The aesthetics of small boards are usually better than the larger styles, but, as an engineering student, the num pad is the most invaluable asset on the keyboard.
Thanks for this informative video mate. I plan on ordering a QK60 as a portable, go anywhere keyboard and I never really thought about going for the HHKB option. Now, I‘m pretty much convinced that it‘s the perfect opportunity to try this layout. Keep up the good work :)
I've been a fan of swapping ctrl and caps lock since caps lock does nothing for the majority of the time. I've always found it to be more ergo that way. Love the hhkb layout but I'm a full grid ortho boi so i bought a boardwalk and modeled the layout based on the hhkb for the most part. Great board/layout and great video.
Not a fan of changing where control is, since I have control+z/c/v/a/s hardwired in my brain for decades and I don't find it particularly less ergonomic. But I do like the split backspace tho for many reasons (1 less stab, 1 extra key, better sound, symmetry and ergonomics) and use it on my 60% with arrows. Absolutely agree on the looks of 65% vs 60%, despite the fact the fact that there's no perfect solution for implementing physical arrow keys on a 60%.
I agree, control was really weird to get used to, and it's probably not significantly more ergonomic. honestly though I just like it more cause of the symmetrical blockers
for me, the best solution to implement arrows on 60% and less is using SpaceFn and have HJKL act as arrows while space is held it's incredibly comfortable once you get used to it, and you don't even have to move your hands away from the home row, it feels natural
@@YaroLord @flurples Or, go one step further & switch to the MOST goodest of arrows (other than Bepovan, ofc): SpaceFn w/ arrows on ESDF. Not only do you never leave Home Row for navigation, you don't even leave HOMING. Now you can use your mouse & arrows at the same time, since your left thumb can hold Space while your index stays on 'F' - AND you don't have to adapt to a new single-row, right-hand & less-ergo VIM cluster. 🎉 ...think it stops there? *HA!* You just gained that extra 'A'-key to the left of ← : Set up your Homerow as Home←↓→End for easy text navigation. Or use HHKB Control, 'A' as Shift/Alt←↓→Winkey for convenient single-letter/whole-word movement+highlighting or window/app-swapping w/ different arrows+mods combinations... 🧠
Hey bro if you can could to possibly send me the 3d file for the Mr Krabs keyboard plate I'm trying to build a fully 3D printed board, thanks in advance
I've used a niz EC keyboard for over a year, I built three customs in the meantime but still go back to it, until last week where I picked up an hhkb, love the layout and topre is truly god tier (even though I'm gonna throw the domes away and put bke's in them but still it's goated)
Came back here 1 year later to tell you that I didn't make it. I borrowed my friend's HHKB for a month. Forced my self to use it 5/7 days a week at work. Yet I quitted after about 3 weeks. Topre was superb though.
very informative video, but have u tried a 64 key layout? just curious, because i think it might possibly fit ur layout preferences which were explained in the video :)
Nice video! I've been wanted to try this layout since I find out, about a year ago I ordered the D60 Lite, KBDfans made a bunch of collaborations with some keysets, and for around $120 you can try this layout, it’s a very cheap way to find if you like the no control or not
Fortunately you're wrong about there being no entry level options to the layout. Akko makes some good boards, and the ACR59 is an affordable, hotswap, CNC acrylic HHKB keyboard for people who are looking to try it. Epomaker and the Akko website carry them, and as of writing, the pink version is on sale.
hi, do you have any way that i could contact you? i have some questions about the wiring for the elite c handwired keyboard build you posted a while ago
I have the HHKB JP. Its a 65% or something. Idk much about custom keyboards. It's nice but dedicated FN keys and dedicated keys for stuff like SysRQ and Page Up/Page Down would be very nice.
2:04 What even is this logic? Computers arent consumable things that you change all the time. Its the other way around. I also dont think its 'practical' at all either. 105% all the way

That's the original place for CTRL. Caps Lock taking its place is a modern thing and makes no sense. I dont know anyone who even uses Caps Lock.
A Keyboard Without The Control Key Would Be Exclusive
semi-yearly upload! good work!

building keyboards is fun and all but there is no universe where you can convince me getting a hhkb keyboard is practical
