      Good point sedan, I have 15 tanks, the LARGEST one is a 40 gal breeder, I’ve successfully bred 5 schools of Red Top Lwanda Cichlids within a year, so it’s safe to say my breeder male and his harem of females are MORE than happy and comfortable in their 40 gallon tank. I run NO SUBSTRATE ITS AWESOME, the first school of fish are FULL GROWN NOW COLORED UP MALES in 2 29 gals tanks, don’t let anyone tell you a 55 gallon is too small, sorry but that’s bullshit, 55 gallon is quite large and MORE THAN enough room for AVERAGE SIZE ADULT CICHLIDS providing they are not of the monster or predator variety, go with what your budget and accommodations in your home allow and never allow another to dictate to you what size of tank or type of filters to buy and how to set up your tank. That’s REALLY a personal choice and part of the fun of fishkeeping, not one method works for all fish keepers there are MANY different factors involved. Definitely consider the “expert” opinion but talk to others as well and make your own decision, just do your research and get MORE THAN ONE OPINION, SERIOUSLY and GREAT to get guidance from MANY sources like hobbyists, breeders, etc but THERE IS NO ONE WAY TO SET UP A TANK and each fish person you talk to will give you a different answer anyways a lot of em have an ego like that lol,

    I love Cichlids, my homemade (not by me) 500 liter tank broke 2003 June friday the 13th :( Man that´s bad luck, shit i can´t handle one more to be worried about every second.... I had a bad feeling that day and worked off the lunch so i could get home 45 min faster. 2 min after i jerked of my shoes at home the water started poring 30 cm or 10" wide on the lower back of the tank. I had a garden hose to drain some of the water out through the balcony. 20 min later the tank was empty. If i didn´t got home in time the water would have gone out through the front door, that´s about 1,5 centimeters all over in my small flat. Only one room was affected. Anyway you have very good tips tnx!!

    Wow your aquarium is the most amazing ever. I've had aquariums for 40 years throughout that time.
    My biggest was 75 gallons. I currently have (2) 50 gallon aquariums. One African and one Central American, give or take a couple extras.
    Overall, with what i have, I'm surprised to say it's quite the communal aquarium.
    I'm currently working on a future endeavor. I've rearranged all my snake cages and have an empty wall (14') that I have mentally visited time and time again. And I envision a 300 gallon aquarium with Lake Malawi's finest.
    I'm debating between sump or canister. If i go canister I will run (2) Fluval FX6 and a 3rd bio system.
    Your background far superseded anything I've seen to date. That has inspired me beyond belief. Any tips, advice or suggestions. I know i want a variety of Africans, but probably not any Haps. Possibly a Frontosa, possibly. Idk yet. I really really love and want a background like you have. Absolutely stunning.

    great video & advice ! although I always wash my filters in the tap water I just make sure that I use the API chlorine treatment. I know some people are against treatment in their water, but I've had a lot of luck doing it that way. your fish are beautiful. the only problem I have is that it's hard to find other types of tank mates that my fish don't eat, lol ya know just to have some extra Variety in the tank. • @johnnguyen4572
      @johnnguyen4572 5 лет назад

      @@inventoryking I got it from experience. Most, maybe all mbunas start out as females, which is why all the fry are the same color. But thanks to a hierarchy, the most dominant mbuna turns into a male by shrinking its female parts and growing male parts. also changing color. My kenyi went from a royal blue to a dirty yellow. Its not just dominance, if the mbuna is the only species in the tank, it will turn into a male itself.

    Would you be comfortable telling me the price of the background and/or the tank itself? I'm willing to spend the money to build a beautiful African cichlid tank, I've been in the hobby for multiple years and I've always wanted to have one. I've typically stuck to smaller tanks, nano tanks, and reef tanks, the biggest being a 90 gal discus tank. I'm looking for a tank around 90-100 gallons for a cichlid tank. I'm confident with the pricing of a tank in mind, but I've searched up the pricing for AquaDecor and UniversalRocks backgrounds and they've been scarily high. Again, if you're not comfortable telling me that's fine, but I'm trying to find out how much a beautiful background like your's would cost.

    Quarantine is the responsibility of the aquarist and is a necessary procedure. If the source is directly from the breeder, not the dealer, the risk of slighting QT is reduced.

    How many cichlids do you recommend for a small 20 gallon tank I downsized from 120 gallon salt tank as I grew tired of all the work and thought id go smaller and switch to a 20 gallon fresh water tank and will they do well with neons?

    • @inventoryking
      @inventoryking  5 лет назад

    Just added a 5 inch Hongi in a mostly mbuna tank and in the first 2 hours it’s taken a beating from a 4.5 inch blue zebra and 4 inch demasoni. The blue zebra is my favourite, are they just establishing who’s boss or is this going to get messy?

    • @inventoryking

      It can get messy. Did you just add the one fish? It's best to add 4+ fish at a time it spreads out aggression

    What about a new tank? My plan is to set up the tank and have the retailer/breeder quarantine about 15 fish. Can I add them after having the tank run for about a week with just a couple of plecos in it?

    • @inventoryking
      @inventoryking  7 лет назад

      I wouldn't risk it. Your best bet is to buy an API master test kit and make sure your tank is fully cycled. Better to wait.

    •  7 лет назад

      No! Do a fish free cycle with ammonia. Wait unit the water parameters are correct.

    Why do you want to remove the female? I have been hearing that its okay... and its not okay.. and they will be too aggressive if they are around females.. but I've also heard they will be a alpha male problem with all males.. what are your thought on that debate? thanks

    • @inventoryking
      @inventoryking  5 лет назад +1

      The reason I want to remove the female is the males will compete for the chance at mating with her. I feel like this is going to result in more aggression vs an all male tank that has males trying to establish dominance. It can vary, that is just what I think.

    How big do female Malawi eye biters get ? And can one coexist with a brichardi cichlid please get back to me I’m having trouble finding info on this

    • @inventoryking
      @inventoryking  5 лет назад

      so female eye biters might get like 6-9 inch in aquariums, depending on the size and diet. They might be able to work out if they are the same size. It all depends, the fish sometimes make it difficult

    • @zonn499
      @zonn499 5 лет назад

    • @inventoryking
      @inventoryking  5 лет назад

      The bigger the tank the higher the chance that they will reach their full potential. And if they are fed well, then they would grow

      inventoryking thanks for getting back to me so fast. I figured it out right after I asked by watching one of your other videos. So I went to the site and I like the B1 model but I have a 75 gallon tank.. it doesn't give the dimensions on that background.. might you have any idea how far that specific model would stick off the back of my tank at most? I also saw in one of your videos that the cave in your background was not intended but that is what makes your background so cool. Don't change a thing.

    You never want to buy a 55 for Africans. You have to have at least 18 inches back so you have space for a rock wall. Each pair will need a home of their own.
