@@crnkmnky hah yes, true - I just watched the movie yesterday and it was so cute that this 90s moment has actually fit in quite nicely :)) it’s so much deeper than what I expected
Im so glad they added Dan Levy's line about "Just because she's not ready, doesn't mean she doesn't love you." No one should be forced to come out or gaslit in doing so, and Im glad there was that part to address that.
I totally agree that no one should come out until they are ready, however, don't invite your partner to Christmas and ask them to put on a ridiculous, painful charade where your partner's significance to your life is repeatedly being denied just because you want them in your presence. I've had exes who weren't out and we had two separate holidays. One where she was with her family and one for us. I have also been through this bullshit and it's for the birds.
@@dr.pennington1664 I agree to that too, and I have friends who have done separate holidays themselves to respect both sides. Thats why I hope this movie approaches both sides constructively, showing the girlfriend who invited her is in the wrong too while avoiding the situation Ive seen done alot in mainstream media where the person forces the other to come out.
Ok, but the whole "just because she's not ready to come out doesn't mean she doesn't love you"??? Like, are we about to get a movie about coming out that does not involve forcing people out against their will??? I am HERE for it
You should also consider watching a Schitt's Creek if you haven't already (first 5-6 episodes might seem a bit meh, but it gets SO MUCH better). It's not... queer-centric per se, but one of the main characters is, and the entire show goes a very long way to show us what a wonderful world it could be if we all just learn to accept people for who they are, and love them the way they are. Oh, and on top of it, it's hysterically funny.
Sometimes you can find yourself by transitioning from having a crush on Edward Cullen in your teens, to having a crush on Kristen Stewart in your 20s. It really be like that sometimes.
Omg I was like what wtf would Kristen Stewart agree to be in a Christmas movie .... oh I guess she felt that it was moving society forward because it totally is, I’ve never seen a Christmas movie with lesbians
How could a "I didn't tell my parents!" kinda movie bring anybody _forward_ , let alone _moving society forward_ ? What kind of weird concept is _that_ ?
For those ''I'm hiding me'', I present - Not everyone has the emotional tools to show up for you in the ways you need. That doesn't mean they love you any less. *It also doesn't mean you have to stay.* People shouldn't feel bad in their relationship. There is someone more compatible for you if not the person you are currently with. Looking forward to the movie tho.
THANK YOU! I've been the first stop to someone else's coming out tour too many times. While I've never doubted their feelings, maintaining secretive/closeted relationships can be mentally & emotionally taxing, and not everyone has the capability to do it.
Agreed. If your partner isn't ready to be open then they don't have to be forced to, but you also don't have to stay becuase it's mentally and emotionally draining for you also. It brings the feeling of you being something your partner is ashamed of or ashamed of fundamentally being who you or they are. You also shouldn't be emotionally guilted or FORCED to stay with the partner not ready to accept themselves as they are or you as you are. You should be able to walk away if it drains you of any self worth yourself.
An orphan spend christmas alone. So it makes sense inviting your 'orphan' friend so she is not alone and nobody ask why she is spenfing christmas with her family
okay, maybe i'm reaching, but maybe she tried to say "girlfriend"? and either muffled it intentionally, or someone from that family misheard it and it's kind of a running joke in the movie. idk.
I can see her questioning her relationship with her current girlfriend by starting to like Aubrey plaza but then kristens girlfriend does a grand gesture at the end
That actually would be an awesome plot twist, but it's Christmas so the truth will come out, her family will be upset because she didn't tell them, maybe struggle to accept it, come to the understanding that family is the most important thing and everything will turn out slightly soggy peaches and cream. I've seen this same movie probably 10 times if you count both gay and lesbian versions of it. Only once have I even seen the person actually break up with the person who lied to them and lied to their family and asked them to hide the whole time they were there. They still got back together but it was after a period of time and required actual change on the part of the other person, not just a tepid I'm sorry. *sigh*

I just finished watching HAPPIEST SEASON. Great cast, great writing, likable and relatable characters & situations, great acting with funny and heart-breaking at the same time. The last 10-15 minutes of this movie pays off very well. I highly recommend this movie. It’s NOT JUST a Christmas movie about lesbians-it’s MORE THAN THAT. It’s about family, being true to one’s authentic self, how lies/deceit destroys relationships rather than hold them together, it’s about unconditional love. ‘Coz love is love is love is love...
