  • I harvested this stick 2 months ago from an amazing twisted driftwood branch on a beach in the North of Scotland. After going to buy a saw, removing a length, driving it back to Derbyshire, and working on it for weeks, we're now back. The bit of wood on the right of shot is where I cut the stick from two months ago.
Material is obviously unknown, but sweet chestnut is one candidate, as it can grow in a twisted pattern. Key F/F#. The reverberation is quite spectacular, it's a very big sound and remarkably bassy for a high pitch. I don't know how well that comes across via this small lavalier mic.
This is a once-in-a-lifetime discovery which I'll probably keep for ever.
