. I had some minor issues with it, but its reliable and has a good gas mileage. Mine had some issues with electrical cords and engine didnt turn on, but that was fixed easily. I also have an issue with my center screen - it has some type of an air bubble inside, but I can still see my screen no problem and didnt fix it yet because i was lazy. Its overall a low maintenance car and saves money. I tried driving an $55,000 SUV inbetween, but everything was so expensive and ended up selling it back. More expensive on gas, insurance, registration, double the car loan payment, need hand car wash, and etc. Im done with my kia forte's payments now and im absolutely glad I didnt end up keeping the expensive SUV.
My 2020 Forte has been super reliable and the CVT is its best feature! It effortlessly delivers 40mpg combined fuel economy without a turbo and GDI and its way better value than Japanese compacts, HOWEVER the rear torsion beam is extremely stiff and I curse the car whenever the road is bumpy. 😡
amazing how even Kilmer has so many dullards who follow him! 😂😂. Goes to show, you can even have Kilmer yelling at them, but nothing penetrates their thick skulls.
I had a Kia Forte 2020 lxs model all 4 car widows stopped working within a month of buying it brand new. Had the doors motor assembly replaced on all of them it was a good thing it was under warranty or would of cost me over $1000.00 to fix. Traded it in the next year for a Honda.
I bought 3 Hyundai Accent 1.6L turbo diesel cars with actual automatic transmissions, not CVT. They are zippy AF with the turbo diesel. I had my personal one tuned also with Borla exhaust, remapped, EGR commanded to never open which boosted torque from 159 ft pound wheel torque to 212 ft pound wheel torque in a super light car. After tuning it still gets 40mpg and drives mostly like stock unless you hammer it because I left the intake side stock. I'd buy another one for use when I'm in the USA but they will never sell them. Interior is basically like the Kia there, except I added custom leather seats with extra cushion to combat small car ride and my wife is vertically challenged anyway. Biggest problem is getting the wife out of my car and into one of our Toyotas, which we also love. Fortuner and Hilux.
Took everything Scotty had to say something nice about this Kia. He missed the fact that the 2.0 engine is port fueled which is a plus, even he admits loathing DI engines. He also missed the hydraulic struts for the hood, which he mentions when reviewing other cars with prop rods. My ‘21 Soul has the 6 speed manual, so I missed the joy of the IVT trans (thank God).
amazing how even Kilmer has so many dullards who follow him! 😂😂. Goes to show, you can even have Kilmer yelling at them, but nothing penetrates their thick skulls.
And he didn’t point out or mention if you consider getting a Forte for $19k be warned some auto insurance companies will not accept your policy due to high rate car theft on Kia’s and Hyundai’s.
@@morebeer7673 You haven't heard of the Kia Boyz and the Hyundai/Kia scandal of no immobilizers? basically they can break in and steal it with just a screwdriver. They take them on joyrides. Very common
Hello. I also have a 2016 Forte. Got a little over 110,000 on mine. Have you had to do anything major so far with yours? All I've done is the regular oil changes, break pads, air filters and tires. I DID recently do a radiator flush but aside from all those nothing major and, like yours, it runs like a top.
If that kind of transmition is problematic, buy Kia with manual one. In Europe Kia gives 7 years of warranty or ~112k miles (180k km), and two years on spare parts. They have been doing this for a while now. It's not Toyota quality, but it's pretty good, and probably beats Toyota in value for money segment. Btw France tried to impose additional taxes on South Korean cars (Hyundai and Kia at least), because they admitted they can't compete with them (Allegedly Hyundai/Kia sell cars at loss, and that may be true. E.g. this is old info but I doubt much has changed, 15 years ago VW was making around 180 € profit / car on average.).
I bought me a 2010 kia forte in 2013 with 60k miles. It finally gave out on me 2 years ago at 250k miles! Never really had issues with it until it was actually giving out on me.. and it was a super basic model, had to literally roll windows down 😅
When they sell the car they boast a 7 year warranty. When the customer finds faults they refuse to fix the part. My speedo is inaccurate by 10%. I approached both National Capital Motors (The dealer) and Kia (the manufacturer) and both refused to replace or repair the inaccurate speedo.
I passed my driving test in a rental 2023 KIA forte. After renting the KIA forte I rented many cars this past summer. Camry, Corolla, CX-3, CX-5, Elantra and honestly the Forte EX was the best car I drove. It was quiet, super smooth handling, VERY zippy and the “Sport” mode really packed a punch for a small car. Oh and the LKA (lane keep assist) was a full blown self-driving car. It blew our minds how effective and better it was than the toyota. God damnit, I guess I have to buy one now…
Got a 2024 Kia went out of my way to get a manual. I’m out on cvts. Don’t care if I end up replacing a turbo, it’s not only something I can do, but is also 100k warranty on as much as I can, electronics etc cuz these cars now have so many electronics
I remember when my brakes failed in my 82 Escort. I was glad for my hand operated e brake. I couldn’t imagine an electric e brake. What good would that have done?
Traded my honda fit for a kia forte back in 2019, both manual transmission. The fit had the drive shaft crack in traffic, lucky i could coast to a gas station. So far the car has been flawless, but I put less than 8k a year on my cars. It is much better on the highway than the fit, but the fit was a 5 speed, the forte is 6 speed. I admit the main reason I picked the forte was the manual transmission. I couldn't find anything but cvt.
Electric parking breaks are dangerous because of my own experience back in the 70s when break lines rusted out on me and I didn't have any breaks and I got home by using the emergency break and that happened twice. How can you do that with an electric break
Other issue with Kia, Hyundai and more are the sealed transmissions. I've heard that changing the transmission fluid in a sealed unit can be a complicated task even for an experienced mechanic. Do you think that would help extend the life of a sealed transmisson on a Hyundai or Kia?
I have a 2012 Kia Forte Ex that needs a transmission, and while that undoubtedly will come as no surprise to you, Scotty, it might surprise you to know that my car doesn’t have 0 - 100k on the odometer, 150k, or even 200k. It has 373k. I bought it used in 2015 with 59k.
New Corollas have a 23k starting price including the mandatory $1095 delivery fee that everyone must pay. So your 21k figure is false. Also here in Dallas, new Corollas are still marked up over MSRP due to extremely high demand
@@jimkelly1613 Kind of. They have a "launch gear", that reduces wear and tear greatly and makes for a smoother start off the line. But yeah, they cost a lot more than 21K.
Smart doesn’t give better gas mileage. It just switches from Normal and Sport. Also, it doesn't state what Sport does over Normal. I guess louder cabin engine noise? A much better car compared to old. It is like 2x the car I had which was the Hyundai Accent 2002 1.6L. A real transmission, no power loss, 30 buff horses, much better tires, and much better insulation. I wished they had simply engine swapped the Accent instead of tossing way it away.
I think Scotty had a customer with a Kia that was a few years old and it was burning a quart of oil every 1500 miles. The dealer told them that was acceptable under the warranty. Not sure what engine or model that was. 🤔

The charger is VERY POWERFUL
I have the Car and I am getting 43 miles to the gallon. I only have 7000 miles so far. No problems We enjoy it.
Many Toyota and Honda models have increased their prices significantly over the years. Rent & foods are also a lot more expensive.

Their DCT's had a ton of problems, even the newer 'wet' dual clutches.
how many miles do you have on it now. I bought my kia rio 14 months ago and have abour 20,100 miles on it and so far its been great. Will probably do a transmission fluid change around 30,000 but im curious how your is treating you now

And you’ll probably never get pulled over.
I rented one and drove from Charlotte NC to Nashville Tn and got over 40mpg in normal mode. I actually liked .
I have the 2023 Forte LXS. Great car. I bought used at 22k miles. It still had the Kumho stock tires, but since I bought some Continental all seasons, the handling is sooo much better.
Scotty mentioned a good point. Even cheaper cars can be good with manual transmission.
I drive a 24 Camry LE the 4 cylinder version . But the place I work gives me a Kia K5 the non-turbo version to drive for business trips. I can tell you the K5 has much more refined cabin. The engine is much more responsive, and has more comfortable driver seat.

I am in no way a fan of KIA or Hyundai. Had a rental Kia and its CVT was far better than Toyota’s in terms of how it operates.
My 2015 Forte5 has been a great car, zero repairs at just under 100k. After 8 years, still under warranty.
I have 175000 on my 2013 soul. No major issues yet.

I think Scotty had a customer with a Kia that was a few years old and it was burning a quart of oil every 1500 miles. The dealer told them that was acceptable under the warranty. Not sure what engine or model that was. 🤔
