Side note:
Any of you that are old enough to remember when Nirvana first started the teens at that time gravitated towards them in the same way.
There's a reason for his level of understanding on Billie & Finneas's impact.
Thankful my generation still has Dave Grohl. He's wonderful. His mom still tours with him when she wants. Seriously he's incredible.
I'm old so I don't "get" Billie Ellish's music but I can see what she means to some of today's younger people. My 19 year old is really into her music and feels it. That I absolutely get.
I'm 45, born and raised in Seattle and I can tell you there's something real to her music. Put on headphones, smoke a J and and give an album a good listen. It won't become your new favorite music, but you'll see that her stuff has fucking NOTHING to do with other teenage bullshit that's been going on for the last 20 years.
She actually stands for a lot of dangerous things .
Dave Grohl is a no good either.
The more and more I look into it, I honestly think he may have had something to do with Kurt’s passing…Billie Eilish has let fame and attention from 11 to 13 yr old girls for her songs about taking Xanax , and all kinds of positive stuff, and it has turned her into a philosophical imposter.
Also, look at the dynamic she promotes by being the center of attention.
Her brother writes everything, she’s just told what to sIng and when to sing it.
So more or less, she promotes the “im a woman, so who cares if I don’t write the lyrics or the music, I have the look, and I whisper the lines the way they are meant to be whispered! Also, having that been said, I now get to put down ugly men, I get to have an opinion on everything while actually doing very little and people will worship me like the false idol I am.”
That’s what I call a revolution
@@joelbugzmcgee8439 get your head out of the gutter. How the fuck would Dave have anything to do with Kurt that’s just fucking stupid. So fucking stupid. Right!! Whether you like Billie's music or not, I think it's nice to hear someone speak respectfully about another artist, especially one that is much younger and in a different genre of music. Whether it's pop, rock, hip-hop or anything in-between, if an artist can connect with their fans and make them feel less alone, I think that's something special.
That’s because she’s a real artist. She writes her own music and her own lyrics. Beyoncé is just entertainment. That’s fine. There’s a place for that, but Billie is an artist.
No it's not lol they do it all the time.
@@Charzilian did you poop yourself?

Damn right! I was blown away when I first heard her on my car radio. She and Finneas have something special. I hope they have a long career ahead of them and that they don’t get swallowed up by the corporate machine.
It’s so nice to see such support from a legend like Dave Grohl who has been through it since he was probably Billie’s age too!
That’s why I became a fan of hers she talks to her supporters like she knows them and treats them very well and just the way her and her supporters connect is incredible never seen anything like it before
You should go to a YUNGBLUD show. It’s an even deeper connection.
do you have fake depression too?
I dont care for the vast majority of her songs but I've seen some live clips of her shows and he's totally spot on about the connection thing. It's a real vibe with her and her fans.
I think you can argue that this is just about the case with any musician and their fans at a concert. even some of the most lackluster, untalented artists who completely rely on their production rather than their own personality or talent for their success, have fans that feel as though they truly connect with them and their music at their show. and who’s to say they’re not having a true connection with the music just because it doesn’t appeal to yourself or others? obviously not every artist has this ability, but Billie Eilish is far from the only musical artist who has a true connection with her fans both at and away from her live shows.
@@Natharsus I used to think she was music that capitalized on the same audience as twentyone pilots. The sort of young, dark, and edgy type. But then I listened to her first studio album and I realized how good she truly was. Specifically when I got the the song “i love you” her lyrics hit in such a rare and unique way. Give it a listen if you can
@@Natharsus
I don't know any of Billie Eilish's music. I do know what Grohl is talking about though. You are as wrong as you can possibly be as far as connecting with the audience goes. I've seen so many concerts when I was younger that I can't even remember them all. There's a huge difference between playing a gig where it's a good show, everyone goes home satisfied, and if some one asked, you would say a hell of a show and a show where maybe a few technical difficulties, maybe a late start, not perfect but the band connects with the whole of it's audience on an almost primal level. That's an amazing thing to witness. Watch Queen play Radio Ga Ga at Live Aid and you will get the idea. I haven't seen footage of that concert in 20 years and it still gives me goosebumps. I like Queen. I love a few songs. I bought 1 album of theirs years ago. In my list of favorite bands they probably wouldn't crack the top 20 for me. That connection though is undeniable. Goosebumps dude.

Dave is a legend. He was an incredible drummer and a bit underrated. Listen to the drums on the In Utero Album...I'm surprised his shoulders aren't gone. And then he rose up after losing his friend and bandmate and recorded a full album on his own. Just him. Then he got a band together and has continued to write hit after hit. He's written two books as well. The man has seen it all and then some.
And he's highly highly praising a young girl. To have that happen and have him be so blown away by her especially since she's so young and he's seen so much is AMAZING. I bet you Billie would be absolutely thrilled about this.
While it was all down hill artistically after that first Foo Fighters, he still stands as one of the greats. And he's a stand up guy that supports young musicians.

I absolutely ADORE Billie and Finneas!! If they’re ever on tour within a few hours of home, again, we’ll absolutely go. I may be six decades old, lol, but my heart is young, and beats to family and music 💓
My first introduction to Billie Eilish was "Bury a Friend," and I could tell straight away she was L E G I T. Some of her lyrics are so perfectly poignant. "Hostage," "Lovely," and "When The Party's Over," were absolutely amazing too. I can't understand the hate she gets. Like, I've seen interviews where she talks about why she wears huge clothes, that she was insecure about having big breasts and didn't want to be automatically sexualised, and then I hear people hating on her for wearing big shirts? I haven't kept up with her, but I've seen and loved enough to think she and her brother are both total treasures!
"Why is every pretty girl with a horrible-looking man? I’m not shaming people for their looks, but I am. You give an ugly guy a chance, he thinks he rules the world” this direct quote probably has a lot to do with it, I like her music but I feel like this is a horrible and misleading thing to say while being an influencer. It comes off as she had a bad experience with an ugly guy, who (because he was ugly) she maybe assumed he was also a nice guy (which he ended up not being) and now thinks all ugly guys are the same.
There's a lot of assuming there so I don't hold all that against her but I still think the quotes really ignorant.
She is seen in bad guy on top of a man and in beginning of the frame it suggests that they are having sex because Billy is going up and down on top of him, she was sending mixed messages. Btw she is very talented but this is something that I didn't like about her.
@@B.treveton That IS a shitty quote. Hell, the poor girl is probably coached on what to say to interviewers, in public, etc. Just sounds like more brainwashing of kids to me.
@@ioncewasmikey yeah but I highly doubt she'd be coached to say that, if anything, she was being coached to not say things like that. There a lot of bad quotes from celebrities, doesn't mean they're bad people. But it's still a reason why some might have a problem with her. My issue isn't what she said, it's that she's an influencer who pooled an entire group of people into one bad pile because of one bad experience from one of them. It just strikes me as such a childish thing to do, and I'd say that's probably my biggest gripe with her is that she seems kinda childish. I don't hate her or her music. But I'm also not a fan partially because of that
@@B.treveton When even ugly guys take advantage of you ... 😉
Maybe she first thought about the Beauty and the Beast, where Beauty sees the inner beauty of the Beast. And what about Quasimodo, who's deeply in love with Esmeralda, the beautiful woman that doesn't give this love in return ? Maybe she had empathy for that ugly guy before she knew he was also ugly on the inside
And by the way, why should she waste her time with a guy that doesn't take care of his body, manners and behavior ? Doesn't she deserve better ?
Why should girls, who are told to be beautiful, let guys who don't do the same with themselves take advantage of their body and damage their soul ?
Thank Dave. She's the real deal.
This is the guy who let Lorde sing with Nirvana.

It's crazy how many people don't actually listen to things properly before forming an opinion on them. He doesn't praise her music, talent, or anything like that - he simply comments on the level of connection that her fans have with her, which to be fair, whether you like her or not, does seem to be true
Compared a studio plant to Morrissey.. wow.

Real recognizes Real
I remember being 15 in 1991, in a seattle suburb. A lot of the popular music was very superficial lyrically. Gen X had a lot of dark humor, angst, & real fears. I was sneaking into clubs and going to all ages shows, and events like pain in the grass. We had a special underground scene with love battery & green river & mother love bone & Bam Bam. I had bleach, I'd heard Nirvana had a new drummer.
Then this little trio made a breakthrough that changed the world of music. They appealed to the reality an entire generation was facing, a generation that didn’t have representation in mainstream music. It reached out to the alienated & flipped off the establishment - exactly what rock should do.
All ages can appreciate & create all types of music, but there is a special magic to that which appeals to teens. Humans facing a transition, figuring out who they are, what they want or don't want to be. What they will carry into the world with them. It's rebellion's most beautiful form. Children breaking free to become independent adults. It's painful & often isolating. Music offers connection and hope.
I had Nirvana & gnr & soul asylum, my dad had the doors & zeppelin & hendrix. My 17 year old niece is a big 21 pilots fan, and the one who introduced me to Billie's music. I am a fan. That same vein of youth is being tapped by new people with honest voices reflecting their own generation & it's struggles.
I'm certainly not her target audience, but if you really dislike her (or any music) it's probably because it's not being made for you. Just let it go, let your kids listen to whatever helps them get through a really difficult part of life.
Love you dave we miss the 90s. 🤘
Same with nirvana in the 90s :D This is how it always should be and will forever be. The connection with people through art, this is magic and this is so special, and this is why we can’t live without art.

He's 100% accurate. It's the same thing that happened with Kurt, Eddie, Layne, and Chris back in the 90s. Billie has that. And her audience will be devoted, even when they part ways in listening, to the end of their days.

There aren't alot of bands out there that actually connect with the audience in a palpable way. Dashboard Confessional is like that. The concert isn't fans sitting and watching a band perform, but rather the fans performing with the band to create a truly magical experience. It's the band sending love to the audience and the audience reciprocating that love in a crazy circle. Few bands can pull that off these days.
It’s a real thing because of social media and how integrated Billie is into it. Every single young girl has her shoved in their faces
She’s like the Beatles, or Michael Jackson, the way the audience goes crazy for her, I was gonna throw in Elvis, but it’s not like they think she’s hot or something, she SPEAKS to people, they are literally saying the words “You saved my life!!”
