    Monk is streaming now on Peacock: pck.tv/3JuixBg
    From Season 8, Episode 10, "Mr. Monk and Sharona": When Sharona (Bitty Schram) returns to San Francisco to handle legal issues related to an uncle's death, Monk (Tony Shalhoub) suspects foul play and is torn between the differing styles of Sharona and Natalie (Traylor Howard). Jack Wagner guest stars.

    Monk Synopsis: Adrian Monk (Emmy®-winner Tony Shalhoub) was once a rising star with the San Francisco Police Department, legendary for using unconventional means to solve the department's most baffling cases. But after the tragic and still-unsolved murder of his wife, Trudy, the devastated Monk becomes obsessive-compulsive. His psychological disorder has caused him to develop an abnormal fear of virtually everything: germs, heights, crowds... even milk. Monk's condition costs him his job, but he's back as a police consultant despite the unique challenges he encounters in his everyday life. These challenges lead Monk to hire a personal nurse, Sharona Fleming (Bitty Schram), who is always there to offer her assistance, even with the simplest of tasks (like organizing his sock drawer). Her less-than-subtle prodding keeps the "defective detective" on track in his investigations, as well as in his efforts to convince Captain Stottlemeyer (Ted Levine) to allow him to return to the force.

      @@jjryan1352 You have a point. She also dated Kenny (the deputy mayor?) because of his influence. But with the mobster, wasn't she convinced, perhaps because she wanted to be, that the guy wasn't involved in the "evil" things the mob was in? When she learned that he was, she didn't want anything to do with him. So it still doesn't seem like she's the type to turn a blind eye to murder (moreso ask Monk to do the same) just so she can benefit.

    I always preferred Sharona.
    She was selfish, but ultimately did the right thing, just like Monk. She was tough and had all the backbone Monk couldn't during tough situations-and more importantly, she could force Monk back on the right track with the firmness someone like him needed.
    No offense to Natalie, but Sharona was also smarter. Natalie tends to get everyone in trouble out of obliviousness, and I always found that as frustrating as Randy's bits.

    • @nnr997
      @nnr997 6 месяцев назад +5

      Agree with everything, except that Sharona was "selfish". She chose to leave her job as an RN to work for less money as a Practical Nurse, on call 24/7, sacrificing her ability to even take vacations, all to care for and rehabilitate a man who was at rock bottom after losing his wife. She devoted her days and nights to reforming him from a completely dysfunctional catatonic state to being a useful contributor to society as a consultant to the SFPD, on the road to reinstatement; and she also selflessly devoted her resources - she paid for all of Monk's expenses out of her own pocket, and *never asked for reimbursement* (unlike Natalie, who complained about this immediately). All the while, raising and caring for a child by herself. She put her life on the line to save Adrian in _Mr. Monk Goes To The Theater,_ laid down her pride by letting him win an arm-wrestling match with her in _Mr. Monk And The Paperboy._ Time and time again, she defends him against naysayers, advocates for him, and always protects him without any regard at all for what people think of her.
      The amount of selfless sacrifices Sharona made is more than many people can lay to claim. She has strong *self-respect,* which is not the same as being selfish. She is very caring, supportive, and empathetic; but her line in the sand is that she doesn't let anyone use, disrespect, or mistreat her. Ever.
      Even in this episode, the money she was seeking to procure was not for her. It was for her son.

      @@nnr997 Yes! Yes!! YES!!! Thank you so more for cleansing Sharona's name! It seems like everyone is against Sharona these days. One thing Sharona is, is not selfish. She literally helped Adrian to be where he is today. It's okay to dislike a character, but saying many untrue things makes me think that you haven't watched the show.

      @@restmyloves By no means at all is everyone is against her, Sharona has a very large and solid fanbase from what I've seen. However, you are absolutely correct in that there is a small and vocal throng of critics whose commentary strongly leads me to believe that they watched this show with their eyes shut, because they invariably criticise Sharona for things that Natalie does regularly and often to a worse degree. Couldn't agree with you more there. 👍

      @@nnr997 Eh. I may be overexaggerating, but I have seem more Sharona haters than fans which is why I said that statement, but I'm glad to be proved wrong. And thanks for agreeing with me on my latter statements.
      I know it has been years since the show Monk ended, and it have been even longer years since Sharona's disparture, but I truly missed her being apart of the show. Bitty acted Sharona so well, and the chemistry Adrian and Sharona had will never, ever be recreated again on the show with somebody else.
