I still have mine after all these years. Thats why Im at your video. I am upgrading it. I already have SSD axels with Vanquish C-hubs along with aluminum links. I also put in all metal gears in an aftermarket aluminum trans case. But after years of use, time for a cleaning. All new bearings. Amazingly the ring and pinion look new both F&R. Im relocating the battery new Goodyear tires to rap around my grearhead aluminum rims. Then I have some scale parts like a back insert from "Scale by Chris" to go where the stock battery used to be. Lastly I am retiring the stock motor and ESC and replacing with a HobbyWing ESC and sensored brushless motor. I still run the polybody on mine but I think Im going to cut the hood and make it seperate from the body and then just velcrl the body semi-permanent. These Wraiths still hold their own on the trails after all these years.
Your updated build sounds awesome! I agree that the Wraith is just a classic platform... I love how the rollcage body looks, you can set it up to crawl or go sorta fast and it's a blast. Mine is halfway through a conversion into becoming a Jeep and it's been living on the shelf because I got distracted by FPV1
I bought a kit, but I can't remember from where, but it's super easy to do... Maybe Google wraith battery front mount kit and see what comes? It's basically just a hinge, some body mounts, pretty simply really.
I just snagged one of these at an estate sale. Original motor and ESC was shot so I threw in a spare Traxxus Velineon for the time being and running it on a 2s system. Probably overkill for a crawler style build but I’m pretty stoked. Just sad it’s hard to find parts for these now lol. Also trying to keep it budget friendlish but this one is sick!
Hey bud, thanks for that! Yes, as far as I remember the front and rear axles on the Wraith are exactly the same, so you can flip them around. Mine was super bullet-proof as a crawler, but as soon as I geared up and ran it on 3s for a little speed, all of the weak points came out and I had to replace a lot of that soft Axial plastic with aluminum...
I went brushless 3s one winter and raised hell in the snow at the church. All that broke was the only gear in the center diff that is plastic. It’s pretty sturdy. I am going to show my free mods one day. Cool rig and amazing ties!!!
I just bought a shelf queen of these off ebay. Never used all upgraded for 500.00 .. love your video. I will definitely add motor of specs u suggest and Electronics. ;)
awesome set up,I just got one in the mail coming to me ,got the TRX4 Bronco . But this is something more for building anything. Learn a lot watching your vid.
I really like how you have your wraith set up. I've done tons of crazy upgrades on my wraith also. It's almost bomb proof now. lol.. Great video bro. Thanks for sharing this. Thumbs up!
You forgot to mention the wheels? I found that getting away from the stock wraith offset really helped the stability! Good looking truck you have! worthy mods! The wraith chassis also works great with sand paws and cranked up!
***** sand paws actually work on a lot of surfaces, I run wheel wideners and open diffs on my firebird, it works pretty good, but you have to keep the speed up!
Nice upgrades. I have upgraded my wraith to just got and built my axles found on line extra speed metal axels for 20 bucks even put beef tubes in them basically is a all metal wraith now it's a awsome rock crawler now. all that's left to upgrade is the stock motor and the esc think castle is the way to go
I actually wasn't using any foams in these. Loads of weight taped to the rim and the beadlocks make a seal, so they are nice and soft (without being flat) and just climb over obstacles like squishy tank treads!
I used standard body clips, and the hood mod kit I bought came with screws with holes in them designed to be used for that purpose, but you could make some out of plastic and I have even seen people rig up a system with magnets that looks pretty cool...
Thanks a lot for watching! To be honest, I don't have a Bomber but from what I've read that platform is very similar, but with a little more suspension travel. You can't go wrong with either one as a platform for future upgrades/builds!
Awesome vid my friend, that's one cool Wraith.. Looks great.. 👍👍 & it looks like me & you are having a beard off!! LoL😂 I'm about 4 weeks in, looks like your just in front 😂👍👍✌
***** ha ha, you bewty!! 😂👍 trimming the mustache is a must, every second or third day now.. LoL Well tell the boss your having a 'beard off' with a chap from Australia & it might buy you a week or two.. LoL 😂👍 cheers my friend P.s I'll send a pic tmrw of my growth, just so you can see how much your in front by 😂👍✌
Do you mean those self locking nuts holding the wheels on? If so maybe pick up a new set, they are super cheap and I suppose the plastic/nylon inside that keeps them tight has worn out. Or you could try another set of wheels. All of the stock axial stuff falls apart eventually, that's why upgrades are such a racket 😁
@@colibrifpv hi thank u..i have the aluminum rims that have built in counter weights. With long screws to hold on rims. Is it better to go with regular rim and use nylon nuts?
I just traded for a Wraith with a Hobbywing 13.5t sensored brushless system. He had upgraded the spur and gears to 32p, which I've read is a good idea. But he said that he had to reverse the axles and tranny because it was snapping driveshafts. So it's not fast at all in reverse with some speed in forward. If you reverse the throttle channel on th TX, of course it's backwards, but it will flip over it takes off so fast in reverse, and slow in forward. Does any of this make any sense to you and what can I do to remedy it? Surely the power can be turned down in the ESC or some stronger driveshafts be used, right?? I know with a sensored system I can't just reverse two motor wires and be done. I want it back like it should be. I'm not a newb, but fairly new to brushless systems.
That's awesome to hear, thanks a lot for commenting! Honestly you can't go wrong with a Wraith, it's a great platform to upgrade, when I first got mine I had the itch for speed, but I eventually realized it was most happy as a crawler with a brushed motor. Glad to have you here, hope you subscribe and stick around! (haven't uploaded in a while but I'm about to change that 🤘)
No problem, they came with the hinge kit I bought, but I think you should be abe to use standard ones. I also like the sets that come attached to a rubber retainer so they don't get lost (I always lose mine). They cost about $5 a set on Tower, check them out!

Looks sick!!! Im getting a shut load of torque twist. Im wondering if you can flip the rear axle so the shaft is opposite from the front.

Thanks a lot my friend, really appreciate your feedback! For an all-around basher, the Axial Wraith is still one of the best options you can get..
That's a bad ass wraith. The wraith spawn was my first crawler. I love it.
Same
Just starting in the hobby and I got a wraith and definitely I'm following your guide, there's so much I don't know about it.
cheers.
Great rig. I just got a spawn last month. Your machine is a inspiration.
nice rig my friend some cool mods have fun RCing
Hats off to you , one of the best & real review on RUclips for this rig !
Enjoyed it a lot....
Well got a wraith spawn kit on its way !

That’s one badass wraith. New subscriber here
Thanks bud, I really appreciate it! I'll try to be more active on this channel in the future as far as work and family life allows.
nice rig, im a trx4 guy but someone had a barely used wraith i got for a song, I just might become a wraith guy too.
The Wraith is a great platform, you'll have a blast with it!
Really cool Wraith Man! Can't wait to see what you do with it next...

awesome crawling machine !! your Wraith is realy realy cool , I love the look and the perf ' great work Jason !! cheers :-)
Very good mods - super like your Wraith - I'm biased - I'd even like it if you spent 10 minutes yawning with a picture of the Wraith on its roof lolol

Sick wraith 👍🏻
were do you get your parts from ?
Great video and info. I'm looking at Axial for my first crawler. Which model would you recommend? SCX10-2, Wraith or Bomber?
One well modified wraith.
What size clips did you use for your front hood mods.??? What did you use for the clip mounts in front??? THX!
I used standard body clips, and the hood mod kit I bought came with screws with holes in them designed to be used for that purpose, but you could make some out of plastic and I have even seen people rig up a system with magnets that looks pretty cool...
thumbs up for sure !! realy nice wraith and review !!
Hey, awesome Wraith you have. I noticed you have a low ground clearance. In your current hardware, could you raise the ground clearance?
Has shorter then stock shocks that's why it's so low,you could by shock extenders to gain ground clearance
how would you compare it to the bomber...? nice vid thanks

I'm 3 seconds in - Its a Wraith so you automatically get a thumbs up :)
What esc do u recommend now. Is there a newer model esc? Seems cant find a mamba max pro.
which rover tires are those? hot bodies has rover blue and rover-ex pink tire versions

I have the same wraith but no light ! How do you hook up your light ??
That is a great looking Wraith Jason! You did an awesome job on that. Was it a kit or RTR?
***** Lol! I understand. Been wanting a Dingo kit, looks like I missed out on that one.
***** Hmmmm, you may be on to something. We'll just have to see what Axial has in store for us!
awesome Video and thank you for sharing👍👍
Very nice wraith. I have an issue. My wheel screws keep backing out. Wheel dalls off . I tried locktite. Any ideas. Its frustrating.

Merci mon ami! Je suis heureux de vous avoir ici. J'espère mettre bientôt en ligne d'autres vidéos de voitures Rc et de drones FPV 🤘
Cool stuff man! Nice rig
what are the clips called that you used to make the hood? I can't find them at all, where you mounted the hood to the frame
Thank you great info....
Thanks a lot for watching, I'm really glad you liked it!
What kind of shock oil weight are you running?
I have the stock 30 weight in there and it works great with loose spring tension.
Nice wraith 👌🏻

Will these upgrades work with the Axial Wraith Spawn?
For real I wanna know to I jus got a wraith spawn like a week ago haha

Absolutely, the Spawn is just a different flavor of the same platform, so they should work fine.

Cool video
what rims/wheels are you using i didn't hear it in the video
What kind of interior setup is that? I'd like to put action figures in mine
It's the interior that comes with the Wraith. If you take your time with the finishing, it's pretty realistic!
what foams do you use (if any)
Thank you for responding, it helped a lot
Hi, is it orginally the rock racer or poison spyder ?
This is very cool. can't wait for the next video upgrades :-)

Hood has been hinged but is stock and interior is stock...the spawn version spawn wraith has a different interior
@@chriskirby9745 RIght on Chris, thanks for your comment.
As Chris already said, they're stock, I just did the hood hinge mod. Totally worthwhile in my opinion, I live having my battery up front!
