Boy do I wish I had seen this sooner. I had my concentrator replaced 4 times in 6 months because of the noise. Then I bought my own. It was fairly quiet for the first month but has gotten progressively louder over time. Now, if I can just manage to do all of this myself!! Thank you for this very informative video!!

I have one and have used it for about 5 years now and its not really an issue. Its in the corner of the den when we're in the living room. I'll put it in a bedroom with the door closed sometimes and just get a longer hose. For that matter, I could probably put it in the garage under a cardboard box and get a 75' hose.

It sounds like you have a nice solution. Distance makes a huge difference. Just a suggestion though if you put it in the garage - since you won't hear it, make sure to remember to turn it off in the morning 😁

These are great tips. Is there any secret alarm volume im not aware of? The alarm is scary and wakes up my baby, and all my other kids, when I'm the only one it needs to alert. I'm a light sleeper. My kids keep thinking the fire alarm is going off.

Unfortunately, those alarms don't seem to be adjustable. I'm guessing it's a legal liability issue, but it's incredibly obnoxious, wake the dead-level! The blanket helps slightly.

How can I get some help,,,?i don't think I can do all that???

I'd start with the simple stuff like putting it on the fuzzy rug. That made a big difference.

Can i put a rug over it,?

You can try that, but make sure the vents aren't blocked, and that the hose is not being kinked by the weight of the rug.

Actuly, if you are on one, you're getting Medicare, which requires buy law they maintain it to not be no loud

You are correct, Keto. They are supposed to maintain the concentrator, but getting them to do so after the first 3 years is a battle with the company I'm familiar with. If you ask for a replacement, they will give you another machine, but it may as bad or worse than the one you have. If it actually provides oxygen, they consider their part of the contract fulfilled regardless of the noise level. On top of that, the Invacare Platinum was never a quiet machine even when new.

I would rather just pay you to make one for me since I do not have the means To Do all that.

I am not really set up for that, but if you have a handy friend or family member, you could turn these ideas into a fun project to do together 🙂

How about we just go after the manufacturers, they are the ones making these crap machines, I never believed in suing people, because I understand shit happens, but these are life-saving machines, and they should be held to higher standards, i’m sure eventually a lawyer will pick this up, and they will take most of the money for almost saving someone’s life, I guess it just takes enough people to complain, we need to make a loud noise in their living room

I like the idea of making noise in their living rooms! I totally agree it begins with the companies. If you've ever seen inside an Invacare concentrator, you'd be amazed that there is zero effort made toward noise reduction.

Unfortunately, Medicare and insurances that pay for these units have forced most manufacturers to leave the market. There are only a handful of manufacturers that are left. Most are coming from China now. There have been many attempts to reduce sound output over the last couple decades, but this increases cost and reduces reliability. Sound dampening typically increases heat and restricts air flow which causes premature failure of compressors and other components sensitive to high heat environments. Currently, OxyHome makes the quietest unit on the market. Probably the only unit you can sleep next to, but it does make a low humming noise.

Just got a new concentrator after the old one failed. The old one was loud, and the new one is louder :( I wonder if some of these tips might work.
