I'm a broke college student and I live in a 3rd world country, so a lot of the products you recommend just aren't accessible to me, and even if they were, I simply can't afford them. DR Dray's product recommendations however tend to be on products that are affordable, and accessible to me (brands like Cerave, La Roche Posay, Avéne, Neutrogena...) and they tend to generally work. What I like about Dr Dray's videos is other than the clear fact that they are educational and informative, she also favours doing the bare minimum to one's skin and she doesn't push using excessive amounts of products. I guess my main point is that while heeding ethical considerations is great and noble, you should also consider the fact that a lot of the products you show just aren't affordable nor accessible to some of your viewers.
The cost of a lot of cruelty-free products is prohibitive for a lot of people. It's awesome that Dray makes an effort to point out basic and inexpensive alternatives. I use a few things from the Ordinary that I really like. I don't know if that's an option for you but if not we do the best we can with what we have until things start to change :)
@@kaleidoscopeeyes1184 the thing is some of the ordinary products are in their purest form and cause breakouts for a lot of people and some are not recommended for dark skin people.Just watch Dr.Vanita Rattan's review on the ordinary.
Because of all these RUclips self made skincare gurus I never bought the Neutrogena Oil Free Acne Wash with 2% Salicylic acid. They all said it was striping and too harsh to be used even on oily skin. Bruh after about ten "gentle/hydrating" washes for months, I finally risked buying the Neutrogena, And boy how wrong I was, it worked like a charm. My never ending toxic relationship with acne came to an end. I still have issues because of my hormones but it has done A LOT! that's when I realised all money wasted on ethical, sustainable, fair trade etc etc was doing nothing for me if it doesn't suit me. And guess who recommended the Neutrogena one 🤗 yes Dr.Dray.
I think Cassandra is pointing out more the lack of option for cruelty free, like, Dr Dray is recommrnding non cruelty free, but could ALSO give cruelty free option, but isn't.
I don’t understand why these videos of people coming for Dr Dray keep being recommended to me. Dr Dray is professional, kind, drama free and honest. She doesn’t need to bash any other RUclipsr in order to get views. Keep it classy Cassandra.
Seasoned professional? Where are her degrees? Where is her practice and how are her patients reviews of her? How often does she see them? If she cant be transparent about her practice (which I doubt she even has) then she needs to stop making ridiculous claims. Dr Pimple popper is completely open about everything, from the schools she went to, the degrees she has, and even featured patients (with their consent). She's an influencer with a medical degree (and there's plenty of those all over RUclips in every field you can imagine) 🤣

One of the things I love about Dr. Dray is she openly states she won't do reaction videos because she doesn't feel it's right to judge or comment on someone else's routine. It's probably part of the oath: First do no harm.
lol that is so passive aggressive, I'm sure her oath also applies when Dray is selling me headbands. She's more of a influencer than an actual doctor. I'd love to know how her practice is doing, what her patients reviews of HER are, and does she even work as a doctor or is her real job RUclips?

I'll take Dr. Dray's advice any day. She breaks down individual products that are affordable and keeps it simple. She is more than qualified as a dermatologist.
With the eye sunscreen, she said she likes it because it acts as a concealer as well. Dr. Dray does not support the use of eye creams in general if you watch her videos.
I agree! Dr.Dray does mention in her videos that she uses tinted sunscreens in place of other makeup like foundation and concealer. People should not get so triggered by the mere mention of the word "eye cream".
I’m so annoyed at the fact she made those hand gestures mocking Dr. Dray (even if she wasn’t actually). She obviously was not listening to her or watched the rest of the video to make that comment. She was suggesting it as a concealer and a preventative, in no way do eye creams get rid of dark circles or wrinkles but that’s not what Dr. Dray was saying or vocalized. Like really she had to make those faces and then be like “she’s super right! But I’m surprised she chose that! Haha 🙂” came off super wrong
Honestly, I decided to watch this out of curiosity to see how you broke down an actual DERMATOLOGIST skin care routine. The reason so many people love & respect Dr. Dray is her ability to recommend so many affordable skincare products that actually work. Her channel has grown exponentially in a short time for that reason. Unfortunately your recommendations are generally very pricey and based only on your ethical views. It is your channel and therefore your choice as to what to promote. As one of the few actual DERMATOLOGIST on RUclips many of us love her advice on skincare!
She really could have recommended more affordable products, but there are some cruelty free options available in stores like Walmart and Target at reasonable prices.
Dr. Dray has given me hope for my skin. It’s affordable for me because I am a single mom I am a six. She is a dermatologist that has saved my skin and my money.
Dear Cassandra, 1. Dr. Dray has mentioned several times that she only has a plant-based diet and never identifies herself as a true vegan. Why does she have to recommend vegan alternatives for products when she doesn't really identify herself as a vegan? (No wonder we vegans get so much hate.) 2. Dr. Dray has already said in a few of her videos that - according to her, there isn't enough evidence to prove that chemical sunscreen filters actually damage coral reefs and that several of those studies actually have massive loopholes. Hence, she doesn't feel the need to stop using filters touted as being dangerous for the reefs. 3. Dr. Dray has also repeatedly mentioned that just because she's using a product currently doesn't mean she would recommend it to others. She gets sent a shit load of products to try (like all RUclipsrs do) by companies, subscribers, in subscription boxes, etc. and she tries to use up as many products as possible because just throwing it away for not being vegan/free of irritating ingredients/unethical is wasteful and way worse for the environment than using a product/brand you don't really agree with. These are just my two cents - no offense intended. I really didn't want to comment but I felt like I needed to this time.
Also Dr Dray has done at least 2 videos where she boxes up heaps of 'gently' used & brand new skincare & she sends it to women who are living in shelters because of various kinds of abuse & she briefly talks about each brand as she's packing it. I found them to be very interesting even though I'm in the UK & many of them aren't available here (or weren't then). But how nice for those women getting some fab skincare to use & call their own. Some walk in with nothing but the clothes on their backs. She's very kind & thoughtful.

I actually went back & watched one & she put things in that she had a few of & said she would buy some more for herself but let's face it a huge amount of women buy skincare & have no idea of the ingredients, they just go by what the assistant says to them or the way the brand has designed the containers. This was such a respectful comment in a sea of rabid dr stay stans lol It's definitely more ethical to just use products that you have vs. throwing them out, however she's still contributing to the sales of a product that is not cruelty free or vegan, and people take Dr dray's word for gospel sometimes. So I can understand why a vegan would find that unethical. Overall imo Cassandra has a point, if Dr Dray could at least just recommend a cruelty free option next to the products she uses and recommends it would be nice and helpful for her viewers! I'm not even a vegan or strictly CF user but there are options out there and it'd be nice to see a prominent skincare figure be a bit more inclusive!
@@THExBREAKFASTxMONKEY I'm a vegan myself but personally don't see any need for a non-vegan dermatologist to go out of her way to use/recommend vegan alternatives in her own skincare routine. She's a medical professional and can be expected to recommend products that are tried and tested on herself or patients - instead of random vegan options she doesn't even use or believe in. This might just be me but when an incredible dermatologist goes out of her way to offer the world free skincare advice, I gladly take what I can get (and implement as per my own strict vegan standards) instead of questioning her PERSONAL lifestyle choices and morals. It would be extremely hypocritical of me to expect a non-vegan doctor to provide vegan options when the information is being provided free of cost. I would only feel ENTITLED to vegan options if I were paying a dermatologist to recommend them.
most people use too much shampoo/conditioner anyway- a good bottle of shampoo with vitamins and everything should be at least $25 and should last you 3-6 months depending on how oily your hair gets naturally etc
@@sammi_spencer that may be for your hair but everyone has different hair types. Some people have more hair or less hair, some thicker and some thinner, some curly and some straight. My conditioner and shampoo would never last me that long because of how much hair I have and it’s texture. You’re experiences don’t reflect everyone’s

Saw one of her videos, she said You can use PanOxyl acne face cream for your under arm cause it has ingredient that get rids of bacteria that cause bad oder. Been doing for 3 weeks. Guurrrllll, that shit work!!!! Some days I don't even need deodorant. There's no smell!! I been fighting this damn problem over 20 years until now. Thank the lawd for Dr.Dray!!!
She’s an MD you are not . She has went through 4 years of college , 4 years if medical school , 4 years of residency , followed by a fellowship in dermatology . 13-15 years of schooling and training .
THANK YOU that doesn’t include the additional years of experience she has in the field outside of fellowship. And Cassandra has “10 years in the field”. The expertise doesn’t come close

It’s such a deeper understanding of cellular biology, organic chem and molecular science that an estheticiansimply does not get in the small amount of schooling . It’s a difference and valid point. Doctors aren’t perfect nor always right. But still an astronomical difference
After seeing so many “influencers” who USUALLY have a good moral compass when it comes to calling out the bullshit with Celeb Skin Care lines, Dr. Dray is the ONLY one who actually called the Fenty Line out for what it really was, overpriced celebrity schlock you can get from different brands for much cheaper. Everyone else was so timid and trying to give props when it just wasn’t due.

Notice how what she used is very affordable and what you recommended was much more expensive. I understand that you have your morals and ethics but I think Dr. Dray was focusing more on the fact that her viewers might be on a budged and can’t drop 30 dollars on each product

And also, most of the products Cassandra are hard to find in my country or 3x more expensive, for example, the ordinary is generally a lot more expensive in my country, their peeling solution costs like 7.5 dollar last time I checked, while in my country the cheapest I’ve been able to find the product is at almost 25 dollars. And that’s just without taking in to account the fact that in my country the minimal wage is of around 250 dollar per month and most people don’t even reach that minimum wage. So while I appreciate what she stands for and while I try to use mostly cruelty free products, we shouldn’t judge people for using them, no one knows what the other is living through.

You can't critisise someone's skincare routine for not being cruelty free. That's like reviewing a chef's recipe and saying 'I don't like it because it' s not vegan'. Okay... But they never said it was? You didn't talk about the actual food at all. You can say you'd prefer cruelty free. But that's a lifestyle choice. It has no relevance to the actual food/skincare (btw, I'm an advocate for cruelty free, I'm just pointing out the obvious flaw in that argument).
Being vegan is an ethical lifestyle not a diet. She should not claim she’s vegan if she doesn’t use vegan products. She is then plant based not vegan. This is coming from someone who is not vegan ☺️ I can just see how Cassandra as an actual Vegan would be a little annoyed by it because she frequently states she’s vegan to her audience but then contradicts her message by constantly using non vegan products

@@emmal2578 Thats false. Veganism is a tricky lifestyle even if you disagree. Often times you have to buy certain foods and supplements to keep you on par with someone who eats meat and gets a good amount of their nutrients from meat and dairy. Veggies and fruit are not enough, nuts are EXPENSIVE, tofu, plant milks, and special vegan packaged foods are growing in demand + becoming more expensive. And depending on the state and city you live in being veganism becomes an expensive luxury. I live in Boston and being vegan here is not cheap... A lot of vegans under eat , when you're vegan you have to actually eat twice as much to reach your caloric and nutritional threshold and that honestly adds up on a weekly basis. This is coming from an ex vegan that developed an eating disorder and got severely ill.
Dr Dray literally saved my skin! My skin is better now in my 40s than when I was in my 20s…I’m a mom of 5 so I can’t spend 100s on my skin care so I only buy products she recommends
Aestheticians need to stop doing these videos on dermatologists. I’m a molecular biologist and I trained intensely for 8 years to do my job and have multiple years of experience. When I finished my degree I felt very confident and qualified. After my masters, I realised that I wasn’t as knowledgeable as I thought I was. Now with a doctorate I’ve never been more humble. I’m as qualified as one can get in the industry and I realise now that we as people know very little. I remember my lecturer in the first year saying “you will become a scientist when you realise how much you don’t know. What I lacked after my undergraduate degree was critical thinking and the ability to apply science outside of the box. That’s the sense I get with aestheticians when I see videos of them criticising Dermatologists or claiming that they are a in different field. Sometimes people don’t know what they don’t know hence why they are overly confident to criticise people who are more qualified than they are without critical thinking.
The criticism was mostly ethical I don't see any criticism from a scientific perspective, Mrs Bankson merely spoke about including cruelty free options in Dr. Dray's videos, which is reasonable and does not challenge any scientific or medical position Dr. Dray has expressed. Mrs Bankson is well aware and has mentioned before that she is not in a position to challenge Dr. Dray's medical knowledge, and she never has before. Did you actually *watch* the video?
I’ve only seen a few reviews of function of beauty that were not sponsored and the majority of them claim that after using it for an extended period of time, it was making a significant amount of their hair fall out or otherwise damaging it. I would love an unsponsored video in the future if that’s possible.
I heard that it was linked to their due formula, but hair naturally falls out. I have a significant amount of hair that falls out because of how long I wait in between shampoos. I’ve also heard most people say it made them decide to wait a longer period of time in between the shampoos which can increase the amount of hair that comes out. Also how often you brush ur hair and so on. So many different factors play in to that as well. Hope that helps a lil bit!
Wow, this is shocking and I actually really appreciate you bringing this up - I have heard of this from other companies such as Diva curl or Monet, but never from function of beauty is Ash if you have any links that I could look into, I am more than happy to look into this, do some research, and followed up with a non-sponsored post discussing it! I hope you know that even when posts are sponsored I remain brutally honest and upfront throughout the whole thing, that being said I haven’t seen any hair loss personally. At the same time, this is worth looking into and I appreciate you bringing it up!!
This happened to me!!!! I chose it because it offered sulfate free dye free and scent free and even a silicone free option. But it made my hair try tangly and a mess. It’s not necessarily worth it. It lets you choose 5 hair goals but there are no restrictions. Chemically it doesnt make sense for it to claim to respond to each of these goals individually. Im over the hype

This is my biggest issues with the vegan community, you’re never vegan enough. It gets really annoying fast hearing ‘not cruelty free’ 1000x times. What does that even mean? Cruelty towards the animals? The workers in the factories? The workers who mine the raw material? There’s no way that stream is completely‘cruelty free’. :S Also like others already pointed out these items are super expensive, cheaper alternatives are a must.
Yeah, absolutely. Hearing her berate D Dray for what? Not accomodating her personal cruelty free preferences? Is ridiculous. You can try to spread the message but straight up berating someone for not following it comes across as rude and entitled.
It is also ironic that most vegan(not tested on animals) products seems to be more costly compared to the products that aren't vegan when people say left and right that currently we have enough technology to make products without having to test on animals. You'd think the process of testing the products on animals will take more time and money and thus will increase the pricing, but that doesn't happen. In addition, I have to agree with the cruelty free aspect of the term. There really isn't a clear guide to what it means legally and I personally will be disappointed if cruelty free only applies animals and not people cuz news flash, even if animals are important as well and your pets are too, human lives and the human friends you have ought to be more important.

But people in poor countries still suffer in the great scheme of things/stream of production, are they allowed to suffer?
Dermatologists recommend mineral oil because it's anallergic, while vegetal ones aren't, doesn't go rancid and is a good barrier for skin. Dr. Dray too talked about this on a video.
I love that you brought this up because I have skin that’s so sensitive that the only moisturizer I can use is mineral oil based. I’m allergic to latex, salicylates and benzenes and oxalates so plant oils are NOT compatible with my skin. Acting like coconut oil or vegetable oils are just as good as mineral oil is hella privileged and extremely uninformed.
I know absolutely nothing about skincare and I really don’t like Cassandra’s tone here, but for some reason, mineral oil breaks me out in cysts, I have no idea why. Ugh.

I swear esthetician’s die when they see a BASIC routine without a lot of additives or extra crap. Her routine is PERFECT FOR HER and it’s INFORMATIVE TO US. Why she would pretend to find any problem with her routine is beyond me and probably just more ad revenue.
Exactly, plus I am pretty sure Dr. Dray's and Cassandra's population are completely different. Even though Dr. Dray is vegan herself, she is professional and very prudent when it comes to recommending products to help her audience, contrary to making a video with clickbait for viewers. Being compassionate basically is being able to sympathise and empathise for something or someone other than you and that someone/thing can by anything and anyone. Personally I put emphasis on anyONE rather than anyTHING to put it bluntly. Humans over animals.
I respect Dr. Dray because while she may be vegan she doesn’t push that on us and uses products that work for her and make sense. Just because your vegan and want cruelty free doesn’t mean everyone does or can afford it. We all have our own perspective, she isn’t wrong in using what she likes just as you are not wrong for using what you like. Skincare is not one size fits all.
Also "Cruelty Free" is NOT regulated or enforced by anyone. Companies can get away with misleading and deceiving cruelty-free claims because there are no standard or legal definitions for the term 'cruelty-free'. Sadly, the FDA does not regulate or monitor the 'cruelty-free' label so companies can use them in whichever way they want. *Before this gets brought up in the comments, we were going to nip it in the bud here* For what it’s worth, I’m not here to comment on Dr. Drays diet. If you are, please take it elsewhere. Nobody knows what people are going through behind the scenes - whether it’s genetic, mental, cancer, other disorders etc. If she hasn’t brought it up, it’s probably something she doesn’t want addressed. I of course want people to get help if they need it, but something I have learned throughout the years changed me in a funny way. I have not been diagnosed with an eating disorder, or heart condition or metabolic condition that causes my body to process nutrients differently. I have dated women in the past who have struggled with eating disorders. Although I can sympathize with them, I could not empathize with them. What I learned from those relationships is that comments, constructive or positive, can often do more harm than help. Even kind or positive words get twisted in peoples minds and can often lead to worse outcomes. For me, it’s strange and counterintuitive but it’s something I respect. *Again, not saying or insinuating there is an Ed or any condition here because we have no idea, and honestly it’s none of our business what people‘s medical history is* Of course I want people to get help if they need it, however there are certain instances where it’s counterproductive to discuss publicly. Dr Dray is an amazing source of skin care knowledge, has such a sweet personality, has lots of energy and vitality, and is someone that I am so grateful to have in my digital life!! Unless she makes it my business, it’s not my place to discuss. I’ve said it in the comments multiple times, that I don’t block people - they can call me names, rude things etc. but I believe in freedom of speech. That being said, anytime a comment attacks someone else, for their race, religion, sexuality, appearance, or other things of that nature, there is no doubt that they are blocked. It’s not OK to judge and disrespect people for their differences. I do believe that most comments come from a place of kindness and compassion, but I think it’s important to remember that things can be taken out of context and hurt overall. If she wants to discuss certain things, I’m happy to watch her do so in videos. If not, my comment section is not the place to have those conversations.

Do you know what she means when she says this thing about spf 30 just protecting you for 30 min? 😳 Then if you have spf 50 you have to apply it every single hour? So... 10 times a day? Woudnt that make it impossible to kind of... Live life?😅

Unfortunately most of the products you’ve recommended are expensive. Super goop is expensive compared to other sunscreens. I get where you are coming from, I’m a vegan my self and love animals.But Dr Dray looks at skin care products from a physician point of view. Unfortunately I have found my self that many vegan skin care products are loaded with essential oils that are highly irritating to the skin, needless to say pricey.
the ordinary is vegan and their products are not loaded with essential oils tho :) cosrx, purito and klairs are cruelty free and mostly vegan too and many products are really affordable, they have fragrance free options (especially on yesstyle)
Sophie , unfortunately the ordinary sells what is considered to be raw skin care products, meaning, each product contains a single ingredient required in a skin care formula that will benefit your skin care. For instance, niacinamide or Ascorbic acid in their purest states without any other additives. The Ordinary is giving the consumer the job to play the roll of chemist as the application of some of these ingredients alone will cause severe irritation. There is a reason why skin care pharmaceutical companies hired chemist to measure the ratio of ingredients before putting a product in the market.
ELF is all vegan and has some skin care options. Jason and Dessert Essence have fragrance free options. Inkey list and The Ordinary are also cruelty free. I know it can be hard to find so let's support each other in finding cheap vegan options!
Fenty has a new sunscreen/moisturizer and it’s around $35 and the bottle is huge which makes it worth the price in my opinion also adding the fact that it doesn’t have a white cast. I’m not sure if the ingredients are cruelty free or vegan friendly so you would have to look it up.

ugh right! I was amazed at how proud of herself she was at "cruelty free" options to help animals but completely ignored ppl like me who are literally poor. The fact that she has the option to put her "money where her morals are" is a PRIVILEGE. And shes literally shaming anyone who doesn't have that privilege.
Dr dray’s whole platform is helping people find effective beauty products that everyone can afford and find at local retail outlets. Her platform is not cruelty free or “clean”, so if that’s really important to you she’s probably not for you. She has done several cruelty free videos, but it’s not her focus. Her focus is fragrance free, non-irritating formulas and the importance of sunscreen. I think it’s a little unfair to criticize her so intensely for something that just isn’t her platform.
But she’s vegan, and this is HER routine, not just a recommendation video. Just sounds hypocritical to be using products from brands that literally test on animals then claim to be vegan. I understand why some people would use them, price wise etc, but I’m sure she’s rich enough to afford more ethic products.
@@mandarina4157 i agree that it is hypocritical of Dr Dray from a personal standpoint, but her channel is really about education and showing how almost anyone can purchase good quality skin care products at an affordable price. Personally I find it refreshing that she doesn’t push her veganism onto everyone watching her channel though I’ve noticed in more recent videos she always includes a cruelty-free option at the end, usually at a higher price point. Also, if you watch this video you’ll see that it’s not just “oh she’s being a little hypocritical here” it’s a constant eye roll of criticism. I personally found it off-putting, even though I try to choose cruelty-free products myself.
Dr Dray actually does recommend many vegan and cruelty free products when they exist and could be alternative to some not cruelty free ones in many her videos, no matter whether she uses only cruelty free products or not. As an youtuber, she is testing a lot of products for review and she probably changes her routine constantly. She moved on to other cleansers already. If you watch her empties video you would know.

Literally. She went through med school and an extremely difficult residency, I’m sure she knows what she’s doing as she’s been one on one practicing this. Like I don’t get why people who only have an interest in skincare have to make comments against doctors that know what they are doing. Cass is a medical aesthetician; therefore, she is also qualified to discuss skin care. She's not just a hobbyist. Aestheticians (more so than dermatologists) are the ones who usually look into skin care actives and off-the-shelf products. Dermatologists are doctors and they learn about skin care illnesses, it's not a dermatologist's job to understand skin care formulations. My point being: Yes, Dr Dray obviously has a lot of experience in skin care, but so does Cass. I'm a computer engineer, and guess what? Despite the fact that I am an expert in my field, I also occassionally receive criticism from physicists and programmers. Being an expert in your field is great, but you might not be the only expert. Give Cass some credit, she also has 10 years experience in the line of skin care.
As a physician, I am deeply disappointed in all the disrespectful attitude towards a certified dermatologist, who makes products recommendations based on scientific evidence and the cost-benefit that implies adherence and better results. Also, how absurd to recommend a papaya cleanser, instead of the inexpensive and effective alternative of Ponds. Just because it isn’t cruelty free. Papaya is a highly allergenic fruit... Anyways, everyone should evaluate what kind of influencers they follow. I definitely will NOT follow such irony and unfounded disrespect.
Karla Alejandra. Recommending animal cruelty is not being a good influence. Some people have basic ethics. Many poor people care about animals, assuming low income people want to cruel to animals is also messed up. Just recommend cheap cruelty-free products.
I believe she is draging Dr. dray for no valid reason and she is not a doctor herself, and actually esteticiants as her, not her, ruined my skin more oftenly, as on the other hand dermatologists are doctors and know much more not only about the skin, but about health. She is recomending coconut oil, how can it even be recommended for people with sensitive and oily skin... Just use simple skincare. Cleanser, cream, spf and one active at a time, that's all

Wow, those are some ridiculous prices. There are far cheaper cruelty free products like The Inkey List, The Ordinary, elf, St. Ives, and even Dove has a cruelty free label on it now. Cassandra needs to recommend cheaper cruelty free alternatives if they are even available.
I always used baby oil, a cheap lotion or conditioner to remove my make up esp eye makeup. I never bought into the pricey make up removers but if someone wants to that is cool. Just not for me.
@@nikkib473 I have sensitive eyes and I use the generic Amazon eye makeup remover, and it works perfect even on waterproof mascara. I can't imagine spending so much money on something that's immediately washed down the drain.

Dr dray typically isn’t a fan of eye creams and thinks they’re useless. It looks like the only reason she’s using that product is because she’s basically using it as a concealer. So it’s not that it’s an spf or cream just for the eyes, it’s that she’s using the tint as a concealer, and because it has sunscreen & is more of a tint. she probably prefers that to an actual under eye concealer.
Yes exactly! I don't think that Dr Dray likes makeup. The only real makeup item that she uses is mascara, but other than that she uses tinted sunscreen as "foundation" which is kinda funny to me bc I used to wear a lot of makeup (typically concealer) to get some coverage for my pimples, and tinted sunscreen barely does anything. I like the point you made because context is everything!
The more I see of Cassandra the more I am starting to become frustrated at the gimmicky push she gives for “cruelty free.” If people would please look into “cruelty free” they would see it almost does not exist. Also, what do you take issue with? Treatment of workers in factories? The workers who mine the raw materials? Where does cruelty end? There’s no way that products are 100% cruelty free. Or do you take issue with animal testing? Which is NOT how these “influencers” make it out to be. As a researcher, and specifically a neuroscientist, from a safety standpoint you want products that will not be harmful in the long run. If not for animal testing, we would not have the studies that have been published indicating which ingredients are harmful to humans whether it be topically, or carcinogens, etc. Also, research performed at academic institutions or otherwise are performed according to IACUC standards where a group of researchers, veterinarians, and everyday citizens will review the research protocols that are proposed to ensure animals will not be exposed to undue suffering, meaning care is taken to minimize any pain or suffering to the animals. If there is pain or suffering to the animals and the research is not impactful, the studies do not happen because the IACUC protocols are not approved. Also, as a researcher who performed neuroscience research on rodents, at our AALAC accredited institution, veterinarians check the animals daily to ensure they are healthy, are not exhibiting pain, etc. Any rat that is exhibiting any health issues are treated appropriately. Also animals are used for as many studies as possible to maximize research and minimize the number of animals used. There are guidelines that are followed by the institution with the care of animals, and if they are not followed, the veterinarian will report the researcher to the NIH, and their NIH funding and ability to conduct research will be revoked. Researchers cannot get away with unapproved harming of animals without serious repercussions, and there are many checks and balances in place, so people should educate themselves and realize that this fear mongering whether it is by influencers, brands or even PETA (don’t get me started on how unethical this organization/thing is) is typically a marketing/sales ploy.

While I respect the opinions expressed in this video, Dr Dray recommends AFFORDABLE and ACCESSIBLE products. It would be nice if there were more accessible and affordable and affective, cruelty free options but unfortunately there is not. And to be honest not everyone is willing to risk using coconut oil on their face. So to each their own. Not everyone wants to pay that kind of money for the more “ethical”, “vegan” products especially in this day and time where most people need to save a penny and their face!

You’re totally right - it’s so frustrating, even when I’m trying to find duplicates for some of the drugstore favorites, to see the ridiculous prices of some of these things - identical ingredients, but what is cruelty free and cost three times as much. Hopefully this is something that the industry can fix super soon!
I find it weird that cruelty free and vegan skin care products are uncommon in drugstores in the US. Here in Korea, they are absolutely common. And they're very affordable as well. I heard from Americans in a Facebook skincare group I'm in that Walmart sells some Korean skin care products. And that their prices are affordable. I hope it can be helpful to some of you all.
Doll Face this is amazing, and I wasn’t aware of Walmart! Definitely have to look into this. Yes, it’s amazing how inexpensive cruelty free products can be overseas. I wish that the American market would take a hint! I will definitely look into some of these brands and really appreciate you bringing this to my attention!
Dr. Dray would never make a video like this. So many things you said was so offputting. Dr. Dray has helped so many people with affordable alternatives. Not everyone can afford to buy expensive stuff. She cannot accomodate everyone. And to spam her comment section is just ridiculous. It pisses med off that you actually get pissed of by her choices and content. It is HER channel, not yours. You can decide what your content is, but SHE, and only her decides her content. I support Dr. Dray and trust that she does what she can to accomodate as many of us as possible. She is the best one on RUclips by far.

I've been using mineral oil (baby oil) as a makeup remover for years and it is the best EVER. It removes waterproof mascara effortlessly and my stubborn foundation so easily. And I use a salicylic acid foundation so you know that stuff is like a tattoo on your face lol. But I will give micellar water a try since it's popular. I've used countless makeup removers and nothing holds a candle to mineral oil so far. Of course, it's only amazing as a first step before cleansing, it really lifts everything from the skin.

@@fashionovawigs that's not what Susan meant. Even though I trust Dr. Dray, you have to get your license renewed, skin care science is literally changing every week, new things are discovered. So if you were a dermatologist 5 years ago but havent been renewing your license you might be a tiny bit outdated on your knowledge. Of course you can always learn on your own as a professional without the license and just use your background knowledge to guide you to the right directions, but we should be careful regardless. Skin care advice from 2 years ago from a professional will not be as effective as advice from a pro today.

That's what I always said!!! Cruelty free is just not 100% possible in this world. It just isn't and will never be. With that in mind, it's still important that products are not tested on animals and stuff like that, but there is no need to get obsessed over it. I agree :)
Samanta Rizzi I’m not saying it’s impossible, it very much is possible and unfortunately companies that aren’t necessarily currently cruelty free are the ones who have the funds and resources to try and prove to places such as China that have a ‘list’ of tested ingredients to consider finding alternatives for testing. but I’m not going to judge someone for recommending a product that’s good and affordable, it’s more important to recognise when someone’s using fear mongering. It’s such a fascinating but equally frustrating industry especially in America that’s so behind Europe in terms of science and regulations.
@@Gresaaa It's not possible. Again think about where those ingredients come from? Plants? Where do plants grow? In the fields .. so for making those fields what are they doing? They have to make room for it, that way some animals lose their homes, some get killed during this (think about how they cut trees from the forest in order to make room to plant plants that will give the right ingredients to then gain profit with them)... so even if it's a natural ingredient there is no way it could be 100% cruelty free. Nature doesn't work like that. You can have whatever opinion you want I know I'm right about this because we studied these things in school. Obviously Europe is better at the regulations, but we're far from being perfect when it comes to animals and nature! (I'm from Slovenia)

Look into yourself Cassandra. The more you point out Dr. Dray's flaws, the more you emphasize your own. I won't be surprised if you lose some subscribers from this day onward. I know I'm one of them.
She still gas valuable input regarding skincare. The main thing is she’s going deep with the cruelty free and it was incessantly annoying. Though the only one I trust 100% on skincare on RUclips is Dr. Dray period. She doesn’t hold back at all. The “top 3” people tend to praise are Susan Yara, Hyram and some guy named James who aren’t certified doctors or anything within the medical field. And they all recommend fragrance, dyes and a multitude of unnecessary and highly irritable ingredients. Hyram always makes sly remarks towards Dr. Dray and her repeat of no fragrance. It’s always “if you don’t mind it..” fragrance is no good no matter what. It’s the main cause of contact dermatitis and the most likely reason people go to the derm is because of contact dermatitis due to fragrance sensitivity over time. Cassandra has good input much more than those other three who still agree with fragrance and what not.

Hyram is, and as far as I can tell has been for at least a year or so, super anti-fragrance and talks about irritable ingredients, etc. (he constantly laments fragrance ingredients in products). but (as he states in nearly every video) he's not an esthetician nor a dermatologist so he doesn't know best, nor does he claim to. I've also heard him love on Dr Dray a couple times, so maybe you're basing this on older videos of his? (people do change their minds over time). And James is okay with fragrance for himself to a certain extent, but he also always mentions it in case you have an issue with it
Trishna Chandarana Still Dr. Dray doesn’t recommend but insist you stay away from fragrance at all costs. She is after all a board certified derm. And no he recently posted a story regarding something that hinted towards Dr. Dray. He doesn’t even follow her on social media because he doesn’t agree with a literal board certified dermatologist. He’s ripped off many of her videos. Fragrance is the main cause of contact dermatitis and the number one reason many go to a derm is because of contact dermatitis due to fragrance use. To recommend or even say it’s okay even slightly is highly ill advised for people who aren’t even board certified. He’s like eating soup with a fork. It’s a utensil but not the right one. I’ve watched a few of his vids and he’s just cringe with his ripping off other derms and not practicing what he preaches. I tell everyone to steer clear from his recommendations he never sticks to his own because he is not a certified derm and always changes his stances.
People need to remember that Dr. Dray tests out things people ask for (and some arent cruelty free) but also mainly keeps things as basic/simple as possible. She also gives affordable options etc. If you check the description box she mentions alternatives and some of them are cruelty free... I get why people talks about her being basic and trying different things but she is being realistic. Many people cant afford many of the popular things that become trendy or they dont have the time for too long of a routine. She is a very simple + realistic person and I think thats why it works.
So I wonder- she talks about A LOT of skin care products. There is no way she has time to try all those products for a significant amount of time. IMHO

Dr Dray talks about ingredients, what might be helpful or not, reviews products, has one or two snide comments about certain brands, or shares mundane but fun stuff like her finds shopping at Costco but I don’t recall her going around talking about or reacting to other channels and that is great. That is one reason I enjoy watching her videos. Wish others would do the same and stick with reviewing or reacting to products, not other RUclipsrs because frankly, to do so is boring and unhelpful.

Its not the only thing I'm mad about. We all know Dr.Dray loves function of beauty for her hair. I haven't yet come across recommendations for another brand she has done (feel free to recommend in case I missed). Yet Function of Beauty had the AUDACITY to partner with Cassandra on a video that is dragging Dr.Dray by the hair. It's ridiculous.

@@YFL.111 I get what you mean. However, she does mention that, as long as you’re wearing some protection, it’s better than nothing. Reason being why it’s good to reapply is because when you move around your sweat may rub it off, and it comes off over time. You can reapply whenever you deem necessary. She does it more frequently, I think because she may be somewhat OCD, but don’t quote me on that.

Mandated animal testing in medicine does not justify animal testing in every other area of life where it’s not legally required. I have to agree picking on Dr Dray because she isn't using only vegan products shouldn't be a picking point. It should be that the products are good, affordable and facts focused.

If there isn't a vegan choice, a consumer can Google vegan cruelty free oil based cleanser. @raymond ron constructive criticism often doesn't come with a side of attitude and undertones are really disliking someone else. Constructive criticism comes with respect and a desire to help out someone in your field. Constructive criticism does not mock, it does not rant, it does not deviate from points initially made and go off at length on other points indicating miscommunication. Science has its faults, yes. But constructive criticism in any industry can be handled with at least a modicum of respect and what I've already mentioned. Pulling faces and mockery and every thing else you see (being socially aware and having a general amount of EQ, you can see the mannerisms and undertones in this video, I think most people pick up in these things.) So it's very easy to see that actually this aesthetician either really disliked Dr Dray, and/or dislikes people who have "proper" qualifications in the industry. She clearly has a chip in her shoulder about being an aesthetician. And that's HER problem to sort out herself, it shouldn't be made clear in a really unprofessional way like this.

You have a voice - you wonderfully demonstrated and shared this, and it's fantastic! And don't forget : everyone has their ability to choose. I prefer cruelty free vegan products too. But that doesn't mean as soon as I watch Dr Dray, I become brainwashed. I stick to my ideals and my preferences and I use my critical thinking skills - as you yourself just demonstrated - to say : okay, I'll look out for a product like this. Or with this ingredient, or a product that has a similar function to what Dr Dray is talking about. So, yes it's a shame that Dr Dray doesn't mention purely CF and vegan products, but remember, others that watch her may not have the financial ability to choose CF, Vegan products. BUT. For those that do. We can use her skincare advice and apply her facts when we are browsing for products that fit our own ethics and morals. First and foremost Dr Drays job is advising us on skincare. Not about ethics. (Yes, others mention both. But that's out of choice. Some people don't like having political or ethical discussions on social media). Remember, you have a voice, others have their voice. And the best way to use it (in terms of products) is to vote with our money, choose to buy CF and vegan products. Outside of that, researching politicians and their stance on animal and human rights and their voting history, and then voting in elections, is another way to use our voice.

Cassandra has a really strong point: Dr Dray is a vegan. However, dr Dray being a vegan a way of weight control (orhorexia) and not being anti-animal cruelty. Dray's 'what she eats' vid are about eatng a lot of and low cal meals, and ways to feel full.
I totally agree with Cassandra, I love dr dray but I find some of her content useless because I wont use products tested on animals. Cassandra has a really good point! So many people are CF now & vegan for ethical reasons, so if dr dray recommended more CF products it would help a lot more people xx

@@YFL.111 who? sorry i didn't watch the video lol. but that's not how it works, it is recommended to reapply all sunscreen of all spf levels around every 2 hours when outside. when indoors, try to go for that point, but it's more reasonable to reapply every 3-5 hours indoors.

hey Cassandra, please be more careful about the way you use ‘ocd’- it is frequently used as an adjective to describe people who are tidy which takes away from the seriousness of the actual illness and further stigmatizes it, because on top of that it is far more than being afraid of germs, only some people with ocd have that type, different types often include different methods of self harm and it can be very debilitating, my personal struggle with it has been a hard one especially seeing a lot of people around me didn’t understand what was going on because it didn’t present as being tidy, I wish you luck with further educating yourself

As a vegan I really don’t think this was an effective way to get people to consider cruelty free options. CF products are often more expensive and less widely available. I understand your passion but the condescending tone of this video is likely going to make people feel attacked, I mean I felt like I was being confronted and I’ve been using only cruelty free products for over 5 years now. I often hear vegans on RUclips say / imply how “easy” it is to be vegan and go cruelty free and I find it kind of insulting. It isn’t easy for those of us who don’t have a ton of disposable income or live in certain regions. It takes time, dedication and will power. I’m happy to do it for the animals and the environment but that’s a personal decision I’ve made and not everyone has the same resources as me. Dr Dray provides her audience affordable and clinically proven recommendations to many of whom can’t afford to ever see a dermatologist in real life. Especially in the US were healthcare is so expensive and inaccessible this can be so impactful for so many people dealing with skin issues which often affects their mental health. It’s easy to say spend $10 more per a skincare step when that $10 isn’t much to you but for many it is. (especially with skincare since it’s something you have to keep repurchasing) I’m no dermatologist but if anyone is looking for cheaper cruelty free options I would suggest The Inkey List, The Ordinary and the newer products from Elf. I know these aren’t available everywhere but if they are near you i would highly recommend! ☺️
There’s a difference between cruelty free products and vegan as well. Cruelty free only means it wasn’t tested on animals, but it could still contain animal by-products and animals could have been hurt in the process of making the products and still be considered cruelty free. And she doesn’t mention this at all.

@@rosemary.-6576 CeramedX is the Cetaphil and Cerave cruelty free equivalent. I think with that company it's a matter of getting bang for your buck - and they're kind enough to give three trial sized products to try for a decently cheap price.
You can’t put your own ethical issues onto someone else. Dr. Dray is recommending products for all classes even the lower classes, no one can realistically accommodate “cruelty free” products with a low wage income as companies have not moved forward with it. You should encourage your own followers to sign petitions to make companies become cruelty free instead of coming at a dermatologist. Also, the gestures you were making when she was talking about under eye cream was totally disrespectful and making motions that’s she’s “still talking”. Though that eye cream has those ingredients she wouldn’t recommend something harmful. YOU CANT GET RID OF DARK CIRCLES WRINKLES ETC. But she’s giving you the option to use an eye cream with spf as a preventative and as a tool under makeup or without makeup to brighten up the eye area with the peachy pigment with the additives in that product. You suggesting that the under eye cream isn’t beneficial or doesn’t do anything to dark circles or wrinkles makes no sense, because those are things you physically can’t get rid of through creams. Her option was just beneficial but you just came across as being passive aggressive and then switched it up with a smile claiming she’s right.
Love you girl, but I will say that Dr. Dray’s recommendations are evidence-based and have peer reviewed science backing them. Skincare research is not as prolific/well-funded as many other fields, which is why there are so few products with unbiased evidence supporting their use in many different populations. I’m also not going to lecture about petrolatum or mineral oil, because it seems others have addressed its sustainability over low-yield plant oils. One last note though, the reef-safe issue is very poorly substantiated by science. There have not been studies to demonstrate damage to coral reefs by chemical sunscreens at typical concentrations and in the wild, rather than in a lab. I only say these things because I know you love to see all kinds of perspectives. I am giving you my perspective as a pharmacist, as I have to make skincare recommendations regularly. I’m not saying I’m right, I’m just sharing my thoughts. It’s hard to find a balance between ethics and efficacy, (not to mention economics) and I am happy to see you taking feedback and trying to always do better. ❤️❤️

Why is it that people who have the least/most basic level of training and knowledge in a particular field so easily call themselves "experts"? I am sorry but your expertise being an esthetician is JUST not comparable to an MD or a PhD who has spent most of their lives in school and training in highly COMPETITIVE fields. Not everyone can just "become" an MD or a PhD, as it's extremely difficult to get into medical schools or purse PhD in science but everyone can definitely get through "esthetician" school. Personally, I don't always give people with official credentials the most trust all the time. Like, I've seen numerous people with doctorates being dumber than my mom and even my dad and they only have bachelors. It's all case by case. On top of that, traditionally as far as I know the doctors or any professionals who feature in "shows" often aren't the "best" per se. But obviously we do have true gems like Dr Dray or Nai (the golden rx), which is why at the end of the day we need to watch and critically assess whether someone and their information is worth our time. It's been less than a month since I learned about Cassandra Bankson and I honestly thought many of her videos were decently helpful (seemed more professional than Hyram or James at the least) but this video, while not the worst thing in the world, grinded my gears in most of the parts that annoyed me the most and for that reason I have unsubscribed. I cannot care for her credentials really, but what I do know is that her standards probably don't align well with mine while Dr Dray's does. Cassandra's videos are way more entertaining in general but seems like it can get biased(which I value a lot from youtube videos) while Dr Dray's are very informative and manages to be neutral in tone (important but sometimes gets me snoozing) and my ethics, morals, values aligns with Dr Dray more than Cassandra so yeah. That's my two cents in the matter.

Honestly not here to spread hate or anything, I watched one of your other videos and enjoyed the information you were giving and decided to click onto another video (this one). I quickly realized that although you are indeed an expert in your field and have been in the industry many years, it seems like (in this video at least) you don't act like it. The fact that you felt the need to film an entire video trying to drag a medical professional who not only has years of experience but 12+ years of pure training under her belt (more in-depth than your training, sorry just pure facts) and you had to speak in such a condescending tone about every little thing that she did in her skincare routine, including being obnoxiously offended that she doesn't cater to every single belief you have (offering cruelty free alternatives, which are actually quite hard to find in effective and reasonably priced products). This entire video was just distasteful and honestly made you look spiteful and almost dare I say jealous at someone who is an actual board certified dermatologist. I am not trying to be rude or mean in any type of way, this is just how this entire video came across to a new viewer like me who doesn't know who you are, and I really think you should truly humble yourself. I'm a broke college student and I live in a 3rd world country, so a lot of the products you recommend just aren't accessible to me, and even if they were, I simply can't afford them. DR Dray's product recommendations however tend to be on products that are affordable, and accessible to me (brands like Cerave, La Roche Posay, Avéne, Neutrogena...) and they tend to generally work. What I like about Dr Dray's videos is other than the clear fact that they are educational and informative, she also favours doing the bare minimum to one's skin and she doesn't push using excessive amounts of products. I guess my main point is that while heeding ethical considerations is great and noble, you should also consider the fact that a lot of the products you show just aren't affordable nor accessible to some of your viewers.

The cost of a lot of cruelty-free products is prohibitive for a lot of people. It's awesome that Dray makes an effort to point out basic and inexpensive alternatives. I use a few things from the Ordinary that I really like. I don't know if that's an option for you but if not we do the best we can with what we have until things start to change :)

Because of all these RUclips self made skincare gurus I never bought the Neutrogena Oil Free Acne Wash with 2% Salicylic acid. They all said it was striping and too harsh to be used even on oily skin. Bruh after about ten "gentle/hydrating" washes for months, I finally risked buying the Neutrogena, And boy how wrong I was, it worked like a charm. My never ending toxic relationship with acne came to an end. I still have issues because of my hormones but it has done A LOT! that's when I realised all money wasted on ethical, sustainable, fair trade etc etc was doing nothing for me if it doesn't suit me. And guess who recommended the Neutrogena one 🤗 yes Dr.Dray.
I think Cassandra is pointing out more the lack of option for cruelty free, like, Dr Dray is recommrnding non cruelty free, but could ALSO give cruelty free option, but isn't.

Seasoned professional? Where are her degrees? Where is her practice and how are her patients reviews of her? How often does she see them? If she cant be transparent about her practice (which I doubt she even has) then she needs to stop making ridiculous claims. With the eye sunscreen, she said she likes it because it acts as a concealer as well. Dr. Dray does not support the use of eye creams in general if you watch her videos.
And because most sunscreens can be irritating around the eyes so she uses that one bc it is free of certain ingredients

I agree! Dr.Dray does mention in her videos that she uses tinted sunscreens in place of other makeup like foundation and concealer. People should not get so triggered by the mere mention of the word "eye cream".

I’m so annoyed at the fact she made those hand gestures mocking Dr. Dray (even if she wasn’t actually). She obviously was not listening to her or watched the rest of the video to make that comment. She was suggesting it as a concealer and a preventative, in no way do eye creams get rid of dark circles or wrinkles but that’s not what Dr. Dray was saying or vocalized. Honestly, I decided to watch this out of curiosity to see how you broke down an actual DERMATOLOGIST skin care routine. The reason so many people love & respect Dr. Dray is her ability to recommend so many affordable skincare products that actually work. Her channel has grown exponentially in a short time for that reason.
Unfortunately your recommendations are generally very pricey and based only on your ethical views. It is your channel and therefore your choice as to what to promote.
As one of the few actual DERMATOLOGIST on RUclips many of us love her advice on skincare!

Dear Cassandra,
1. Dr. Dray has mentioned several times that she only has a plant-based diet and never identifies herself as a true vegan. Why does she have to recommend vegan alternatives for products when she doesn't really identify herself as a vegan? (No wonder we vegans get so much hate.)
2. Dr. Dray has already said in a few of her videos that - according to her, there isn't enough evidence to prove that chemical sunscreen filters actually damage coral reefs and that several of those studies actually have massive loopholes. Hence, she doesn't feel the need to stop using filters touted as being dangerous for the reefs.
3. Dr. Dray has also repeatedly mentioned that just because she's using a product currently doesn't mean she would recommend it to others. She gets sent a shit load of products to try (like all RUclipsrs do) by companies, subscribers, in subscription boxes, etc. and she tries to use up as many products as possible because just throwing it away for not being vegan/free of irritating ingredients/unethical is wasteful and way worse for the environment than using a product/brand you don't really agree with.
These are just my two cents - no offense intended. I really didn't want to comment but I felt like I needed to this time.
Also Dr Dray has done at least 2 videos where she boxes up heaps of 'gently' used & brand new skincare & she sends it to women who are living in shelters because of various kinds of abuse & she briefly talks about each brand as she's packing it. I found them to be very interesting even though I'm in the UK & many of them aren't available here (or weren't then). But how nice for those women getting some fab skincare to use & call their own. Some walk in with nothing but the clothes on their backs. She's very kind & thoughtful.

This was such a respectful comment in a sea of rabid dr stay stans lol It's definitely more ethical to just use products that you have vs. throwing them out, however she's still contributing to the sales of a product that is not cruelty free or vegan, and people take Dr dray's word for gospel sometimes. So I can understand why a vegan would find that unethical. Overall imo Cassandra has a point, if Dr Dray could at least just recommend a cruelty free option next to the products she uses and recommends it would be nice and helpful for her viewers! She's a medical professional and can be expected to recommend products that are tried and tested on herself or patients - instead of random vegan options she doesn't even use or believe in.
This might just be me but when an incredible dermatologist goes out of her way to offer the world free skincare advice, I gladly take what I can get (and implement as per my own strict vegan standards) instead of questioning her PERSONAL lifestyle choices and morals. It would be extremely hypocritical of me to expect a non-vegan doctor to provide vegan options when the information is being provided free of cost. I would only feel ENTITLED to vegan options if I were paying a dermatologist to recommend them.

And also, most of the products Cassandra are hard to find in my country or 3x more expensive, for example, the ordinary is generally a lot more expensive in my country, their peeling solution costs like 7.5 dollar last time I checked, while in my country the cheapest I’ve been able to find the product is at almost 25 dollars. And that’s just without taking in to account the fact that in my country the minimal wage is of around 250 dollar per month and most people don’t even reach that minimum wage. So while I appreciate what she stands for and while I try to use mostly cruelty free products, we shouldn’t judge people for using them, no one knows what the other is living through.

You can't critisise someone's skincare routine for not being cruelty free. That's like reviewing a chef's recipe and saying 'I don't like it because it' s not vegan'. Okay... But they never said it was? You didn't talk about the actual food at all. You can say you'd prefer cruelty free. But that's a lifestyle choice. It has no relevance to the actual food/skincare (btw, I'm an advocate for cruelty free, I'm just pointing out the obvious flaw in that argument).

Often times you have to buy certain foods and supplements to keep you on par with someone who eats meat and gets a good amount of their nutrients from meat and dairy. Veggies and fruit are not enough, nuts are EXPENSIVE, tofu, plant milks, and special vegan packaged foods are growing in demand + becoming more expensive. And depending on the state and city you live in being veganism becomes an expensive luxury. I live in Boston and being vegan here is not cheap...
A lot of vegans under eat , when you're vegan you have to actually eat twice as much to reach your caloric and nutritional threshold and that honestly adds up on a weekly basis. This is coming from an ex vegan that developed an eating disorder and got severely ill.

Aestheticians need to stop doing these videos on dermatologists. I’m a molecular biologist and I trained intensely for 8 years to do my job and have multiple years of experience.
When I finished my degree I felt very confident and qualified. After my masters, I realised that I wasn’t as knowledgeable as I thought I was. Now with a doctorate I’ve never been more humble. I’m as qualified as one can get in the industry and I realise now that we as people know very little. I remember my lecturer in the first year saying “you will become a scientist when you realise how much you don’t know. What I lacked after my undergraduate degree was critical thinking and the ability to apply science outside of the box.
That’s the sense I get with aestheticians when I see videos of them criticising Dermatologists or claiming that they are a in different field.
Sometimes people don’t know what they don’t know hence why they are overly confident to criticise people who are more qualified than they are without critical thinking.
Love this. The more educated I am, I more humble I become. There is so much we don’t actually know.

Mrs Bankson is well aware and has mentioned before that she is not in a position to challenge Dr. Dray's medical knowledge, and she never has before. Did you actually *watch* the video?

I’ve only seen a few reviews of function of beauty that were not sponsored and the majority of them claim that after using it for an extended period of time, it was making a significant amount of their hair fall out or otherwise damaging it. I would love an unsponsored video in the future if that’s possible.

I heard that it was linked to their due formula, but hair naturally falls out. I have a significant amount of hair that falls out because of how long I wait in between shampoos. I’ve also heard most people say it made them decide to wait a longer period of time in between the shampoos which can increase the amount of hair that comes out. Also how often you brush ur hair and so on. So many different factors play in to that as well. Hope that helps a lil bit!

This happened to me!!!! I chose it because it offered sulfate free dye free and scent free and even a silicone free option. But it made my hair try tangly and a mess. It’s not necessarily worth it. It lets you choose 5 hair goals but there are no restrictions. Chemically it doesnt make sense for it to claim to respond to each of these goals individually.

This is my biggest issues with the vegan community, you’re never vegan enough. It gets really annoying fast hearing ‘not cruelty free’ 1000x times. What does that even mean? Cruelty towards the animals? The workers in the factories? The workers who mine the raw material? There’s no way that stream is completely‘cruelty free’. :S Also like others already pointed out these items are super expensive, cheaper alternatives are a must.

It is also ironic that most vegan(not tested on animals) products seems to be more costly compared to the products that aren't vegan when people say left and right that currently we have enough technology to make products without having to test on animals. You'd think the process of testing the products on animals will take more time and money and thus will increase the pricing, but that doesn't happen. In addition, I have to agree with the cruelty free aspect of the term. There really isn't a clear guide to what it means legally and I personally will be disappointed if cruelty free only applies animals and not people cuz news flash, even if animals are important as well and your pets are too, human lives and the human friends you have ought to be more important.

Dermatologists recommend mineral oil because it's anallergic, while vegetal ones aren't, doesn't go rancid and is a good barrier for skin. Dr. Dray too talked about this on a video.
I love that you brought this up because I have skin that’s so sensitive that the only moisturizer I can use is mineral oil based. I’m allergic to latex, salicylates and benzenes and oxalates so plant oils are NOT compatible with my skin. Acting like coconut oil or vegetable oils are just as good as mineral oil is hella privileged and extremely uninformed.
I know absolutely nothing about skincare and I really don’t like Cassandra’s tone here, but for some reason, mineral oil breaks me out in cysts, I have no idea why. Ugh.

I respect Dr. Dray because while she may be vegan she doesn’t push that on us and uses products that work for her and make sense. Just because your vegan and want cruelty free doesn’t mean everyone does or can afford it. Also "Cruelty Free" is NOT regulated or enforced by anyone. Companies can get away with misleading and deceiving cruelty-free claims because there are no standard or legal definitions for the term 'cruelty-free'. Sadly, the FDA does not regulate or monitor the 'cruelty-free' label so companies can use them in whichever way they want. Nobody knows what people are going through behind the scenes - whether it’s genetic, mental, cancer, other disorders etc. If she hasn’t brought it up, it’s probably something she doesn’t want addressed. I of course want people to get help if they need it, but something I have learned throughout the years changed me in a funny way. I have not been diagnosed with an eating disorder, or heart condition or metabolic condition that causes my body to process nutrients differently.
I have dated women in the past who have struggled with eating disorders. Although I can sympathize with them, I could not empathize with them. What I learned from those relationships is that comments, constructive or positive, can often do more harm than help.
Even kind or positive words get twisted in peoples minds and can often lead to worse outcomes. For me, it’s strange and counterintuitive but it’s something I respect.
*Again, not saying or insinuating there is an Ed or any condition here because we have no idea, and honestly it’s none of our business what people‘s medical history is*

Unless she makes it my business, it’s not my place to discuss. I’ve said it in the comments multiple times, that I don’t block people - they can call me names, rude things etc. but I believe in freedom of speech.
That being said, anytime a comment attacks someone else, for their race, religion, sexuality, appearance, or other things of that nature, there is no doubt that they are blocked.
It’s not OK to judge and disrespect people for their differences. I do believe that most comments come from a place of kindness and compassion, but I think it’s important to remember that things can be taken out of context and hurt overall.

I agree with making cream which arent natural hundred per cent but sunscreen every hours feels too much like going agaisnt nature to me.
Unfortunately most of the products you’ve recommended are expensive. Super goop is expensive compared to other sunscreens. I get where you are coming from, I’m a vegan my self and love animals.But Dr Dray looks at skin care products from a physician point of view. Unfortunately I have found my self that many vegan skin care products are loaded with essential oils that are highly irritating to the skin, needless to say pricey.
the ordinary is vegan and their products are not loaded with essential oils tho :) cosrx, purito and klairs are cruelty free and mostly vegan too and many products are really affordable, they have fragrance free options (especially on yesstyle)
Sophie , unfortunately the ordinary sells what is considered to be raw skin care products, meaning, each product contains a single ingredient required in a skin care formula that will benefit your skin care. For instance, niacinamide or Ascorbic acid in their purest states without any other additives. The Ordinary is giving the consumer the job to play the roll of chemist as the application of some of these ingredients alone will cause severe irritation. There is a reason why skin care pharmaceutical companies hired chemist to measure the ratio of ingredients before putting a product in the market.
ELF is all vegan and has some skin care options. Jason and Dessert Essence have fragrance free options. Inkey list and The Ordinary are also cruelty free. I know it can be hard to find so let's support each other in finding cheap vegan options!
Fenty has a new sunscreen/moisturizer and it’s around $35 and the bottle is huge which makes it worth the price in my opinion also adding the fact that it doesn’t have a white cast. I’m not sure if the ingredients are cruelty free or vegan friendly so you would have to look it up.

Dr dray’s whole platform is helping people find effective beauty products that everyone can afford and find at local retail outlets. Her platform is not cruelty free or “clean”, so if that’s really important to you she’s probably not for you. She has done several cruelty free videos, but it’s not her focus. Her focus is fragrance free, non-irritating formulas and the importance of sunscreen. I think it’s a little unfair to criticize her so intensely for something that just isn’t her platform.
But she’s vegan, and this is HER routine, not just a recommendation video. Just sounds hypocritical to be using products from brands that literally test on animals then claim to be vegan. I understand why some people would use them, price wise etc, but I’m sure she’s rich enough to afford more ethic products.
@@mandarina4157 i agree that it is hypocritical of Dr Dray from a personal standpoint, but her channel is really about education and showing how almost anyone can purchase good quality skin care products at an affordable price. Personally I find it refreshing that she doesn’t push her veganism onto everyone watching her channel though I’ve noticed in more recent videos she always includes a cruelty-free option at the end, usually at a higher price point. Also, if you watch this video you’ll see that it’s not just “oh she’s being a little hypocritical here” it’s a constant eye roll of criticism. I personally found it off-putting, even though I try to choose cruelty-free products myself.

Dr Dray actually does recommend many vegan and cruelty free products when they exist and could be alternative to some not cruelty free ones in many her videos, no matter whether she uses only cruelty free products or not. As an youtuber, she is testing a lot of products for review and she probably changes her routine constantly. She moved on to other cleansers already. If you watch her empties video you would know.

Like I don’t get why people who only have an interest in skincare have to make comments against doctors that know what they are doing. Cass is a medical aesthetician; therefore, she is also qualified to discuss skin care. She's not just a hobbyist. Aestheticians (more so than dermatologists) are the ones who usually look into skin care actives and off-the-shelf products. Dermatologists are doctors and they learn about skin care illnesses, it's not a dermatologist's job to understand skin care formulations. My point being: Yes, Dr Dray obviously has a lot of experience in skin care, but so does Cass. I'm a computer engineer, and guess what? Despite the fact that I am an expert in my field, I also occassionally receive criticism from physicists and programmers. Being an expert in your field is great, but you might not be the only expert. Give Cass some credit, she also has 10 years experience in the line of skin care.
As a physician, I am deeply disappointed in all the disrespectful attitude towards a certified dermatologist, who makes products recommendations based on scientific evidence and the cost-benefit that implies adherence and better results. Also, how absurd to recommend a papaya cleanser, instead of the inexpensive and effective alternative of Ponds. Just because it isn’t cruelty free. Papaya is a highly allergenic fruit... Anyways, everyone should evaluate what kind of influencers they follow. I definitely will NOT follow such irony and unfounded disrespect.
Karla Alejandra. Recommending animal cruelty is not being a good influence. Some people have basic ethics. Many poor people care about animals, assuming low income people want to cruel to animals is also messed up. Just recommend cheap cruelty-free products.
I believe she is draging Dr. dray for no valid reason and she is not a doctor herself, and actually esteticiants as her, not her, ruined my skin more oftenly, as on the other hand dermatologists are doctors and know much more not only about the skin, but about health. She is recomending coconut oil, how can it even be recommended for people with sensitive and oily skin... Just use simple skincare. Cleanser, cream, spf and one active at a time, that's all

Wow, those are some ridiculous prices. There are far cheaper cruelty free products like The Inkey List, The Ordinary, elf, St. Ives, and even Dove has a cruelty free label on it now. Cassandra needs to recommend cheaper cruelty free alternatives if they are even available.

I always used baby oil, a cheap lotion or conditioner to remove my make up esp eye makeup. I never bought into the pricey make up removers but if someone wants to that is cool. Just not for me.
@@nikkib473 I have sensitive eyes and I use the generic Amazon eye makeup remover, and it works perfect even on waterproof mascara. I can't imagine spending so much money on something that's immediately washed down the drain.

Dr dray typically isn’t a fan of eye creams and thinks they’re useless. It looks like the only reason she’s using that product is because she’s basically using it as a concealer. So it’s not that it’s an spf or cream just for the eyes, it’s that she’s using the tint as a concealer, and because it has sunscreen & is more of a tint. she probably prefers that to an actual under eye concealer.
Yes exactly! I don't think that Dr Dray likes makeup. The only real makeup item that she uses is mascara, but other than that she uses tinted sunscreen as "foundation" which is kinda funny to me bc I used to wear a lot of makeup (typically concealer) to get some coverage for my pimples, and tinted sunscreen barely does anything. I like the point you made because context is everything!

The more I see of Cassandra the more I am starting to become frustrated at the gimmicky push she gives for “cruelty free.” If people would please look into “cruelty free” they would see it almost does not exist. Also, what do you take issue with? Treatment of workers in factories? The workers who mine the raw materials? Where does cruelty end? There’s no way that products are 100% cruelty free. Or do you take issue with animal testing? Which is NOT how these “influencers” make it out to be. As a researcher, and specifically a neuroscientist, from a safety standpoint you want products that will not be harmful in the long run. If not for animal testing, we would not have the studies that have been published indicating which ingredients are harmful to humans whether it be topically, or carcinogens, etc. Also, research performed at academic institutions or otherwise are performed according to IACUC standards where a group of researchers, veterinarians, and everyday citizens will review the research protocols that are proposed to ensure animals will not be exposed to undue suffering, meaning care is taken to minimize any pain or suffering to the animals. If there is pain or suffering to the animals and the research is not impactful, the studies do not happen because the IACUC protocols are not approved. Also, as a researcher who performed neuroscience research on rodents, at our AALAC accredited institution, veterinarians check the animals daily to ensure they are healthy, are not exhibiting pain, etc. Any rat that is exhibiting any health issues are treated appropriately. Also animals are used for as many studies as possible to maximize research and minimize the number of animals used. There are guidelines that are followed by the institution with the care of animals, and if they are not followed, the veterinarian will report the researcher to the NIH, and their NIH funding and ability to conduct research will be revoked. Researchers cannot get away with unapproved harming of animals without serious repercussions, and there are many checks and balances in place, so people should educate themselves and realize that this fear mongering whether it is by influencers, brands or even PETA (don’t get me started on how unethical this organization/thing is) is typically a marketing/sales ploy.

While I respect the opinions expressed in this video, Dr Dray recommends AFFORDABLE and ACCESSIBLE products. It would be nice if there were more accessible and affordable and affective, cruelty free options but unfortunately there is not. And to be honest not everyone is willing to risk using coconut oil on their face. So to each their own. Not everyone wants to pay that kind of money for the more “ethical”, “vegan” products especially in this day and time where most people need to save a penny and their face!
I couldn’t agree with you more on this! And thank you for bringing this up, and back to the forefront of my attention. You’re totally right - it’s so frustrating, even when I’m trying to find duplicates for some of the drugstore favorites, to see the ridiculous prices of some of these things - identical ingredients, but what is cruelty free and cost three times as much. Hopefully this is something that the industry can fix super soon!
Affordable not so much! Function of beauty cost 60€ for a standard pair of shampoo and conditioner, it's not so cheap.

I find it weird that cruelty free and vegan skin care products are uncommon in drugstores in the US. Here in Korea, they are absolutely common. And they're very affordable as well. I heard from Americans in a Facebook skincare group I'm in that Walmart sells some Korean skin care products. And that their prices are affordable. I hope it can be helpful to some of you all.

Dr. Dray would never make a video like this. So many things you said was so offputting. Dr. Dray has helped so many people with affordable alternatives. Not everyone can afford to buy expensive stuff. She cannot accomodate everyone. And to spam her comment section is just ridiculous. It pisses med off that you actually get pissed of by her choices and content. It is HER channel, not yours. You can decide what your content is, but SHE, and only her decides her content. I support Dr. Dray and trust that she does what she can to accomodate as many of us as possible. She is the best one on RUclips by far.

Mineral oil breaks me out while coconut oil doesn’t, for example. And I only use it as my eye makeup remover not for the whole face! :)
I've been using mineral oil (baby oil) as a makeup remover for years and it is the best EVER. It removes waterproof mascara effortlessly and my stubborn foundation so easily. And I use a salicylic acid foundation so you know that stuff is like a tattoo on your face lol. But I will give micellar water a try since it's popular. I've used countless makeup removers and nothing holds a candle to mineral oil so far. Of course, it's only amazing as a first step before cleansing, it really lifts everything from the skin.
I tried using coconut oil to remove makeup seeing RUclips and i got those little face bumps on my face.

Before the internet, "basic" meant simple. Less involved. Easily digestible. That's what she means by basic. Not "basic bitch". She is saying basic as in, "this has basic ingredients". Basic - base. Standard. Standard ingredients, nothing more nothing less.

@@fashionovawigs that's not what Susan meant. Even though I trust Dr. Dray, you have to get your license renewed, skin care science is literally changing every week, new things are discovered. So if you were a dermatologist 5 years ago but havent been renewing your license you might be a tiny bit outdated on your knowledge. Of course you can always learn on your own as a professional without the license and just use your background knowledge to guide you to the right directions, but we should be careful regardless. Skin care advice from 2 years ago from a professional will not be as effective as advice from a pro today.

That's what I always said!!! Cruelty free is just not 100% possible in this world. It just isn't and will never be. With that in mind, it's still important that products are not tested on animals and stuff like that, but there is no need to get obsessed over it. I agree :)
Samanta Rizzi I’m not saying it’s impossible, it very much is possible and unfortunately companies that aren’t necessarily currently cruelty free are the ones who have the funds and resources to try and prove to places such as China that have a ‘list’ of tested ingredients to consider finding alternatives for testing. but I’m not going to judge someone for recommending a product that’s good and affordable, it’s more important to recognise when someone’s using fear mongering. It’s such a fascinating but equally frustrating industry especially in America that’s so behind Europe in terms of science and regulations.
@@Gresaaa It's not possible. Again think about where those ingredients come from? Plants? Where do plants grow? In the fields .. so for making those fields what are they doing? They have to make room for it, that way some animals lose their homes, some get killed during this (think about how they cut trees from the forest in order to make room to plant plants that will give the right ingredients to then gain profit with them)... so even if it's a natural ingredient there is no way it could be 100% cruelty free. Nature doesn't work like that. You can have whatever opinion you want I know I'm right about this because we studied these things in school. Obviously Europe is better at the regulations, but we're far from being perfect when it comes to animals and nature! (I'm from Slovenia)

She still gas valuable input regarding skincare. The main thing is she’s going deep with the cruelty free and it was incessantly annoying. Though the only one I trust 100% on skincare on RUclips is Dr. Dray period. She doesn’t hold back at all. The “top 3” people tend to praise are Susan Yara, Hyram and some guy named James who aren’t certified doctors or anything within the medical field. And they all recommend fragrance, dyes and a multitude of unnecessary and highly irritable ingredients. Hyram always makes sly remarks towards Dr. Dray and her repeat of no fragrance. It’s always “if you don’t mind it..” fragrance is no good no matter what. It’s the main cause of contact dermatitis and the most likely reason people go to the derm is because of contact dermatitis due to fragrance sensitivity over time. Cassandra has good input much more than those other three who still agree with fragrance and what not.
N H I haven't watched Susan but at least as far as hyram goes, he's always preaching no fragrance. James is okay with it in wash off treatments.

Hyram is, and as far as I can tell has been for at least a year or so, super anti-fragrance and talks about irritable ingredients, etc. (he constantly laments fragrance ingredients in products). but (as he states in nearly every video) he's not an esthetician nor a dermatologist so he doesn't know best, nor does he claim to. I've also heard him love on Dr Dray a couple times, so maybe you're basing this on older videos of his? (people do change their minds over time). And James is okay with fragrance for himself to a certain extent, but he also always mentions it in case you have an issue with it
Trishna Chandarana Still Dr. Dray doesn’t recommend but insist you stay away from fragrance at all costs. She is after all a board certified derm. And no he recently posted a story regarding something that hinted towards Dr. Dray. He doesn’t even follow her on social media because he doesn’t agree with a literal board certified dermatologist. He’s ripped off many of her videos. Fragrance is the main cause of contact dermatitis and the number one reason many go to a derm is because of contact dermatitis due to fragrance use. To recommend or even say it’s okay even slightly is highly ill advised for people who aren’t even board certified. He’s like eating soup with a fork. It’s a utensil but not the right one. I’ve watched a few of his vids and he’s just cringe with his ripping off other derms and not practicing what he preaches. I tell everyone to steer clear from his recommendations he never sticks to his own because he is not a certified derm and always changes his stances.
People need to remember that Dr. Dray tests out things people ask for (and some arent cruelty free) but also mainly keeps things as basic/simple as possible. She also gives affordable options etc. If you check the description box she mentions alternatives and some of them are cruelty free... I get why people talks about her being basic and trying different things but she is being realistic. Many people cant afford many of the popular things that become trendy or they dont have the time for too long of a routine. She is a very simple + realistic person and I think thats why it works.
So I wonder- she talks about A LOT of skin care products. There is no way she has time to try all those products for a significant amount of time. IMHO

Dr Dray talks about ingredients, what might be helpful or not, reviews products, has one or two snide comments about certain brands, or shares mundane but fun stuff like her finds shopping at Costco but I don’t recall her going around talking about or reacting to other channels and that is great. That is one reason I enjoy watching her videos. Wish others would do the same and stick with reviewing or reacting to products, not other RUclipsrs because frankly, to do so is boring and unhelpful.

I haven't yet come across recommendations for another brand she has done (feel free to recommend in case I missed). Yet Function of Beauty had the AUDACITY to partner with Cassandra on a video that is dragging Dr.Dray by the hair. It's ridiculous.

@@YFL.111 I get what you mean. However, she does mention that, as long as you’re wearing some protection, it’s better than nothing. Reason being why it’s good to reapply is because when you move around your sweat may rub it off, and it comes off over time. You can reapply whenever you deem necessary. She does it more frequently, I think because she may be somewhat OCD, but don’t quote me on that.

@raymond ron constructive criticism often doesn't come with a side of attitude and undertones are really disliking someone else. Constructive criticism comes with respect and a desire to help out someone in your field. Constructive criticism does not mock, it does not rant, it does not deviate from points initially made and go off at length on other points indicating miscommunication.
Science has its faults, yes. But constructive criticism in any industry can be handled with at least a modicum of respect and what I've already mentioned. Pulling faces and mockery and every thing else you see (being socially aware and having a general amount of EQ, you can see the mannerisms and undertones in this video, I think most people pick up in these things.)
So it's very easy to see that actually this aesthetician either really disliked Dr Dray, and/or dislikes people who have "proper" qualifications in the industry. She clearly has a chip in her shoulder about being an aesthetician. And that's HER problem to sort out herself, it shouldn't be made clear in a really unprofessional way like this.
I probably would be condescending towards someone too if they were promoting abuse towards animals. Actually I get pretty pissed off and extremely sad when animals are tortured, abused, and killed...but that's just me.

You have a voice - you wonderfully demonstrated and shared this, and it's fantastic! And don't forget : everyone has their ability to choose. I prefer cruelty free vegan products too.
But that doesn't mean as soon as I watch Dr Dray, I become brainwashed. I stick to my ideals and my preferences and I use my critical thinking skills - as you yourself just demonstrated - to say : okay, I'll look out for a product like this. Or with this ingredient, or a product that has a similar function to what Dr Dray is talking about.
So, yes it's a shame that Dr Dray doesn't mention purely CF and vegan products, but remember, others that watch her may not have the financial ability to choose CF, Vegan products. BUT. For those that do. We can use her skincare advice and apply her facts when we are browsing for products that fit our own ethics and morals. First and foremost Dr Drays job is advising us on skincare. Not about ethics. (Yes, others mention both. But that's out of choice. Some people don't like having political or ethical discussions on social media).
Remember, you have a voice, others have their voice. And the best way to use it (in terms of products) is to vote with our money, choose to buy CF and vegan products. Outside of that, researching politicians and their stance on animal and human rights and their voting history, and then voting in elections, is another way to use our voice.

@@YFL.111 who? sorry i didn't watch the video lol. but that's not how it works, it is recommended to reapply all sunscreen of all spf levels around every 2 hours when outside. when indoors, try to go for that point, but it's more reasonable to reapply every 3-5 hours indoors.

hey Cassandra, please be more careful about the way you use ‘ocd’- it is frequently used as an adjective to describe people who are tidy which takes away from the seriousness of the actual illness and further stigmatizes it, because on top of that it is far more than being afraid of germs, only some people with ocd have that type, different types often include different methods of self harm and it can be very debilitating, my personal struggle with it has been a hard one especially seeing a lot of people around me didn’t understand what was going on because it didn’t present as being tidy, I wish you luck with further educating yourself

When I was a student juggling jobs and studies, I couldn’t afford to always go for cruelty free options or high end products. Dr dray saved my skin without making a dent in my pocket. As a vegan I really don’t think this was an effective way to get people to consider cruelty free options. CF products are often more expensive and less widely available. I understand your passion but the condescending tone of this video is likely going to make people feel attacked, I mean I felt like I was being confronted and I’ve been using only cruelty free products for over 5 years now.
I often hear vegans on RUclips say / imply how “easy” it is to be vegan and go cruelty free and I find it kind of insulting. It isn’t easy for those of us who don’t have a ton of disposable income or live in certain regions. It takes time, dedication and will power. I’m happy to do it for the animals and the environment but that’s a personal decision I’ve made and not everyone has the same resources as me.
Dr Dray provides her audience affordable and clinically proven recommendations to many of whom can’t afford to ever see a dermatologist in real life. Especially in the US were healthcare is so expensive and inaccessible this can be so impactful for so many people dealing with skin issues which often affects their mental health. It’s easy to say spend $10 more per a skincare step when that $10 isn’t much to you but for many it is. (especially with skincare since it’s something you have to keep repurchasing)
I’m no dermatologist but if anyone is looking for cheaper cruelty free options I would suggest The Inkey List, The Ordinary and the newer products from Elf. I know these aren’t available everywhere but if they are near you i would highly recommend! ☺️
There’s a difference between cruelty free products and vegan as well. Cruelty free only means it wasn’t tested on animals, but it could still contain animal by-products and animals could have been hurt in the process of making the products and still be considered cruelty free. And she doesn’t mention this at all.
Mostly people looking for affordable drugstore products..in my country in Asia region very expensive for organic vegan cruelty free especially if it's imported or non drugstore..here mostly our priority consumer goods
I've been cruelty free for awhile now, but my skin is very problematic and a lot of cf options don't work for me. I'm slowly having to revert back to non cf :(
@@rosemary.-6576 CeramedX is the Cetaphil and Cerave cruelty free equivalent. I think with that company it's a matter of getting bang for your buck - and they're kind enough to give three trial sized products to try for a decently cheap price.

You can’t put your own ethical issues onto someone else. Dr. Dray is recommending products for all classes even the lower classes, no one can realistically accommodate “cruelty free” products with a low wage income as companies have not moved forward with it. You should encourage your own followers to sign petitions to make companies become cruelty free instead of coming at a dermatologist.
Also, the gestures you were making when she was talking about under eye cream was totally disrespectful and making motions that’s she’s “still talking”. Though that eye cream has those ingredients she wouldn’t recommend something harmful. YOU CANT GET RID OF DARK CIRCLES WRINKLES ETC. But she’s giving you the option to use an eye cream with spf as a preventative and as a tool under makeup or without makeup to brighten up the eye area with the peachy pigment with the additives in that product. You suggesting that the under eye cream isn’t beneficial or doesn’t do anything to dark circles or wrinkles makes no sense, because those are things you physically can’t get rid of through creams. Her option was just beneficial but you just came across as being passive aggressive and then switched it up with a smile claiming she’s right.
I love Cassandra but I agree. Her whole attitude in this video seemed really off-putting compared to her usual respectful nature.

There are HUNDREDS of affordable cruelty free products. You just sound like you’re making excuses for not wanting to buy cruelty free.
Love you girl, but I will say that Dr. Dray’s recommendations are evidence-based and have peer reviewed science backing them. Skincare research is not as prolific/well-funded as many other fields, which is why there are so few products with unbiased evidence supporting their use in many different populations.
I’m also not going to lecture about petrolatum or mineral oil, because it seems others have addressed its sustainability over low-yield plant oils. One last note though, the reef-safe issue is very poorly substantiated by science. There have not been studies to demonstrate damage to coral reefs by chemical sunscreens at typical concentrations and in the wild, rather than in a lab.
I only say these things because I know you love to see all kinds of perspectives. I am giving you my perspective as a pharmacist, as I have to make skincare recommendations regularly. I’m not saying I’m right, I’m just sharing my thoughts. It’s hard to find a balance between ethics and efficacy, (not to mention economics) and I am happy to see you taking feedback and trying to always do better. ❤️❤️

I am sorry but your expertise being an esthetician is JUST not comparable to an MD or a PhD who has spent most of their lives in school and training in highly COMPETITIVE fields. Esheticians do nothing but polish the outside of the skin, they have no real high level knowledge of biochemistry, medicine or pharmaceuticals. The epic snobbery over products is hilarious too, but does betray the rich girl roots. The chick has no idea most working people cannot splash out on her fancy niche vegan products nor do they want to.
Personally, I don't always give people with official credentials the most trust all the time. Like, I've seen numerous people with doctorates being dumber than my mom and even my dad and they only have bachelors. It's all case by case. On top of that, traditionally as far as I know the doctors or any professionals who feature in "shows" often aren't the "best" per se. But obviously we do have true gems like Dr Dray or Nai (the golden rx), which is why at the end of the day we need to watch and critically assess whether someone and their information is worth our time. It's been less than a month since I learned about Cassandra Bankson and I honestly thought many of her videos were decently helpful (seemed more professional than Hyram or James at the least) but this video, while not the worst thing in the world, grinded my gears in most of the parts that annoyed me the most and for that reason I have unsubscribed. I cannot care for her credentials really, but what I do know is that her standards probably don't align well with mine while Dr Dray's does. Cassandra's videos are way more entertaining in general but seems like it can get biased(which I value a lot from youtube videos) while Dr Dray's are very informative and manages to be neutral in tone (important but sometimes gets me snoozing) and my ethics, morals, values aligns with Dr Dray more than Cassandra so yeah. That's my two cents in the matter.

That still doesn't change the fact that they have toiled much harder through a very rigorous selection process and level of training. This girl titles every video as "specialist reacts to" which is what I have a problem with. It's clear that she googles stuff and narrates it to camera. Anyone can do that. That combined with her preaching about vegan/clean products to a point of being obnoxious and self righteous makes her a privileged phony.
She literally said she respects and looks up to dr dray. You don’t have to agree with everything someone you look up to 100% of the time. Regardless of credentials. I will forever love dr dray. But she has also kind of been letting me down lately. But I will FOREVER love and support her. 🤘

What works for one person might not work for the other. Not everyone can use cerave and the ordinary without breaking out.

Honestly not here to spread hate or anything, I watched one of your other videos and enjoyed the information you were giving and decided to click onto another video (this one). I quickly realized that although you are indeed an expert in your field and have been in the industry many years, it seems like (in this video at least) you don't act like it. The fact that you felt the need to film an entire video trying to drag a medical professional who not only has years of experience but 12+ years of pure training under her belt (more in-depth than your training, sorry just pure facts) and you had to speak in such a condescending tone about every little thing that she did in her skincare routine, including being obnoxiously offended that she doesn't cater to every single belief you have (offering cruelty free alternatives, which are actually quite hard to find in effective and reasonably priced products). This entire video was just distasteful and honestly made you look spiteful and almost dare I say jealous at someone who is an actual board certified dermatologist. I am not trying to be rude or mean in any type of way, this is just how this entire video came across to a new viewer like me who doesn't know who you are, and I really think you should truly humble yourself. This was just an extremely bad look on your part, and tbh you lost a potential subscriber (not that it means anything to you, but i'm sure many other people saw this video and had the same experience as me).
