Was thinking about you just the other day, it’s been a while since your hostage looking video. Glad to see you’re doing well it looks like you’re getting settled in just fine. Looking forward to more Pippiisms in the future. Love that you’re showing us how your thought process works, always trying to anticipate what’s going to go wrong in the future and fix it first. I’ve never seen raised beds done like that but why not? (I’m something of a gardener). The cardboard bottom will deter ground contamination but isn’t ideal. They are pretty deep. As you said, it’s a lot of soil to fill them.
Last time I saw you it was in Texas but I can’t identify the property.
That much soil you might buy a half a dump truck of it then top off with better topsoil.
Get the hard work out of the way in the cool weather.
    Good growing Pippi. 🐸

Fruit trees can be kept in check with pruning. You don't have to let the canopy achieve maximum spread. Pruning leads to better harvests. Besides, you'll have years before they mature, you can (and probably will) move the beds.
Northernmost corner of the yard has the most sunlight potential depending on the surroundings.
You can probably skip the cardboard as it would be very difficult for anything to grow up through 12"+ of soil.

To solve the heat problem from the sun you could spray paint the outside white with waterproof paint . You could also spray paint the toxic wood with safe paint they use on farms, I really don’t know what paint to use for that. Nice to see you doing something fun, it’s going to wind up giving you delicious healthy food.

For raised beds. Find a big new foundation that somebody is putting in. There will be 2x10s and 2x12s they are stripping after they pour the concrete. You live in Texas so watch out for diesel sprayed boards. Cut the boards whatever size you want, but to fit with your hardware cloth. Get 1/2 hardware cloth and staple it to the bottom to keep critters out. Hardware cloth is like mesh.
You can make the ones you got work by just framing it in some. It's nice to make them out of old wood that is not treated and just let it rot it will last for years. It's technically ok to use groundtreated but not a good esthetic. Regular wood will last for years and it's not your house so who cares?
I was watching this video and thinking," Pippi needs me", so thanks for that.

Instead of treated lumber which might be poisonous, you might try concrete blocks. My father had a green house which had trouble with bug infestation in the wooden beds. He replaced them with concrete blocks and never had trouble with bugs again. The concrete could be drilled and long bolts might be used to provide reusable connection points to the metal sheeting. I don't know if it is not allowed in your neighborhood, but you might dig a hole for a small pond and use the removed dirt if suitable for your raised garden bed. It would be less expense than bringing in soil for the garden. Good to hear from you again.

    • @PippiPeterson

I like the idea of a small pond. I’m sure the birds would love that. Unfortunately so would snakes and rats.

    • @ralphkuerbis
      @ralphkuerbis 3 года назад

@@PippiPeterson I forgot to say if you live in an area with septic tanks, its probably not a good idea to dig holes, or to use the dirt, as it may have septic residue in it. If you are on city sewer line, the soil is probably ok.

It's nice to hear from you again. Be careful about using treated wood for your raised beds. Treated wood is known to poison the soils. ;) Update . . . You could use 16"x8"x8" Concrete Blocks from Home Depot. With 24 blocks at $1.45 each and you can build a 8'x4'x8" raised bed and have less than $30.00 invested. No poison chemicals used.I love you Pippi.

Pippi! It's so nice to see your face again. Pearl and Chase's too. Ya know when you showed us the beds, I thought with that Texas heat in the summer, those beds will cook. Have you thought of putting white sheets of plastic board of some sort on the outside of them to keep the heat down? I just think you won't have success when summer hits. It's funny how all the RV'ers I have been watching for years are all selling their RV's and getting homes. It can be fun for a while but when life is shaken, there are limits as to what an RV'er can do. Glad to see you getting settled into your new home. Love seeing the puppers out rolling in the yard. Because this video was in my FB feed today, but not the one from a month ago. Because if you see this one first after not seeing you for six months it doesn’t make a lot of Sense. Luckily I decided to look and of course found the earlier one. Once you watch that one, this one makes sense. I know from FB and some of the comments here, some didn’t see the previous video. Quick comment on the previous Video, it seemed at times it was difficult to do and say, even though you are Happy now. I am curious to what happened to the House you were flipping? I had a guy at work get impaled on a piece of rebar when he slipped on mud climbing stairs they used it to keep temporary stairs from moving around, so i'm hyper focused on rebar now.

It's good to see you adjusting to your new phase. I love how that music tears into me. I'm a gut-wrenching blues lover. BTW if you're going to leave grass between them make sure you can fit a lawnmower in there. Did you buy the house you and Todd flipped?

I think the soil is going to make the metal bow out unless it's supported/braced with wood...no?

So happy to see you back delivering wisdom to us all. Consider Pecan tree($). Are you an owner or renter?

Owner. With Pecan trees I’d have to deal with the pecans on the ground. It’s an idea to consider though!
