    Heavy rail can carry twice the amount of people and is faster. A station right at UCLA as proposed by the heavy rail alternative is also crucial while the proposed APM and bus shuttle by the monorail alternative in comparison is such a joke

      Your hypothesis of heavyrail carrying more passengers is not based on facts. If those were the estimates. We wouldn't have ridership declines across the whole heavyrail network now. Empty heavyrail carriages is not good for the cost. Just because it's matchy-matchy to what's been already built. Build something more affordable, in half the time that it would take heavyrail to be built.

      @@rockyroad-hq7hz This is nonsense. The designs of the monorail and heavy rail have a capacity. The monorail plan has under half the capacity of the heavy rail option. It's slower, and it won't connect to any of the other existing lines.
      Stop lying. There are literal public planning documents that both teams presented. We know exactly what is supposed to be built and what the specs are.

      @@rockyroad-hq7hzIt's a fact that heavy rail has more capacity and it would use the same trains as the B and D lines which will reduce on-going maintenance and acquisition costs. The line would also directly connect with the D Line at the VA station currently under construction, and you'll be able to have a station underneath UCLA in the center of campus. The monorail is a joke for the Sepulveda Pass line. Monorails work best in closed loop designs like at airports, amusement parks, or even large destination complexes.

    Heavy rail makes sense. The monorail seems more like a gimmick than good service. Busses probably won’t have enough capacity going through the pass. A few bus lines do run through the pass so I’m assuming that is why metro has not considered it.

      @@Innawor1d What are you talking about? The monorail will take exactly the same amount of time to build for the same length. It's literally in the documents that they presented. Where did you get this nonsense about the monorail taking less than regular rail?

    • @Starflare5
      @Starflare5 4 месяца назад

      @TohaBgood2 have you seen how long the HSR is taking. All that has to be done to build heavy rail or a two rail system. All that's needed to be done with the monorail is pretty much dig a hole in the ground in one line, plant bases, bolt columns to bases, bolt rail to columns. What's heavy metal you have to build the columns, then the road bed, then put the rails on top of the roadbed, and verify that it won't damage the columns by the weight alone and other direction. The Disney World Monorail system has already proven that can handle a high capacity by transporting 120 million guests every day throughout the resort.

    • @TohaBgood2
      @TohaBgood2 4 месяца назад +1

      @@Starflare5 You can have either monorail or heavy rail on a viaduct. There is no difference in cost. But monorail is 2x more expensive if it needs to go underground. And this monorail will have to go underground to serve UCLA.
      This is a pointless argument. The monorail people quoting the price from one system while proposing a completely different one that is 2x more expensive. This doesn't make any sense.

    You can't widen the 405 any more than it already is, that is why monorail makes sense. It will connect to the bus routes and other Transit routes simply by walking a station and maybe taking a stair or escalator like you all already do for light rail.

    What percentage of Angelenos actually use the rail services here? I rode the E Line the other day from downtown Santa Monica to downtown L.A. and the cars were virtually empty.
    Compare that to the bus lines which service a much wider array of locations. The popular bus lines are packed. L.A. needs to focus on ways to make driving cars and busses more efficient and enjoyable.
    Another consideration is safety. Simply put, most people do not feel safe on L.A.'s train system. Any consideration of future rail services is meaningless unless L.A. gets serious about homelessness and violent crime.
    As for the Sepulveda Pass, dedicated bus-only lanes on the 405 make much more sense than spending billions on a system very few people will utilize.

      Although Metro has been experiencing problems, ridership on all Metro Rail lines is still increasing, especially after the opening of the Regional Connector last year. This shows that there is a need to expand the rail system, like the Sepulveda Pass corridor, which is expected to serve over 120,000 people if a new heavy rail line is built. But you are right!! Buses are a wonderful asset to every city regardless if it has rail or not. Before the new line's opening and the upcoming Olympics, Metro should start a high frequent, fast rapid bus line (better than the current line 761) to operate through the pass (and maybe keep it as a supplemental service to the Sepulveda Pass rail line when it opens). We cannot wait any longer for a viable alternative to the 405!!!!!

      Also, transit stations only become unsafe when they're severely understaffed, and sadly the US has the tendency to do just that to "save money" lol

      I rode the same train from East LA to Santa Monica and back and the trains constantly had people in all the cars. They weren't packed, but they were far from empty.
      LA Metro is still recovering from Covid, but LA Metro has had increased ridership every month in 2023. I've taken the train around 5pm during the week and around 11am on weekends.
