Before The Ramones, Gary Glitter, The Stray Cats, and The New York Dolls, there was Flamin' Groovies. I can hear elements of all those artists in this cover of Freddy Cannon's 1959 hit. Maybe in a different world the Groovies would be considered the Godfathers of something, of exactly what I am not sure. They certainly qualify as proto-punk and proto-power pop. As Eno once said of The Velvet Underground, I think these guys also led to the creation of a lot of bands.
А?Отзовитесь....
It's funny how my punk "friends" deny or reject cool things like this. Few bands have had so much diversity in repertoire and versions. I wonder how they listen to Johnny Thunders if they don't understand the spirit.
Actually this track was not produced by Edmunds, though recorded around the same time as those other Edmunds produced tracks like "Slow Death" and "Shake Some Action" (and recorded at Rockfield I believe while Edmunds was gone for some reason). The original record said "produced by 'Flowerboy Venus'" which I think was a moniker for Cyril Jordan. Anyway, it's a killer!
Anyone know what this animation is taken from ? This is part of a longer film, which I saw a bit of in a shop window display once. My daughter really wants to see the full film.
Only Vers. that comes close to the original. Proto Punk? Late period Garage ? Looking for Edmunds and Ian Durys version offa Hope n Anchor benefit record,...
Anyone know what this animation is from ? I walked past a store a few months back, and the full animation was playing in the front window. I believe this is only a short part of it.
Ironic I now live in Florida after years In Manchester & san Francisco Danny Mihm love you still if Cyril still lets you play I Beam & DV 8 gigs on Friday nights were so good us drunk English mob could do louie Louie if Cyril was in a good mood30 years ago!!!!!
Badass cover of the Freddie Cannon classic... the best ever put on wax imho.
Rock music doesn't get much better than this. Had a Groovies vinyl bootleg back in the early 80s called flower boy venus with this track.
Best version of this
ruclips.net/video/6ArjFLCY-Do/видео.html This is ok too...
It doesn't get a whole lot more fun than this. Thanks, guys!
Groove that keeps burning

Love this video and I love the Groovies
These guys really hit on a lot of sounds ahead of their time.
Never get tired this song ❤️❤️❤️🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻

Superbe combination

Nice job. Thanks.
This version reminds me of THE MOVE~!
Right??? Roy Wood would do it this way for sure! Solid insight. Thank you.
Probably recording techniques and effects of the day but yes...think UK glam rock...dare I say it Gary Glitter 😲
yeah! it’s got the riff from Eddie Cocran’s Somethin Else, as does Fire Brigade.
Bass drum and clapping were Dick Clark's ideas.
Roy Loney perhaps, what matters is that's a great rock and roll number, one more!!!
The Dictators with Scott 'Top Ten' Kempner briefly did this version in1976!
Love It ★♡♥☆
This band should have been way bigger
And you should listen the Hurriganes version of the song.
awesome
Pure straight swing twist and punk shouter
Dave Edmunds produced this record.

Holy crap!!

good taste
hot damn these good ol' boys kick some ass
Cool.
Great

LIKE!!!!
We still love rock'n'roll. Will it outlive hip hop?
Hmmm...Roy A Loney or Chris Wilson on lead vocal? Actually sounds kinda like Robin Zander of Cheap Trick to me, IMHO.
chris wilson and Cyril Jordan.
Zander is known as the man of 1000 voices, he can change it to sound like many singers.
mfc1212us Maybe but he wasn't in the Groovies Line up.
Sounds like ELO. Jeff Lyne on vocals.
Anyone know what this animation is from ? I walked past a store a few months back, and the full animation was playing in the front window. I believe this is only a short part of it.

"She comes from Tallahassee
So she looks a little trashy..."
@popeye152
Couldn't have said it better myself.
produced by Dave Edmunds
nope, by Loney aka Flowerboy Venus
This sounds like it would fit into a Tarantino flick
Anybody know who produced / engineered this? The sound mix kicks butt.
The Master - Dave Edmunds at Rockfield Studios, Wales. It's "B" side to 'Slow Death'.
x1.50

RIP JON the POSTMAN
Holee spit!
lololol the video
Is this where Jeff Lyne got his style for ELO??? Me thinks so.....
it does sound a bit like California Man, which Jeff recorded in ‘71, and that was inspired by Jerry Lee Lewis.
Glitter band
I don't think they were glitter in any of their incarnations.
Great single, and the cartoon fits up with Cyril's aesthetic, but this really needs a better print and some AI. 👎 for effort, and 👍 for music.
