Oh and coast guard needs to make the locks a no wake zone. I know you posted in the past about it, but to witness a bass boat come through the locks at 50mph is insanity. They will end up killing someone out there sooner or later.
Nice trout , took my dad on Father’s Day years back he caught a 7 1/2 lb trout in the same spot , Jimmy D. at Bait Incop weighed it , my dad had only none arm I made a harness for him to fish with
I am referring to the Gamakatsu Short Shank EWG treble hooks. They make two styles, both are great but one turns the hook point in a little and those tend to hang up less and are great for if the fish are eating the lure. The others are a short shank EWG but just have a normal round bend to them. They are best for fish that are slapping the lure to stun it or just turn at the last second and their body still hits the lure. It’s ok to up size a little also. I tournament fish with them for bass but they do the same thing as the trout often.
Great video. Can't wait till I can get back out after ankle surgery. Jon, watching your videos, you seem to stop reeling on many fish and it seems to cause some to shake the hook. I found myself doing the same thing and was able to catch more when I remember to keep constant pressure on. I watched your last couple of videos and it seems to happen on lost fish. I could be wrong, but it was something I caught myself doing. Keep up the great videos! You've convinced me to try that new lure. Thanks again
Yes, I understand what you are saying and I am literally trying different approaches. On small trout, I also believe that the best way to get them into the boat is to lift and reel. Even better to ski them in. On larger trout I am experimenting with balancing their strength and the weakness of their mouths. I have had the best luck lately with a light drag and med lite or med action rods. However the Vertrex lure introduces a new condition which is a heavy lure, 4/5 oz. Therefore the last two trips with the Vertrex I have been using a 4500 Spinfisher and a med heavy rod. This rod handles to lure weight well but may contribute to some loss of fish. I need to experiment more with the rod wt. thanks for the thoughtful analysis!
@jon miller I see more wildlife along the MRGO than I’ve seen anywhere else in Louisiana. One day we witnessed 3 hogs swim across the mrgo, a little passed the violet locks. The channel is probably 150 yards wide right there. Another thing I saw for the first time in my life was minks. There’s a lot of them over there. Although haven’t seen a coyote swimming I have seen them up by the flood wall levee. Such a diverse place to fish.
Love to see your techniques in the MROG. Great explanations. Keep up the good work
Awesome! Love the scientific approach you take.
Great video Jon
Thanks! Fun day.
I have actually caught a lot of bass in the back corner on the inside of the wall were you were during the summer. Good video
I appreciate your insight as well as your views on sportsmanship and protecting our resources.

Here is the link: releaseover20.org/
That’s a big trout, especially for one arm fighting! I hope we will see that size again.

Rodeo long time ago Big Kenny weighed it in won first place , caught in right across from Hopedale launch
What size weight do you use for Berkley pink 110? 3/8 or 1/2 oz

The MRGO is such great place!
I have never seen a coyote or a hog out filming haha. I don't know how you happen to see that so often.
Yes, I appreciate my luck!
Great video Jon.
