  • DO OR DO NOT. THERE IS NO "TRY"
How to make an origami Yoda from Star Wars
    Designed by Fumiaki Kawahata
    Difficulty level: high intermediate
    3 FINGERS:
Actually, Yoda has 3 fingers (not 4 as shown in this video!). To make 3 instead of 4 fingers, pause at 18:05 and follow this video:
    • How to make 3 fingers
    My paper:
    20cm x 20cm
Green tissue foil + Camel Natural Tissue Paper (glued to make a single sheet green+brown)
The first Yoda shown is green tissue foil + copper tissue foil
    Buy from origami-shop:
    Copper Tissue Foil: www.origami-shop.com/fiche_ar...
    Green Tissue-foil: www.origami-shop.com/fiche_ar...
    Lokta paper: www.origami-shop.com/fiche_ar...
    Korean Hanji: www.origami-shop.com/fiche_ar...
this model doesn't require special paper. 15cm x 15cm origami paper works well
    Diagrams: www.pedagonet.com/brain/yodaga...
See also video by Marigami (her sequence of steps is different )
    • Jedi Master Yoda Origa...
(also, Marigami's Yoda has 3 fingers, which is the correct)

I had a whole phase in middle school where I was obsessed with the Origami Yoda book series, and I couldn't stop making these. I can't believe this now, but at some point I even memorized the steps for this model. I made dozens of these, but over half a decade later, only three of my originals from middle school remain. Time didn't treat two of them well at all, but I managed to keep one of them in a frame on my desk, and he's still completely new under the glass.
This is such an awesome thing to rediscover all these years later.

My son is reading the Origami Yoda book, so this is a really fun and entertaining way to connect with him and to both share our love of Star Wars! It's awesome to have people out there like you who knows how to do these creative works of art! Thank you for sharing and keep it up! I plan to see more!

    1) Copy paper and origami paper works very well. I only used this paper on the video because of the colors, but it was actually harder to fold than using standard origami paper.
    2) instead of pause/rewind you can use the transcript (there's a button below the like bar) and just click on the instruction you wanna repeat.

  • @jonakashima
    @jonakashima  12 лет назад +9

    1) it depends on the papers used. The Green tissue foil + Camel Natural Tissue Paper was good to fold, but Green tissue foil + Copper tissue foil (first Yoda shown) was pretty hard because of the thickness
    2) it's glued... O.o

This is a great tutorial. The pictures in the corner, the instructions on subtitle, and the clear video made it much easier to follow than other origami tutorials I've watched. Now I have a cute little Yoda!

1 & 2) I would choose Origami Essence, but if you prefer LaFosse's you should pick it
    3) License to fold, Origami Sequence, VOG 50 hours of Origami

Great origami and amazing tutorial!! I could never figure out how to do the crimp-fold and had a mental breakdown before crumpling it into a ball and throwing it away but seeing you do it so effortlessly is so awesome when you get over the initial sobbing 😲 Love this and thank you for making it!!! 🥰

Just finished my second one, Jo. Came out nice enough (fingers still need work though... I went with the threefingered model this time) but I'm having trouble with the paper: I finally bought some origami paper - the only batch the local art store had and the only kind they'll order - and it's rubbish! It frays and tears even worse than the printer paper I made my first Yoda out of. Any advice on what paper is best for intermediate - to - difficult folds like this? I botched Scrat the squirrel because of the paper quality, too (but then that was in fact printer paper, so it's unsurprising). Time for better material, methinks :-)

Now... time to see how well I can do this fold all this time later. I remember it being a rather intricate and lengthy fold with some difficult steps. At one point I could actually do it from memory :o surely it can't be that hard for me to recreate as an adult, right? .... Right?

I love this! Will there be a Baby Yoda tutorial in the future? :)

I got a really nice result with foil sandwiched between brown and green tissue paper around 20 inches big. You can really give life to Yoda by curving his cloak and face. Also, if you reverse the paper right on his cane you can make it brown. Gave it to a star-wars fan for his birthday.
