In your eyes is actually a really depressing song. It’s about him seeing the effects of his partner finding out he cheated but trying to pretend that she doesn’t know and that everything is fine even though they both know the relationship is crumbling
You will not be disappointed if you go back and start with his Trilogy mixtapes and go through the discography. The dude changed the R&B game a decade ago at only 20/21 years old.

You picked up on so much from the first listen, and it just gets even better with every subsequent listen! You’re a prime candidate for XO! I think you’ll love going through his discography from the beginning and hearing how the character and story develop. I promise it’ll be one of the most rewarding musical journeys you’ll go on (plus, XO loves watching first reactions and reliving the experience through others). Great job!
The Weeknd is one of my favourite singers of all time. I’ve been following him since the very very start when nobody knew who he was and I’m so proud of how far he’s come, especially being that we’re both Toronto kids! Haha but I hope you explore more of his stuff because it’s true NOBODY DOES IT LIKE HIM 🔥
Faith is all about giving himself up for drugs to cope from his bad decisions he made in his life and the outro represents being in an ambulance because of drug overdose and the transition to blinding lights just makes it even more awesome.
Drake and The Weeknd are both from Toronto and really both popped off around the same time after Drake posted about him online. They have a bunch of songs together, they collaborated a bunch early on. The Weeknd wrote a lot of songs on Drake's debut album Take Care. Drake's brand is OVO and The Weeknd is XO, if you ever listen to their songs they'll say OVOXO.
I am halfway through your reaction, and you have a new follower...After Hours is my favorite album of 2020, and your reaction and deep dive has been the best so far!!...
So glad for finding this, I'm an XOTWOD fam member, after a year of listening to this, finding someone experiencing it for the first time brings back the feeling of hearing this album the first time last year 😭😍
Your reaction at 14:19 was one of the most wholesome I’ve seen, you really felt that note and so did I but really enjoyed your reaction 👍🏾may peace be with you
You HAVE to check out the rest of his discography. Literally every project ever released is ALWAYS, written and/or flows like a book. He is absolutely AMAZING. Abel is sooooo mind numbingly goooood!!!!!
pleaseeee react to all of his discography. It’s cinematic, and such great lyricism throughout. Plus the production is amazing. Start off with House of Balloons
every song in this album and every album of his artwork is a masterpiece. the production of until i bleed out is the most underrated of this album. the sounds and synths time perfectly with the story of the song and his vocals. beautifully done.
My favorite part of the album is that when he realizes that it’s finally over and done with in Until I Bleed Out it loops back on itself to Alone Again. It repeats the cycle. He’s Alone Again, and now it’s Too Late to save their relationship because he was the Hardest to Love, and so on..... This album is a cycle of emotion and madness much like the 1985 movie also titled After Hours
Yesss I've been waiting for this! 🖤🔥 After Hours will take you on an emotional musical journey. You will need to regroup after you listen and crave to dive back in. Welcome to the XO fam!
Great reaction!!🙏🏻✨ XO he also has a deluxe version of it with 3 more songs , Abel used to be homeless , you’ll def hear it in his songs , you should start from the beginning , the mixtapes house of balloons , thursday & echoes of silence
You mentioned you like dark, moody music, you HAVE to check out trilogy eventually. His best work in my opinion, like you I love dark music and it's all over that album
Subscribed after this reaction ! I love how you pay attention not only to the music but the lyrics!!! Which to me are so important and really makes the artist *chef kiss*
You have to listen to the 3 deluxe tracks 'Nothing Compares' 'Missed You' and 'Final Lullaby' they are the true ending to the album in my opinion and are just overall amazing.
I love that you reacted to this album! The Weeknd has definitely grown as an artist. He has always been great but throughout the years his music has matured! Please react to some more of The Weeknd! Will for sure be back! XO! 🖤✨
Hi Michael :) Loved your reaction and comments. Thanks for taking the time and sharing. A quick rundown of Abel’s backstory: He grew up in Toronto in an Ethiopian immigrant family. His dad left when he was still little, like around 2 I think. I think he may have felt like an outsider growing up, he left school and home around age 16 kind of bed hopping from house to house where he could find a roof over his head. It’s often said he was homeless, I’m not sure if he spent time living on the street. He fell into a lifestyle of heavy drug use. He released House of Balloons (the first mix tape) in 2012 I think. He doesn’t do many interviews and doesn’t speak much on his personal life but my understanding from his music and what I’ve read about him (and some psychology 101) is that his emotional pain comes from his dad leaving and an early relationship that meant a lot to him not working out. There are references to all these things in the three mixed tapes (called Triology
(Called Trilogy when re-released as all three together). Really excited to see your reactions to his other work (especially the mixed tapes, my dear melancholy and my favourite Kiss Land). The atmosphere, honesty and emotion of his work is exceptional.
okay Abel is my favorite artist of all time, I could talk about him forever, you have to look into his background in order to understand his music. He uses production and his vocals to translate his pain and his emotion, and he manipulates the listener to delve into his psyche. His music is intoxicating, pun intended.
Blinding lights is talking about how he is in an ambulance “in the back of a flashing car” as the song “faith” was leading in to. The lyrics “I can’t sleep until I feel your touch” is saying how he can’t die from an overdose until he feels this girl’s touch.
How it is broken down on the vinyl is also so perfect...Alone Again to Scared to Live, Snowchild to Faith, Blinding Lights to Save Your Tears, and Repeat after Me to Til I Bleed Out...❤️❤️❤️
I love all of his eras and albums so much. I love the ride he’s gone on, and the whole storyline of “after hours” like the album is perfectly composed as if you’re watching a movie but he’s like....singing the movie lol. It makes me sad that some og fans didn’t like his “starboy” album cuz it was really poppy and not his usual moody songs about sex but that album has sooo many good songs, I think you’d like it if you listened to it. It gives me major Michael Jackson dance pop vibes as does this album cuz of the 80s inspired songs. He’s genuinely a very talented artist!
The Album Started with Depressing Songs then at the middle it became happy with Blinding Lights, In Your Eyes and Save your Tears. Then finished it with Depressing Songs. Then after weeks Able dropped extra 3 songs. This shows how The character here can't get closure or can't move on that's how Abel Showed us he made us feel like it's us who are in his position.
This is a night album through and through. I had some best inspiration moment going photographing night city lights with this album in earphones. It made me literally high
Great reaction man! I love how you were able to catch onto many of the aspects even without much knowledge of his past and such. I highly recommend going back to his House Of Balloons era as it would be a journey to say the least.
*I remember listening to him when he first emerged. Back when no one knew what he even looked like. Then he finally made an appearance. But he was either drunk but nine times out of ten, he was high asf. And though his voice was good, it wasn’t as good as he could’ve been at that point in time. The drugs really took a toll on him. This album was solid from top to bottom and he sounded great! Some of the best music he’s ever done. And his live performances really show his star power. This could’ve easily been album of the year, but of course the Grammy board is some bs*
It's been a year full of listening to the album and and lots of reactions of it. This specific reaction Michael is by far the best. You really got into the music and the lyrics. You should listen also to other albums of The Weeknd, you won't regret it. PS: His music videos have stories to tell, especially from After Hours, you need to watch a lot of times maybe to understand.
Abel is a storyteller...When you dwell into his 2011 mixtapes and then KISS LAND, man the storyline is insane. Keeping notifications on cause I know your reaction to those projects will be great
Theres 3 extra tracks on the deluxe edition, some people are 50/50 about them but I love them personally, you should check those out. They broke me. Great reaction, been waiting for this one so thank you! Love all your videos! X
Great reaction man! loved how you broke down the album, made me see it in a few ways I haven't before (and I've been listening to it for a year lmao). Saw a couple comments similar, but would love to see you do reactions to the rest of his discography, especially the mixtapes on Trilogy! think you'd love them
A great album.....but I agree with you Save your tears ...is an absolute classic.....it as an almost hypnotic effect on me .....I can't stop playing it,....its so addictive,..and a genuine timeless gem
He released 3 bonus tracks in a deluxe edition of the album, nothing compares, missed you, and final lullaby. they all just as good and deserve spots on the album, especially the first one, you should react to them
Blinding lights is very eighties and if you listen to A-Ha take on me you understand:). So nice to see which effect he has on you, since some months I’m completely addicted to The Weeknd☺️ Welcome to the club!
subscribed, looking forward to reliving these weeknd album first reactions 🙏🏼 p.s. you should def start from trilogy (first official album combing the 3 mixtapes) up to his most recent before after hours to see how great the development is 👏🏼
Just circled back to this reaction Really enjoyed your insight and perspective Testament to you that not even being as familiar with Abel and his history you dissected and analyzed things so well and picked up on a lot. Full confession After Hours is my second favorite album of all time behind Thriller To me it is nearly flawless and so dear to my heart. Great reaction , react to the 3 bonus tracks : Track 15: Nothing Compares Track 16: Missed You Track 17: Final Lullaby It completely closes the chapter n they r excellent songs
idk if anyone's suggested this already, they probably have lol, but u should react to his live vevo performances of "faith", "in your eyes", and "alone again" because they showcase his voice SO WELL! and especially with faith and alone again where his voice isnt at the forefront of the mix and is a little overshadowed by the production, in these live performances his voice is CRISP! its great
It can close it even better than until I bleed out. LISTEN TO THE DELUXE EDITION. Nothing compares is a masterpiece,Final Lullaby is the perfect closure.
If you truely like a Dark sound, you’ll love Trilogy. It’s his first 3 mixtapes put together and it’s about his early life of drugs, women, and just being dragged down by that lifestyle. It’s so good because it doesn’t promote that lifestyle but just displays it for the darkness it really is. I think you’ll truely love it! Also I really like your opinions and thoughts on each song and how you relate to it!
In your eyes is actually a really depressing song. It’s about him seeing the effects of his partner finding out he cheated but trying to pretend that she doesn’t know and that everything is fine even though they both know the relationship is crumbling

He used to be homeless. That’s when he released his series of three mixtapes in 2012. His biggest influences are indeed MJ and Prince:)
oh and when you said his vocals felt emotional on this one, you’re in for a treat when you hear his early mixtapes !

Mixtapes are 2011, the Trilogy was 2012
