Be Here Now: Remembering Ram Dass with Shunyamurti

- In honor of one of the great spiritual influencers of our times, Shunyamurti shares a heart-opening tribute to Ram Dass.

Shunyamurti’s life-long quest for truth and the power of healing our souls and our world has brought about a deep understanding of the dynamics of the traumatized ego, the karmic trajectory and wounds of the soul, and the radiant healing power of the Supreme Real that is the One Self. He has learned how to work on all levels simultaneously to help sustain the ecstasy of Self-realization. Many years of meditation practice and training in numerous forms of yoga, including apprenticeship with Baba Hari Dass, ten years of vowed association with a Brahmachari ashram in India, a special resonance with Sri Ramana Maharshi and a deep study of Advaita and esoteric Shaivism and Buddhism, have been supplemented by the intensive study of western metaphysics, modern sciences, profound exploration of the dimensions opened by entheogens, trans-personal psychology, various forms of psychoanalysis and Jungian dreamwork, and the entire development of the perennial philosophy, including Taoism, Kabbalah, and mystical Christianity. Shunyamurti now functions as spiritual guide, retreat leader, and teacher of the Sat Yoga Ashram and Community, in addition to his ongoing advanced research in the Yogic sciences.

Ram Dass you’ve enlightened us all. RIP
While traveling to the most remote town in the continental US this past summer, Stehekin, WA, I stayed in a campsite for five nights and read the book autobiography of a Yogi. It changed my life and I started opening myself further to the spiritual path. During that time I met some random hikers and after sharing dinner, great conversation, and joints with them they gifted me this book, Be here now, to me. I had never heard of it. Ram Dass found me and that in itself was confirmation of something beyond me guiding my life towards something more just as you do as well. This is further confirmation of this path.

Namaste Alyssa, also check out the book "The Only Dance There Is" and in another book he wrote "Polishing The Mirror" there is a really beautiful guided meditation-the best one I've ever heard in fact. Ram Dass's stories about Maharaji-our guru-are my favorite. Through Ram Dass Maharaji and the Bhakti Yoga lineage speaks to our hearts and souls. Your story is beautiful thanks for sharing. Ram! To make the bridge is always challenging and most value added effort of mankind ..indian spirtual master make the bridge between known to unknown ..so many has used this bridge ..to find the fullfillment ..but ram das made a special bridge ..from western mind to eastern mind ..and many will use this bridge in time to come ..my humble rememberence to shree ram das ..
There are those who carry on the "work" of opening without the use of chemical; the work of Dr Joe Dispenza teaches folks how...science is behind it and it all makes so much sense to those who couldt get it before. So incredible is this work of Be Here Now I sit in gratitude of the doors opened by Ram Dass and all others who gave us a glimpse of the bigger world most have no clue exists. Om Shanti

I first came across Ram Dass through a video series in the early 90's which had been ten years after I was part of a new religious movement that stemmed from the sub continent as a reformist Hindu philosophy. Ram Dass through syncretic interpretations illuminated classic Indian metaphysics and mystic traditions for popular culture, and gave a healthy critique on forms of new religious dogma.

Be here now has been my mantra since I read his book.
Be Here Now in conjunction with Our Lady Lucy has provided the most paradigm-shifting teachings of my life - The text would hover three-dimensionally over itself, lowering into place as it was read and converted directly into timeless understanding. I could spend many minutes on a single page until its meaning became visceral.
From my own vantage point, it seems to have had a resurgence in popularity at least over the past decade or so - it continues to find its way to people by word of mouth, a rite of passage for those with psychedelic and spiritual proclivities early on in their journeys. My friends and I were 18 or so when it came into our possession 6 years ago and I have heard many anecdotes of its potency in others my age.
There are many excellent recordings of Satsang with Ram Dass on RUclips - as invaluable to me as these of Shunyamurti's.

There is no 'other'.
i wonder if all i see around me is a reflection of what i feel and was filling before and also what i belive or thinking from my ego thoughts ... the question of who am i is ...i am a spearit of 7 billion people and billions of creatures and everything around me as one spearit plasma ...the instinct i have to feel something to be hapend and then is jast hapend then this instinct is something behind all this i see around me wich one can say consciousness and this consciousness creates the space around me but all this space shift billions of times every second multipule times as more copies of the same space as every posibule quatom posibility of any event around me ... time is a moment and the moment incudes all future and past and the same is every spot of the space .... all i see around me is an illusion of the dream world i imagine as an consciousness behind this dream hologram of 3dimension space ... every thing i know is only that i dont know ... love you all and everything...

LSD is a chemical that catalyzes expanded consciousness. Trajectory is like a flight path one direction.

Ram Dass guru Neem Karoli Baba took the “medicine” Ram Dass offered him. He said this “medicine” or LSD has the power to take you into the room with Christ but not to stay there. Ram Dass legacy is much greater than psychedelics. Love everyone. 🙏🏼 Ram Ram ❤️
His comment that awakening is pre-determined seems to directly contradict Ramana Maharshi, who I believe said that it is in fact the only thing which is not pre-determined, the only real choice one can make. Can both be true? I don't doubt his sincerity as it is obvious from his talks. Namaste

Im so confused. Every now and then i will take some acid and it has provided profound experiences. Is this hindering my spiritual development because the moderated use of this substance has helped to open my heart and make day to day life so much more enjoyable.
