Great video! I have a 69 amx that I am restoring. It runs and has the original tank on it. I am running into the issue of the tank not filling past 5 gallons. Ive ran it out of gas and can only put 5 gallons in before it starts to spill back out. I’ve heard the vent/breather is the problem, could this be what is preventing me from filling my tank?

Hello yes definitely a vent issue most likely I believe it is close to where you fill the tank in the rear and I’m pretty sure it vents up into the trunk which is bizarre. But should find it in the trunk towards the very rear of the car. Should be clear to blow through. Good luck.

I'm having a similar problem with my 1972 hornet. installed an aftermarket sending unit, re installed tank, filled with gas, now nothing, fuel gauge wont even move. i checked the unit first before installing by going under car, plugging the unit up to the sending wire, held it to ground, lifted the arm while my brother was in the driver seat and said the fill gauge moved up to full. I'm not sure what i can do other than look for a NOS AMC sending unit.

Hello. Well you checked it prior to installing which is smart. So if your sure the sender didn’t get beat up when you put it in the tank then that part should be good still. As far as an obstruction in the tank not allowing the sender arm to move in unlikely but keep that in mind. I would focus on verifying your power to the sender and the ground. A simple wire from the sender to battery negative terminal will eliminate any poor ground you may be currently connected to. It sounds like a wiring connection issue at your sending unit. Try to ground your power wire & see if your gauge operates with key on. Don’t forget to check those glass fuses also. They are prone to always having poor contact causing intermittent power. One minute it connects then it doesn’t. Make sure there clean & tight. Good luck

Also one thing I forgot but if the sender float has a pinhole in it that will fill up with gas and never allow the float to come off empty
