    On the left - Cheung Ka Long of Hong Kong (FIE Rank 4)
    On the right - Alexander Choupenitch of Czechia (FIE Rank 11)
    These two have fenced once this Olympic cycle. At the 2019 Anaheim Grand Prix Cheung beat Choupenitch 15-13

    Idk judging just from this clip of highlights it looks like Choupenitch isn't really trying

      Nah. He is. Fencing is deception. Choup is trying to make Cheung think that he isn't ready while in Choup's distance so he can punish. It's hard to get right so sometimes he would get hit while looking like he's not ready.
      That's how Cheremisinov and Itkin fence too, and trust me they want to win

      @@Dancingtuna Exactly this. Heck if you watch the hits he did get, he was screaming at the top of his lungs in celebration. He was there to win that day. As Choupenitch is big and tall, he fenced from a seemingly relaxed attitude but really he was trying to fool Cheung with it.

      First time I watched it I saw it (in laymens terms😂) as choup trying to fence a slower style during the beginning and cheung capitalized by being aggressive and fast and got ahead early, so choup altered his style to be more aggressive and caught up, but then went back to a more passive approach later on and at that point it was almost too late as cheung was on a roll and very confident that
