Hey all- remember that Sherry gets a little more revenue if we watch the ads. We can help her income at no cost - so she can get more money from RUclips - just by watching the ads to completion.
Thank you for teaching the finger gathering! In my many years of sewing I never knew about that and I am now going to try it! I like this duster a lot - great work!
It turned out very pretty. The patch work adds a lot of interest to it. I would want 3/4 length sleeves. It would make a great dress. Thank you for that tip about using a broken clothespin. Great idea. I have some cotton flannel shirts that I could make over into a nice patchwork flannel dress. It would be great worn over leggings, or tights, in the winter.
Thanks you so much for showing this process…..absolutely fascinating to see how you joined the patchwork piece to the beginning shirt piece and gather with your fingers as you sewed 👍🏼Wondering if you have a tutorial showing how you joined the fabric pieces to create the patchwork pieces ❤
Hey, Sherry. I just love this cute duster. My best friend gave me a peasant style dress that she would NEVER wear. I have been trying to make a skirt from it. IF I EVER get that finished, I think it will be cute. 🤔 Yet to be determined 😅 You make recycling look so easy. ❤
Hi Donna, Thank you so much. Your project sounds fascinating. I'm sure it will turn out lovely. Editing helps make things look smoother than they are but I have sewn quite a lot and that helps as well.
I appreciate how you show the careful inspection of the used clothing. For me, I can't have any kind of LED lights in my apartment. I figured out that they make me not able to think straight
Sit in front of a window with natural light coming in and see if that helps. Sorry you have to go through something like that. I never heard of that so I’ve learned something new here. Take care. 😊
Love this fall project. It seems like summer will never end here in Arizona. Very busy here today too, much traffic from a facility that was decommissioned 15 years ago 👀 ✝
I wonder if people realize how much work goes into the patchwork. I worked for a week on something similar and it was exhausting!! You have to think things through, then manipulate the fabric (fight with the needles and bobbin thread) and hope you don't catch something you don't mean to (requiring the seam ripper) and again hope your idea and your finished project are at least similar lol Nice job and thanks for your time.
Patchwork is time consuming but goes faster the more one does it plus I prep a lot of my scraps beforehand by cutting them into squares or rectangles and storing them neatly on top of each other so they aren't wrinkled which allows me to grab and sew more quickly.
I've have seen other people do that but most of my issues is the motor on my Bernina isn't as strong as newer ones. My Singer Heavy Duty would have walked right through it. I would have still had to use something to level it though like the clothes pin thingy.
If a machine is meant to use metal bobbins, you can't use plastic ones in them. The machine's tension settings are designed/preset for the heavier metal bobbins. The plastic ones are too light and will give problems.
Well the bobbin holder has a tension setting on the tread that is adjustable. I think what is messing with my machine is that the bobbins aren't the right thickness in depth and allows it to move forward and backward and pulls the thread out of the tensioner. I even found one plastic bobbin that was too thick for the bobbin holder and won't go all the way in to sit flush with the bobbin holder. So the metal ones are likely machines more exacting and precise. That is my theory anyway.
Sherry, I saw someone do a trick to sew over heavy denims. She put something flat under the back of the presser foot to bring it up level, and then it was easier to sew through all layers. I've not tried it though. Your duster is adorable.🥰
They sell a couple of accessories to do that, one is called something like hump jumper, but I have always just used some cardstock. Also the little knob on the side of some sewing feet is for that. Your manual will explain or you can look for a video. I love dusters, they are super versatile. Sherry's is very cute.
Yes, you wear it open like a long cardigan. You can go to Etsy or Pintrest and type in 'duster' and see all the different versions. There are many different lengths of the them and styles.
I don't know if it would work because my machine motor is just not able to sew through that much fabric and also is a Bernina which uses different feet. I do have a converter but the space is limited. I have a Singer Heavy duty sewing machine I can use if I can't get it through the Bernina
Its cute. I like that bit of extra denim at the hemline.
Thank you. I'm so glad you liked it.
I do too! I like the weight and shape it adds :)))

Thank you so much! I don't ask people to do it because I'm guilty of ad skipping myself but it would help me a lot. Thank you!
Yea! RUclips keeps 30 percent

Thank you. I learned it from my mother. I'm glad you are also going to use it.
I love how you keep your sewing so real. I learn so much watching you sew. And your ideas are so inspiring. Thanks Sherry 🥰🥰
You are so welcome! I'm glad I can bless you.
Tak přesně na tohle se právě teď chystám a objevilo se mi vaše video! Děkuji za inspiraci i když nemám tak velké zásoby materiálu. 🏵🌺🌼🌟
I'm so glad you are going to try it! I hope it turns out awesome and you have a lot of fun doing it.

Thank you and I think your ideas are really good. For myself, if I were keeping it, I'd shorten it cause I'm short...ha ha
Really cute! Thanks for all the tips.

What a great job little Lady,!! So cute, I'll have to find similar to make! 🎉 ❤

That is fabulous! Thank you for the inspiration. I will be making one and using the heart idea for the back! Have a blessed day! Nadine from Cali😍
That is awesome!
Great class as usual. Thanks.

Oh my, that isn't good at all. I have a sister in law that can't have fluorescent lighting as it gives her seizures. Interesting how light affects us.

@@suepeterson5675 It does help some 🥰
Lovely, I want to try to make one too!

You'll have to make an nice light airy one....lol....
In Az it is hot ! Very nice upcycle with many ideas .
Opps I forgot to say in Az as well .
I'm in Mesa, upcycling winter season clothes, and it's 108 degrees. I miss fall every year.

oh my golly geemers that is adorable !!!!!!!!!!
Your duster is very cute. I would want sleeves if it was mine. Thank you for sharing. God bless.
It would be lovely with sleeves. There are a lot of inspirational ideas on Etsy or Pintrest for different styles and lengths as well.
That turned out so cute!
Thank you!
Sheri, it looks greats! I’m sure it’s already sold.
I will be listing it tomorrow but I hope it sells.
love it! I would use it as a dress not a jacket well done
Beautiful
Love it Sherry ❤
Love it ❤❤❤
Love this project. Definitely want to try this.
Very cute and sweet! Thx so much!❤
So talented. Love it!
I love it!
Before you sew the thick edges pound the he'll out of it with a hammer, works great!

It was probably my video on tips where I demonstrated how to go over heavy denim....lol
@@SherryJonesDesigns Whoops, sorry. I knew I saw it somewhere. 😀ha....
She uses a clothes pin. Her version of a hump jumper. Ingenious!
❤❤
👍👍👏👏👏👏
Keep in mind the button sides of fabric.
Whether it's from male or female shirt.
Also, the cuffs of both male and female clothing are always opposing.
Very cute, did you say to wear that open? what would you wear under it?
Yes, you wear it open like a long cardigan. You can go to Etsy or Pintrest and type in 'duster' and see all the different versions. There are many different lengths of the them and styles.
A singer heavy duty crafting foot would probably sew that thick section.
I don't know if it would work because my machine motor is just not able to sew through that much fabric and also is a Bernina which uses different feet. I do have a converter but the space is limited. I have a Singer Heavy duty sewing machine I can use if I can't get it through the Bernina
What defines a “duster”?
Well, according to Etsy and Pintrest any open front long tunic with buttons.
