Dave, you've once again outdone yourself! How incredibly cool, eclectic and rare this latest acquisition is - wow!!! Seeing you firing up the Ariel made my day. Can't wait to see the Interstate 2 running. I bet you paid some bucks for that one considering only 100 were ever made. Thank you for allowing us to experience your ongoing adventures!
Actually, it was not expensive. Its an Interpool not an Interstate, which I think confused people. It confused me at first.
@@bullpencycles There's one just like it (same color) with 2,972 miles on the Mecum site Engine #3006. The site says "a 1983 Norton rotary-powered motorcycle that appears to be based on the Interpol 2 model, very tastefully customized as a civilian machine and dubbed by its builder as an ‘Interstate 2." Is this the one you have? Me so confused too!

I knew a guy in West Palm Beach back in the 80's with an Ariel Square Four almost identical to the one in your video and it was a smoker as well! Nice collection of new stuff to wrench and ride !

I think you have a broken ring in the Ariel Square Four. It's my favorite bike out of the bunch you picked up and screams late 1950's.....NICE! If it's a ring gone bad, it's an easy fix. I would have a hard time buying a bike from Mecums (just a little shady on their part).

Maybe. I'm hoping it will clear up on a short ride, but it might not. One ring? We know how that rabbit hole will go. 1st rings, then well four oversize pistons and a bore job, well then the sludge trap, and so on. Lol.
You like giving yourself heartaches, Dave. Hope the auction turds didn't hurt to much with the title. The Suzuki Across was also an in line 4 cylinder 250. And a bucket of crud.
Yeah, that title/VIN thing is a bummer. Our state DMV wont like the powdercoat or the non-US title. They'll have a field day.
That Ariel is the stand out in the group. Always wanted one of those. Maybe the toggle switch on the Triumph is the ignition... they want keyless.
Looks like lots of original goodies on that Katana. My original faux suede seat was purchased in pieces as no one is selling them otherwise. Even with a blemish on yours it's a bonus to have it.
The Jimmy Carter Speedometer is 1982 specific.
What is a Jimmy Carter Speedo? That's I term I never heard.

My favourite is the Benelli and the Ariel UK registration relates to Derbyshire circa October 1958 👍🏴

The turn signals on the bennelli are surposed to be a bit larger and semi gloss black housing! They are also mounted in the wrong place.
nice haul, the square 4 is gorgeous, and yes i think the Benelli did have CEV indiicators, ive got a fair fe if you have any trouble finding them, good luck with them all
I'm hoping it's only wet sumped and a long haul clears it. But it could be a tired top end.
@@bullpencycles could it be as simple as the barrel where the piston was lowest had a bit more internal surface break up? if so, as you say it should clear with a hot run

I was a Suzuki mechanic and my big brother bought the 2nd model Katana 1100.
I did 143 mph indicated on his.
Rock solid at any speed but a bit slow handling in the twisty stuff.
40 mph is about 60 kmh, 50 mph about 80 kmh, and 60 mph about 100 kmh. Not too difficult.

That Ariel Square 4 is still on the UK DVLA vehicle database (UK version of the DMV) - (google DVLA vehicle enquiry for the government website) if you don't know about that service, you can check the vehicle details of UK licence plates free of charge. It comes up as first registered in 1958 and last changed hands in the UK in November 2022. Shame about the weird title on the other bike too!

Some states are easier than others. I will probably do another video on titling laws in Florida

Yes they were just for the Japanese market. We had a few traders in the UK who imported containers of them in the nintices. Keep the wire tight.

Hello Dave thank you very much for your coverage very well done again and thank you I have a very personal question and you probably won't answer it what are you doing with all these motorcycles? Are they for customers or private collection or do you just gather them up for later retail or what? I was interested to know
Easy. I keep some. I sell some. Sometimes I don't like what I buy after learning about it and riding it. Sometimes I upgrade to a nicer one. Sometimes I trade. Price is often a function of how much I have in it and how much I like it, if I found something better, and so on.
@@bullpencycles thanks for the info I was wondering because none of the bikes seem like they went together all different kinds and I didn't see a pattern of bikes I thought I would see with you but thanks for the information and I really do like your videos a lot especially the going to all the shows and a different bike events that is excellent very well done I always enjoy watching your work thank you very much

Ahhh Snecum Auctions! They’re world headquarters is in my backyard. My first experience…….. well not so good.
Most those bikes sit there for days and you should be able too look them over, inspect Vins and Engine numbers etc… The honest guys are sitting with their bikes and you can talk to them, even ride the bike around the back lot.
The fact is, many of the bikes are auction whores who haven’t had a caring owner in many many years, or these guys are trying to unload their broken stuff without responsibility.
Bottom line, do your due diligence, and make sure you are informed and educated on what your spending your hard earned money on.
Yes Snecum is a little shady, all these auction houses are, but they don’t own these bikes, they are going on the info given by the owner, who many times is a shitbag. Snecum does have the responsibility to be vetting the numbers on these bikes when they come in the door. If they had an inspector they should lose they’re job.
Agree on VIN inspections They got some very bad publicity about that recently. Might wake them up
