- I walk through NYC in the Bronx on Fordham Road from Jerome Avenue to Pelham Parkway.
From Wikipedia:
"Fordham Road is a major thoroughfare in the Bronx, New York City, that runs west-east from the Harlem River to Bronx Park. Fordham Road houses the borough's largest and most diverse shopping district. It geographically separates the North Bronx from the South Bronx.
This street runs through the neighborhood of University Heights, divides Fordham from Fordham-Bedford and finally runs along the northern border of Belmont. It begins at its eastern point as a continuation of Pelham Parkway and at its western point continues over the University Heights Bridge into Manhattan, where it runs as West 207th Street. It is a two-way, four-lane road. East of Webster Avenue Fordham Road runs concurrent with U.S. Route 1 from Webster Avenue to Boston Road. Fordham Road is divided into East Fordham Road and West Fordham Road by Jerome Avenue following after the Manhattan grid, with address numbers for both the East Fordham Road and West Fordham Road increasing away from Jerome Avenue.
Fordham Road is under the management of the Fordham Road Business Improvement District, a non-profit organization under contract with the City of New York. The BID maintains, develops, and markets the merchants along Fordham Road and hosts many community events throughout the year."

as a kid in the late 70's early 80's from australia, the bronx had a huge influence on me from seeing the movie the warriors and the breakdance hip hops days like music from beat street, electric boogaloo etc......i gotta get to the bronx before i get old. love it.
I'm talking about the hip hop artists and songs hat came out of the Bronx , the spray painted trains etc.
I get the whole music and dance aspect. Believe me it was a fun time as hip hop and break dancing by blacks and Puerto Rican seemed to be dominating the landscape..lol....I Remembered being in school and watch break dance “battles “ almost daily. Fun times...You’d be surprised, the Bronx is a huge borough. There is history of Dutch, Native American and early colonial periods there to see. Some parts are not even recognizable to what folks who don’t live there and (even some that do) consider to be the Bronx. I would say yes there are high crime areas and there are areas you can raise a family....if you can afford housing and tax costs....🤔 I was raised in the west Bronx area. It was predominantly an Irish neighborhood (as an Australian you can appreciate that😁) with many Jewish, Greek and some Cubans and Puerto Ricans. Now those groups are dwindling and it’s becoming very crowded with Dominican and middle eastern immigrants. I would say it’s an interesting place to visit and if you get a good guide to take you around with great knowledge you’d enjoy it. But with caution I’d say crime is prevalent in some areas and from what I see what’s going on with the NYC government “management style” let’s say, I’d probably stay away.
@@cyberjoe77 cheers , thankyou for that. yeah a good guide taking me around would be best. boogie down bronx
I'm so happy I grew up in the Bronx during that era. It was awesome.
you have to just for the experience fordham road is full of neat stores and you will love every minute of it, but you have to get there real early I say 10 a.m. when the stores open, you walk on one side start off at webster ave and walk down toward jerome ave, then cross over and walk back up
I grew up in the Bronx. Fordham was a shopping hub for the Bronx. Alexander’s was the main store and there were loads of small businesses (not chains). There were good shoe stores, handbag stores and if you wanted designer clothes you went to
Loehmans. There was a really good yarn store too and Jahn’s Ice Cream Parlor. They’re was also a big Army Navy store that we went to for jeans, corduroys, blue work shirts, painters pants and overalls ( it was the 70’s). I loved the Zoo. I volunteered there and at the Botanical Garden when I was in high school. There was a Howard Johnson’s near the Zoo that had an all you could eat fish fry on Fridays. I remember at Pelham Parkway there was a Chock Full-o-Nuts coffee shop on the corner where you got the subway. They served their famous date nut bread cream cheese sandwiches. I liked their whole wheat donuts. My cousin had a kosher Deli on Leydig Ave. There was also a good Jewish bakery. I also remember a small store that sold ladies undergarments. My mother bought me a cotton half slip there. I hated the polyester slips, they were too hot. In the 70’s you wouldn’t think of going out without a slip if you wore a dress or skirt.
Thank you very much for sharing the history of this area with all of us 😊
I caught the tail end of these stores before they all closed in the 80's. It was a real community back then & great place to grow up. I miss it.
Yes, those were the good old days. I miss them. Aside from not going out without a slip under your dress or skirt, you weren't dressed unless you were wearing stockings. No one went out with bare legs. Today its the total opposite.
@Luis Ishmael It was the good old days for me and most people in my community who did not get involved in the crack and murder epidemic. At that time there was a sense of community and we all cared for and looked out for one another.. not like now where its every man for himself and nobody gives a damn about their neighbor.
YOUR COUSIN DELI ?
IS THIS THE SAME FELLOW WHO OWNED THE CARVEL ICE REAM SHOP THAT SUDDENLY BURNED DOWN ???
Bro! I left NY almost 12 years ago and never looked or went back. Fordham Rd. Kingsbridge and Bedford park were my stomping grounds. You brought back alot of memories.
I left the Bronx way back in March '93. I went back there in 2017 and 2324 Walton Avenue definitely changed. P.S. 33, I.S. 115 and Theodore Roosevelt HS!
I feel like you’re a good friend and tour guide. It sure does seem like the heart of NY on that Bronx Street. Most interesting and fun. Thank you, as always.
You’re welcome 😊
There's a lot of other places like this in NY too
@@hereisayana8207 Yeah, but the topic of the video is The Bronx.
There were four movie theaters on Fordham. Btwn Jerome and the Grand Concourse was the Capri and the Lido. the RKO movie theater was where Dr. Jay store is now. The Valentine movie theater the next block over. Where Best Buy is now was Sears Department Store. The building with that "Guggeheim" look was long known as the "hatbox building." Dick Guidron's Cadillac dealership, a longtime successful black owned business, was located a block before Southern Blvd. Many owners of a Cadillac in the city and surrounding areas likely bought it from there. Well, so many stores came and went there on Fordham.
It was called Loew's Paradise Movie theater. Spent many summer days and nights in those theaters and hitting the Cucifritos after.
Thanks for the info!
They expanded that Best Buy into the huge sears that was there? That’s insane I new sears was closing down but didn’t know Best Buy made it part of the store. Haven’t been to Fordham in a long time.
@@ActionKid ur welcome!
@@masterofmashup1737 Loew's Paradise with that wonderful star-studded night sky ceiling is on Grand Concourse, two blocks from Fordham. It's still there but I believe it's employed as a storefront church. It could be revived to its former glory but it'd be wasted on that neighborhood imho
Looks like nothing I remember growing up as a kid in de Bronx. Alexander’s is gone no Loews theater, jans? Etc. Things evolve, change and you really can’t go back and think everything stays at a standstill.. very different world.!
True, The Bronx I remember when I would visit in the summers of 1986,87,88 & 89 are gone....The Bronx was scary back then & dirty....
Ohhh Jan's! I think it was actually spelled Jahn's! What a treat that was as a kid!
I love my city. But clean up the place. Please!
I feel your pain, Doug. Where is the Lowes Paradise? Alexanders, Open shops on Bathgate ave. Art Decco apartments,, great memories
It has even changed plenty since the early 2000s
Born and raised in The Bronx...grew up in University Heights (West Bronx). I used to either walk from my house through Fordham Rd to get to my High School (Theodore Roosevelt) or take the BX12 depending on the weather or time. Bronx kid for life 🙏🏾
Wow!! Thank you for the tour of my hometown, things has truly changed for the better. Fordham Rd was always my favorite for shopping spot when I was in HS.
You’re welcome 😊
@@ActionKid Great job on this....I was so young to remember but my mom talked often about Fordham rd. She has passed on but This is Awesome to see 💋😇💋 Thank U 🙏🙏
NYC has its own feeling to it, nowhere in the world compares
Honestly thank you for walking in my neighborhood
Hi Chris, in your opinion how is this neighborhood. Does it feel ok safe wise is it changing
Great job! Husband and I watched the entire video. Very Nostalgic! Thank you!
Thank you for this incredible tour! Our daughter has been accepted to Fordham University and due to Covid, we are unable to visit in person, so your walking tour of the area was the next best thing to being there! You're amazing! We look so forward to watching your Arthur Ave. tour next. Thank you so much for all!
Broooooo! It's been like 6 years since I last got to come through the Bronx, this was my spot to do everything fam. Much respect and good looks for sharing. You just made my day. Brought back so many good memories. Stay Blessed!
Thank you 😃
AK, those lonely streets, all that traffic and those hairy street crossings at the end - I was so relieved when you got to the subway!! Stay safe!
Padmalochan Sage 😂😂😂😂😂 right? 👌
Being a Bronx native, I loved Fordham road growing up. The high school was Theodore Roosevelt. I remember the White Castle being down that was and the Bronx zoo. Nice video, took me back. Thanks.
People don’t realize there are so many sections of The Bronx and it’s beautiful and Historical.
Lady ghana
Exactly ...
Very true
💯🎯
Yup
And dangerous
though I prefer daytime walking tours to better see detail - this was a nice walk through my Bronx. Thanks ActionKid!
I've walked this route many times to visit the Botanical Gardens, and even once all the way to Pelham Parkway, but never at night. Thanks for this view of the Bronx after dark. Love your walking adventures!
Thank you for highlighting Fordham Road! Some people have bad ideas about the Bronx. Your video shows the Bronx is just like every other city: stores, restaurants, and people who are enjoying their life!
I did a super chat asking for more walks in non-rich shopping districts the other day, fast service lol. Thanks, Action Kid.
That little handshake at 1:03... they both wiped their hands on their jackets in the same place at the same time 😂😂
Thank you for Walking me through my old neighborhood Fordham road
I was born and raised in the Bronx I moved 18 years ago My 🤍 will always be in the Bronx.. the stores have changed a lot over the years It’s like a outside mall
my aunt lived on the Fordham U. side of Fordham Rd.,between Aurther and Hughes Aves., Visited her many times between mid 50's until mid 60's, when she moved to Elm Place. Love this vid brings back great memories.
That DMV on Fordham and Crotona, years ago was the busiest Cadillac dealer in the city. Dick Gidron Cadillac, they had a roof top parking full of Caddys, his showroom had the best looking Caddys. All the wiseguys bought their cars from him, you know, the Italian looking Caddys. He had a private booth in a restaurant on 75th and 3rd avenue in manhattan, it was named Friscos. The boys owned it.
Wow.. that's a good story.. I walk by there often.. never knew a caddy dealership was there..
Such a great feeling
If you are a student you can get an entire back to school wardrobe with hot street styles for great prices. Best Italian pizza is fab!!!
The Fordham Bus Plaza in The Bronx reminds me of The Atlantic Terminal Mall in Downtown Brooklyn.
R.I.P to the old Bronx😢. Born and raised in this neighborhood.
I'm from Fordham rd I Live on university Ave.... Thanks for showing this video too the public...
LOVEIZLOVE
I went to Roosevelt High school back in late 90's. Thank you for this great video 👍. I cant believe White Castle is still there.
Excellent! Thank you very much. Superb Quality!
You made me so home sick right now!!!!! I was born and raised in the Bronx. Fordham road has changed so much! The Bronx Zoo! You passed my old bus stop in front of the Zoo. I went to St. Catherine's Academy on Williams Bridge Road. You really made my evening! Thank you.
Awesome videos once again!!🤗🤗
Amazing video! Walked all of that before but never seened it on avideo. Looks nice n lively.
There will be no taking of Pelham 1 2 3 with the Action Kid on the beat. 🌙 🚶 !
I remember when Alexanders, on Fordham Road & Grand Concourse, opened on Sunday for the first time after the blue laws ended and it was wall to wall people.
I’m sure.
Delightful. I went to Fordham U. over 40 years ago and I worked part-time jobs at E&B Supermarkets, Arthur Treachers (both down by Jerome Ave) and also security in the children's exhibit in the Bronx Zoo. Good news, White Castle is still there.
Class of 1980.
It has been a while since I've been back. Heart of The Bronx, Fordham rd. Work days there, and attended/graduated from a Business college above the workplace while i raised my son, his Beloved dad and I. Whether summer heat, snow rain blizzards, I didn't miss a walk from home at Harrison and Burnside, to drop off my son at daycare then to Jerome Ave catch #4. Thanks for sharing great video👏
Wow AWESOME video, that was my neighborhood practically all my life. And I left to Florida 14yrs a go, and eas there done years, but wow its changed.. Awesome video, awesome camera!!!
I was born in 1950, and I lived on Creston Avenue (across from Saint James Park) until 1988. Fordham Road and the Grand Concourse were my childhood stomping grounds, and I have so many great memories of that wonderful neighborhood. I enjoyed your video tour, but find Fordham Rd almost unrecognizable now. All the stores I once knew are long gone. I'm happy to see that it's still clean and well maintained!
Hey, I'm 4 blocks away from Saint James over on University Avenue.
The RKO Fordham is long gone.
The 3rd Ave El used to run along Webster Ave in the Bronx. It was torn down in 1974
Best Buy building on Webster ave used to be Sears for many years.
Danny Espinal
Yupp
Sears was where Macy’s on fifth Avenue is now Best Buy always been there 15 plus years
Another great video, AK, from an old Bronx kid. Lots of memories watching this one. Back in my day (1950-60), there once was one of the main entrances to the zoo right on the corner of Fordham and Southern Blvd - also a Howard Johnson's restaurant across the street. There was nothing like an ice cream sundae after visiting the zoo! Also a small amusement park with a few kid's rides along Southern Blvd. just south of Fordham Rd. The zoo, ice cream and rides made for quite a day for a little kid!!!
I remember all of those well
WOW! the Bronx looks like such a vibrant and interesting area! Would love to come and visit New York at some point and shoot some video :)
Fordham Road is always a treat for an annual visitor like me. I really hope the recent spate of looting and vandalism has not spoiled this area for good.
It is...
If you value your life you will stay away from the Bronx
Yeah you might wanna reconsider your location
its a dump
I love your tours I grew up in the Bronx now I live in Chelsea for the last 30 years. We would never say we’re going to the the subway if it was above ground we say we’re going to the EL. Meaning elevated train.
Thank U for going to my ole steppingstone The Bronx ❤️born and raise in Fordham Road and University Ave,,Wow you Walked so fast lol a little bit more you would’ve Whine up in City Island or Orchard Beach 😩Great job🙏🏽
Nice...i am from Puerto Rico 🇵🇷 but i live in The Bronx..👍💪

Good video, I enjoyed it. Fordham Road is one of my favorite shopping spots
Excellent video 🤗
I used shop there when I lives in the Bronx. Nostalgia moment.
Thanks for this walk i miss the Bronx so much omg !! 💯 good vibes
Yes.😊 💜❤
I was there yesterday! around the mid morning hours walking around Fordham, plus I live five blocks away from there.
Thank you for letting me know. You got me emotional. I miss my hometown and last time I was there you feel like there’s never enough time to visit every spot 💕✌🏽
That was my old high school, Theodore Roosevelt High. Class of 1990. Back then-one of the most notorious schools in the Bronx. It was so bad, there’s a documentary out there with Tom Selleck narrating how messed up it was. I used to walk this same route to go to school. Looks like the neighborhood has changed a lot since then. Alexander’s and Lowe’s are gone. I see Gyro King is still there, however. I live in suburbia on the other side of the country now, but I do occasionally miss the colorful characters, the energy and bustle of the old neighborhood.
12 bus to orchard beach or city island 😄😄😄💗
There's no place like home. Miss my Bronx
Great video. I like the scenary.
This is an excellent video that is well produced and well narrated. you captured some really great landmarks of Fordham Road and the early beginnings of Pelham parkway. it has changed quite a lot. When I was a kid there used to be a Howard Johnson's restaurant across the street from the Bronx zoo at the corner of Fordham Road and southern boulevard. there used to be an RKO Fordham movie theater near the intersection of the Grand concourse and Fordham Road. of course don't forget there used to be a Sears department store right where the Best buy store currently is in that building at the corner of Webster Avenue and Fordham Road. This is great footage and I'm glad you were able to produce this video safely. You were smart to carry a flashlight with you!
Thank you very much!
I made a point of touring the Bronx on a vacation trip a few years ago. Took the 2 train to the historic station building at E 181 then walked west to Southern Blvd, a quick trip around the Bronx zoo, then west on Fordham Rd. Toured the University campus the took Metro North back to GCT. Memorable!
Awesome!
You should do smaller streets in the Bronx such as 170, 161 and 149 by the 4 Train
My favorite borough.
Well done and good walk thanks for posting.
You should do Bay Plaza (Co-op City) when you have the chance!
I should!
Bronx botanical gardens is one of the largest in USA
I went to the HS across the street. We would skip classes just to wander around the botanical gardens.
Hey, my old neighborhood! Grand concourse back in the day!
I remember walking from my house on Bruckner Blvd to Parkchester across East Tremont ro Pelham Pkwy then to Roosevelt HS for summer school and back..that was a troop. In the early 80's
Great ! Every time I watch Your video, really want go to walk with you in NYC🗽 !
Once again, ActionKid has everything under control in NYC!
I love the small neighbor streets in NY. the little old stores and diners.

Nice walk on Fordam.. the 4 train ride there must have been fun lolz..

I know! Super awesome handshake!
Eventho I no longer live in NY ....I will always be a New Yorker. @11:08 that’s where I got my first and only tat lol. You had yourself a good walk. Thanks for the video
Cousins Record Shop on Fordham by Webster Ave, staffed by young men wearing shirt and ties and sporting long hair and bushy sideburns, was the goto place for every imaginable LP and 45rpm you could think of. They had it all. Musical instruments as well. I spent many Saturdays there during my grade school years perusing thru their vast record collections.
bought a few 45s there myself

i remember growing up in the area and ending up graduating from fordham university, I remember as a kid walking passed fordham with my dad thinking it was a big park and we were on our way in and a guard stopped us, only to return there as a student years later,I havent been back there since i graduated in 1998 but let me tell you I loved every minute of it even going to school at Monroe College too
Nice memories......I used to live one stop away from Fordham Rd.
Wow! A trip down memory lane. Just before White Castle on the right is my high school. Grace Dodge Vocational High School.

The Bronx is and always will be the best!
windowshopping at The Bronx , cool!
I remember eating at Beefsteak Charlie's on my sixteenth birthday.
My daughter and I lived in Beaumont and I worked at Alexander's for a long time. So many good memories
Theodore roosevelt is a high school. There may be more than 1 school in the building. I attended that hs many years ago
Thanks, that’s why I was so confused!
Graduated There in 1986 Wow
Many of these schools now have several schools in them
You need to do one on 125th st and Lexington Ave that would be a classic😂🤣
My Aunt and uncle lived on Laconia Ave. in the Bronx, where I would spend many summers. I was born in the Bronx, but my parents moved to New Jersey in 1955, when I was 5 years old. I've been on all those streets, way back in the day. My grandparents, who were born in Sweden, migrated in the late 1800's and settled in the Bronx where they raised all their children.
My mom and grandparents and aunts and uncle all lived in the Bronx and Brooklyn and then spread out to Levittown and Bethpage and Massapequa. My mom always talked about Fordham rd 😄😄
As a kid on Long island I remember Jolly Rogers as so fun 😁😁😁
You're in my part of town! The Best pizza shop has been there more than 40 years I believe, so has Gyro King where you first mentioned the dollar pizza shop. I love The Bronx. I was born in Puerto Rico but I came at 6 months old, so The Bronx is really my home. Elm Place had a really good Chinese restaurant called Hay Lemon. Best Chinese restaurant in The Bronx, but that's just my opinion.
Loved it!!!
crossing fordham rd...little to your right was the famous Loews paradise Theatre...Berlintogs is at Webster ave off Fordham to you left
nice restaurants around the area...I travel there to do my Clothing Shoppings...Born and Raised at 182-183 and Ryer Ave
