The XM reminds me alot of the i8 in the sense that it seems like a concept car that was made to show off possible future tech/cars. At 160k this is such a gimmick car that doesn't make a lot of sense but what I love about BMW is that they're one of the few car brands still pushing the envelope so hopefully we're going to see cool stuff in the future build on top of this.

This is the biggest insult and scam and crime BMW has ever committed against its loyal M customers. Starting with de-tuning the base engine. Then by limiting the top speed. Then by not including cross-drilled, ventilated brakes. Then by giving it THE SAME interior as the X5M and X6M. WTF?!
They needed to keep something in the goodie bag for the XM Label (formerly Red). The rear seat is a large and comfy though, so not exactly the same interior, especially the X6M is really tight.
they had to limit the speed because the car is too heavy, there is no tyre that can carry this car at those high speeds. I'm dailying a Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid, it's slightly lighter than this car, and boy, the hybrid variants are having lots of issues with their tyres. my car suggests you to have 45 and 48 psi for full-load and full-cluster speed capability, and the specification on the tyre sidewall tells you to not exceed 50 psi. considering the climate I'm living in (Turkey), we can easily hit 40C out here and no tyre can dissipate that much heat at high speeds. xm has 300 kgs extra, I can definitely say you would blow out the tyres easily if you go upper 260km/h.
Great video, once again. I agree across the board. Don't understand it either, at least not under the "XM" name. Small correction in the video: at 4:13 you list the HP of the electric motor (197HP) in stead of the one from the V8 (489HP) that you are talking about at that moment. Later in the video when you talk about the electric motor, the HP number is correctly displayed, so it repeats the 197HP number again

As a BMW fanboy, I think its clear this is a car for BMW fanboys with money. They have tried to do a G-Wagon - no doubt. But they cannot replicate that car's history, so it's a huge gamble. They're probably relying on low numbers keeping the price high to build status. What normal people don't realise is that 'trucks' over a certain weight are considered commercial vehicles and are therefore tax deductible in certain markets. Those with good accountants are told to purchase these cars and slowly write them off. Even after fully written off they still have value - so whilst the sticker price is high, ownership actually costs less than a car half its sticker price. They then laugh at people who simply buy the same vehicle simply for status (really - they're proving how dumb they are). So there is method with BMW - giving this niche market a second vehicle to chose from.
They marketed this as an 'M specific' vehicle yet they have just announced the XM 50e about two weeks ago, completely rendering that marketing as useless. BMW have lost the plot big time.
I don’t really understand their current design language at all , they can make great looking cars ( like the M8 ) , but this car is so ugly ( although looks less horrible all black instead of the red & gold combo seen in other vids )
Honestly its a car that doesn't make sense, BMW has the tools to make a plug in Hybrid X5/X6M Or X7 M50e but they put it in the wrong car and attached a wrong badge. The luxury comfort treats you get in the rear and the lights should've been a trim level for the X7. What bothers me the most is that they are charging customers extra for a stage tune and a exterior decals trim on the Label red. I'm only hoping BMW starts testing and production on the Vision M next concept car before 2030 or 2035( If I'm honest I wouldn't mind if it came with I6 Hybrid system or a Full EV). Also the market for the XM is mainly Asia and North America at this point. btw great review
This car is like a modern-day Frankenstein's monster, piece together from various parts… Come on BMW It’s a status symbol that is somewhat fun to drive yourself occasionally.
I am a BMW Geek. I saw this is in person yesterday. Besides the plug crap. It is impressive and quite the car. Just the naming is odd I am not sure why. But it's all good! I get my M2 soon!
If you're worried about that charging time preventing you from saving ~10 cents per mile you bought the wrong car or are really really bad at personal finance math.
BMW is moving forward. The one who is ruining the brand is MB, they thought that they can sleep on success and sell the same exterior design for decades, but sadly their sales started going downhill. Nowadays even shitty brands such as DS or Peugeot looks better and more futuristic than MB, the only thing MB managed to upgrade is their interior and increase prices across their range.
I would say that the concept of it was good but they messed up the market. They should've make the XM Red Label as a standard and and the next trim should've been purely electric something like the new Hummer EV is. Big fan of BMW here, but they messed up on this.
Have you actually wondered why BMW is gradually dominating in the market space in terms of sales? The Australian market is a clear example of what Im actually referring to. I believe they have manged to create attention everywhere including the social media to boost their sales. I really commend them and I think the other companies have lots to learn from the BMW team
Actually looks cool in black. That’s some presence, end of story. Not beautiful but cool nonetheless, that’s what they ve wanted😮 Except front lights on top of each other ( they should merge in some way ) , this is kinda Batman SUV lol. It will sell
BMW is working on finding its way in the EV space. They’ll have some false starts. They’re definitely working on preserving the driving experience they’re known for and catering to their clientele. They’ve got the added challenge of moving their customers toward EVs as they move to an ALL-EV car company. Their combustion engine offerings are only going to shrink. Just yesterday I turned in my M8 Competition for an iX50 all EV model mainly to dive into the EV world but preserve (for me) what I love about BMWs - the driving machine they truly are. We’ll see if they’re successful. I looked at the XM but I wanted to go all-EV to try it and see.

I don’t really understand their current design language at all , they can make great looking cars ( like the M8 ) , but this car is so ugly ( although looks less horrible all black instead of the red & gold combo seen in other vids )
We have all become spoiled with there M body styles of all models from the past
Looks sick in black. Better than a x5 imo
Also the market for the XM is mainly Asia and North America at this point.
btw great review
that red version looks like someone got a Batmobile model for Christmas and had to apply the red stickers after they opened the box. Garrish.
This new Kia EV9 looks great!
This car is like a modern-day Frankenstein's monster, piece together from various parts… Come on BMW
It’s a status symbol that is somewhat fun to drive yourself occasionally.
I am a BMW Geek. I saw this is in person yesterday. Besides the plug crap. It is impressive and quite the car. Just the naming is odd I am not sure why. But it's all good! I get my M2 soon!
It’s a large goods vehicle that’s looks hideous
@@amc599 Haters will hate. Just a simple fact of the internet.
@@Ripperx121 I can’t fathom that anyone would enjoy the aesthetics of this vehicle. Ugly hgv they could have done so much more with the xm
If you're worried about that charging time preventing you from saving ~10 cents per mile you bought the wrong car or are really really bad at personal finance math.
I think BMW have been infiltrated with undercover staff from competitors, and they’re like “let’s ruin this brand! 😂”..
I still like it! It is so bulky. Love it. Though I am a fan of delicate old school design.
Hybrid sounds like a great idea, until you’re out of battery and lugging around 500kg worth of conflict mined dead weight
How do you run out of battery if the petrol engine is charging it?
@@SenszR you use it in ev mode
@@samcas707 yea and then when it runs out you can put it back in hybrid mode. What’s the problem?
Ugh that Red Label is BMW's way of putting lipstick on a pig
oh, something bmw has in common with ur mum.
This car is the summation of the reason I don’t own any bmw s any longer
Can’t wait to see how fast the new red label will be
Bruh, WTF. They couldn't have given this the base engine from the X6M (617hp)? Explain to me WHY they de-tuned the engine!!!
BMW XM with bi-turbo V8 and one electric engine and together They have 750 horsepower.
Do you mind sharing which roads you were driving on? That would make for a fun road trip in my C63S
Actually looks cool in black. That’s some presence, end of story. Not beautiful but cool nonetheless, that’s what they ve wanted😮
Except front lights on top of each other ( they should merge in some way ) , this is kinda Batman SUV lol. It will sell
Basically every ugly car looks okay in all black lol
It's a fine product...it just shouldn't be an M.
Profiting from people with more money than sense/taste?
The xm is way better looking than the x5.
The latest X5 is beautiful car, but it looks like all today's cars, and XM looks like from the future.
The interior looks 'old' somehow.. idk how to explain it but it doesn't have a 'retro' feel to it but something that is a few years behind.
They have made some excellent PHEV SUVs already though... The X5 45e and current X5 50e are both excellent
