..he’s very good usually..maybe his ear piece was malfunctioning

@@rileysilosmusic No my friend. In ear monitors rarely malfunction, and if there was a malfunction he would have just pulled them out. Typically if there's an issue with in ears, it's that the volume isn't where you want it. Even more rare, but a possibility, is that the audio engineer is feeding the wrong mix to the wrong person. The in ear monitor mix can be whatever you want it to be. For example, many drummers just want a click or click and bass. Some vocalists want a click and vocal only. Or some people want the whole band but specific volumes for each. The engineer could accidentally run the drummers preset to the singer, so the singer isn't hearing his vocal and only hears click. In which case you pull your ears out. He didn't which tells me he heard his vocal. He was also in time fairly well, so he wasn't lost or singing blind. Lastly, there were sections with not multiple going on sonically other than vocals and he still sounded bad. So it definitely wasn't monitor related. I'm a singer in a rock band with a lot if experience with in ear monitors, so this is something I understand. Sorry for the long winded reply. Everyone has off days and musicians are no exception. If he usually sounds better, that's probably what this was.
