    Absolutely love the editing where you had started filling it with distilled water before removing the little annoying tip/plug thing from the filling bottle. 😂
    Just used the exact same bottle an hour ago to fill and clean out a new rad, and had the same issue. 🙌🏾
    Btw. Am about to build my first loop today. Would it make sense to do this a couple of times with distilled water in the new build? Flush it through. I already cleaned out the rad.

    I am about to build a water cooling system and thank you Ed for showing how to clean and fill the pump

  • @chrisrnz
    @chrisrnz 4 года назад +8

    This method should really only be used if you're going to put the exact same type of coolant back in afterwards.
    It will flush coolant from the visible parts of the loop *only* and using coolant from a different manufacturer or using a different type is inherently risky for loop longevity. If you're changing brands or going from solid/opaque to clear, a proper tear down and clean is pretty much mandatory. Also, if you're going to use distilled water only, it's still recommended to add some sort of biocide or growth inhibitor to the coolant. Mossy forests are nice - mossy cooling loops aren't.
    The pump o-rings, fitting o-rings and jet plate (as Ed pointed out) will hold onto a ton of coolant from the last setup - they need to be cleaned properly, too.
    P.S. CPU power is called EPS, not EPC.

    You should tilt the system about to get as much coolant out as possible. Shouldn't take that much water to clear it out. If you are changing colour, you should clean the loop with Mayhems blitz pt2, which would properly clean the system without the need to take it apart. It would still be preferential to take it apart and clean everything properly as pastel coolant especially can work it's way into all sorts of places.

    If you forgot a drain valve or don't have one for whatever reason, and have soft tubing, you can remove a part like the radiator or gpu (if you like living on the edge). Then hold the part over a bucket and undo a fitting carefully, then use that as your drain valve.

But after about a month now I want to clean it, noticing everyone talking about having a drain valve now. Oops! I’m going to do a 3 way splitter, all male, then attach a drain valve at the lowest point of the loop. I’ve drained it a few times already without a drain valve, it isn’t hard, just takes a lot more time.
