This reminds me of the time about a year ago when suddenly I saw a ton of pop science articles about how "Scientists have discovered an alternate universe where time flows backwards" but tracing the source back to the original paper, an instrument on a weather balloon flying above Antarctica found some weird neutrino readings, moving in a direction they shouldn't've been.

Ultimately, articles like this lead to misinformation and distrust of the scientific community, who aren't at all to blame for bogus articles, purposefully misinterpreting their papers for clickbait

Time to spread it before DIO bullshits about gravity and journalists release a pop science journal about how king crimson works. xd

Thank you for covering this important topic. A lot of science communicators are writing lazy, exaggerated, and propaganda-ridden pieces that make people lose faith in the scientific community.

Oh god, thank you! I'm so often so damn annoyed by inaccurately or misleading pop-science! I so often have to deal with friends and family who talk about something they've read in a pop-sci article. Many times it is completely obvious to me (with a fair amount of scientific background) that what they're saying is either completely bogus or severely misleading, but, y'know, they read a "scientific article" about it...
On another note, this video is pretty damn good, and I'm surprised it hasn't got a lot more views. I always enjoy listening to people who are good at talking science in a non-pop-sci way. The world is so fascinating, so I don't get the need for sensationalization (other than getting clicks and what not). Anyway, I like a lot of your other content too, so keep it up!

Great Video, but I think you shout cut over to theas short Reaktion clips (from Movies and Cartoons) less often. It is nice to have some of them in there so it seems less like just a monolog, but rithe now I think there are so many of them that they start to distracted from the video, and slows down the flow of the video. And again great video, it's always cool to see well researched videos about interesting subjects. Just trying to give some produktiv feedback.

It's a balance. Too many are distracting. And not enough and I fear that it can get boring. But thank you for the input. I'll keep it in mind in the future.

We should teach scientific communication in schools. I followed Jordan Peterson for a while, and one of the best lessons I learned, that I noticed little people practice, is the very specific use of words for their very specific meaning. Sometimes I feel like I'm lying when I'm not focusing as hard to pick the exact right words to express myself when I trust the person will still understand what I mean.
p.s. Probably more personal, but I think many words we use have a negative meaning assinged to them and they actualy cause negative emotional sensation to pop up. Sometimes the word is even a flat out inaccurate descriptor of something. Ok, I'm rambling now, it's 2am, but hey, free video engagement go!

To be fair, most of these articles sounds like CLICKBAIT, just made for more clicks because clicks = money, and all copied from each other probably... Clickbait is one of the main issues with today's journalism, we should just have something like netflix for articles and we need to restore their credibility too.
However the science illiteracy among journalists are indeed a problem, but hell even the common folk science illiteracy is a problem, that's the reason why people would try to find quick and easy solutions for the pandemic for example...

Sensationalism and bad journalism made reading articles impossible.

I'm not sure the price of access to scientific studies is as much of a barrier (since you could e.g. try to get the paper directly from the authors) as their sheer number compared to the common person's apathy or priorities in spending their free time. Other than that, I definitely agree with your points in this video

Great connections to logical shortcomings in media! This premise could be used to highlight a lot of complex themes in movies and tv shows - Bojack Horseman (as well as many modern comedies) highlights and makes fun of such faults in logic.

There’s a similar issue with Pop History. As a historian, it is nigh unbearably annoying tracing how many misconceptions about history and how history is understood to popular entertainment and pop history that lacks nuance.

Media tends to make science out to be a bit of a be-all-end-all kinda thing, and while it's very true that science is amazing for everything we know today, it's also nonetheless based on theory.

Your awesome.. You managed to say more than the entire pop zeitgeist, In your own subtle way, than any other channel so far... Respect from Far North Queensland, Australia.. This content may go over many heads... But I get it.. You managed to articulate an issue, I am personally most often concerned with, than most others.. With humor and intelligence, you have nailed the issue with style.. Thankyou.
