I went from a Hilux invincible to this exact spec of Proace about 6 months ago and I love it. Very comfy and good on the road. Has lots of driver aids that wasn’t even mentioned in this video (keyless entry, adaptive cruise control, tyre pressure sensors to name a few) and is a very nice place to be for a long drive. Auto box makes it very easy to drive and HUD is surprisingly useful. So far so good! Oh, and flappy paddles is good for engine braking down a hill and keeping in a gear when towing. Only negative is the mount for the gear wheel thing sticks out a bit far into the leg area of a middle passenger making long journeys pretty uncomfortable.
Tom here: Absolutely, it's packed with kit - the HUD is a personal favourite feature. Yep... the gear stick mount... it's the same on all the Groupe PSA vans - the person in the middle has room for only one leg.
The Toyota appears to be the most expensive option available on this platform but you get what you pay for. I went for the two litre diesel Expert Pro because it edged the fuel economy figures. The excellent Peugeot diesel consistently manages well over 50mpg on motorways and still in the high forties around town. It provides all the power you need below 2000rpm, producing maximum torque at 1750rpm, so that probably explains it.
Is there any benefit in one of these vans over the other? When it really matters over owning it for say 5 years, would I really notice a difference between the dispatch, expert, etc?

Tom here: Thanks for the view, M, and glad you enjoyed the video. PSA Group account for nearly 40% of the choice of vehicles available to van drivers in the UK... they're in a really strong position.
As a long established commercial user 100k per year I can tell you if you are into serious use then get a manfacturer that has service ties with truck service outlets...they are usually 24/7 operations. Renault,Merc and Man are 3 that spring to mind. Dealing through car showrooms with a van salesman attatched will give you blood pressure problems

Tom here: It's a common point of view. I'm a big fan of how body-coloured panels make the van look, but they're a vulnerable spot on the van for damage.
The reality is that all those bits and trim details, are all fine and dandy. BUT the typical fleet owner will count their pennies and trow the options to the bin! Pure and simple. ;-) Not a single one of those details makes for better, faster or cheaper deliveries! But they do add a pretty sum by the end of the day. By simply adding cost where usually cost is not desired. Example: Your typical fine looking alloy wheel, looks better indeed. But it's way pricier, repairs are a "bitch", it's heavier than it's steel counterpart, don't provide better economy or safety, etc. So you're paying for the looks and ABSOLUTELY nothing else! With this said, options are just fine, but having the "choice" of your options its the real advantage. ;-)

The anoying energy saving turns off interrior lights, radio and so on after just 5 minutes. It's cramped as fuck, only way with the seat is all the way back to fit a normal size person. The heater blows way to far up on the window resulting in the wipers never melt in the winter and will pack a bog icecake where they rest. Meaning you have to go out every half hour on a snowy day in the city and try to get it removed. The car is fitted with roll back crap that doesn't work and can't be turned of. The anoying roll back that can't be turned of and won't release the brakes when you want tomdrive away. The chassi is weak as fuck with cracking windscreen as result. The front axel needs to be moved forward and rearaxel backwards, as now with load its impossible to get any real weight over the front axel even if you load it directly behind the seat. It also makes it hopeless with a trailer on the hitch Oyeah, on of that every single one has already started to rust
At least two of those complains, interior light and roll back feature can be set electronically. Talk to your dealer... it's part of configurable features. In fact all modern vehicles have a bunch of options to turn on/off accordingly. This one is no different.

I quite like the previous Hiace though that's here in Australia and am looking at purchasing one sooner or later.
I like everything about the Proace Verso.
The old Hiace was worth 10 of them
Tom here: I think the Hiace was a great van too, but this is a modern van for the modern user.
@@vanaramauk but its not a true Toyota, Toyota buyers buy Toyota for a reason
@@rabbitskinner might as well buy a Citroen or a Vauxhall and have done. These aren't real Toyotas
@@shaungilmartin1505 I'm in Oz mate turns out we get a v6 Toyota petrol or a 2.8 Hilux diesel engine
I take it it’s a Peugeot engine?
Tom here: It's the Groupe PSA engine.
Vanarama .....so Peugeot then...
@@dgbservices6049 Tom here: You'll find it in all of them, from Vauxhall to Peugeot.
So can you say who manufactures the engine please
This looks like it would be perfect for the work I do. I’m sad Toyota doesn’t offer this in America
I've just ordered two Peugeot Expert ashphalt 180's and apart from the mame badges and the front 18 inches it has everything and more than this proace. AND it was cheaper. I think Toyota (let's remember how long the last Hiace was in production 1996-2013/14) did not want to spend the money on creating a new van,. OOO, Hello Mr psa, can we have a go too!!
Tom here: I think you'd be surprised how much platform sharing costs (admittedly nowhere near as much as it does to develop a van platform). But when you consider how many vans are on shared platforms, it's actually a very common practice.
Ya ..but its a peugeot..itll break.
@@cooleyballs1 - It's kind of funny reading ignorant comments like that... Recall the triplets Peugeot 107, Citroen C1, Toyota Aygo? Most problems from the first generations where from the... Toyota part of the deal!! What about that? LOL 😂 Let's see, clutch, alternator...
Things like brakes or rear suspension, etc. are never heard of. Curiously, look to the big brother, of a similar generation, Peugeot 307 identical suspension. Pretty much, yes!
Please avoid this van it's plagued with problems. Thank god for the warrenty less then 23k and major leaks developed around the engine turbo failure. The engine was replaced and we're still having problems. Our 2 vw crafters have been spot on.
Tom here: Sorry to hear you've had trouble with this van. Glad the Crafters are working out for you though - great van that.
French cr@p I rest my case, VW for me or Hyundai from now on. The old Hiace models were unbelievably reliable...
What engine buddy?
Why oh why isn't this van for sale in the U.S???? he would sell like hot cakes...
Cause it's shit. The hole body is weak as fuck with cracking windows as result. Just opening the door will flex the chassi where hinges are.
Shortly it's the worst Van I ever driven. I rather get a 30 year old rustbuckwt than this shit that atleast let me drive it and use it like a van.
Iceeeen
Hahahaha, you sound like an old washerwoman! 🤣🤣🤣
I love it.
Tom here: Yep, gotta love the Proace.
This van is looking better than TOYOTA cars.
Why TOYOTA does't use this infotainment system in their cars?
Tom here: I agree, it's a great van. It's because the van's infotainment system comes from PSA Group, not Toyota.
@@vanaramauk Thanx for replying Tom” , That’s why I said because Japanese car manufacturers have the worst infotainment systems fitted in their cars e.g: Toyota, Nissan, Mazda, Honda, Mitsubishi, Subaru, Daihatsu, Isuzu, Suzuki, and the worst of all LEXUS because it’s a luxury brand,
Each and every single brand competes with each other who fits the crappiest system in their cars.
I’m buying Vauxhall as Toyota won’t give configuration I want and Toyota way too expensive, I’ve always been Toyota fan but it would cost me £8/10,000 more to get 6 Seats so went for vivaro sportive which has good trim levels and lots extra tech otherwise very similar
i love mine!
I've been self-employed plasterer for 25 year I've had 2 Toyota hiaces that's how good they are .this van is not a Toyota it's a French built bag of shit .I buy Toyota vehicles cos of the build quality so iam currently on the look out for a 2011 hiace with about 100000 mile's on it that will last me 8 to 10 year easily with no trouble at all
Worst shit ever produced in the last 30 years, 15 of these nightmares at work. The anoying energy saving turning off the interior lights after 5 minutes. The stupid heater blows air way to high up on the screen and makes a fucking a ice cake everytime it snows.
It also makes it hopeless with a trailer on the hitch
Oyeah, on of that every single one has already started to rust
At least two of those complains, interior light and roll back feature can be set electronically.
Talk to your dealer... it's part of configurable features. In fact all modern vehicles have a bunch of options to turn on/off accordingly. This one is no different.
Paddles in a van, they are about has useful has a tit on a trouts back. How does that cheap bit of rotating plastic vaguely resemble a mobile office , the transit knocks spots off it, although the Transit dash needs covers to stop nasty reflections, mpg is impressive though much better than the Transit 2.0 Auto which real world is 32.4
Tom here: I agree with your comments about paddles - although they work well in the Proace. I like the "mobile office", gives me somewhere to rest my notepad while I'm writing the Top 5s. I also agree that the Transit is really good - it's a bit of a benchmark van.
I have no interest on complicated frills obliterating to go faulty .keep it simple.
Tom here: Fair enough!
when you use meter, please use the wise unit of fuel comsumption (liter/100 km). When British and Americans can learn wisdom and logic?
So many people have problems with this
fake Toyota witch is acctualy a Peugeot
Tom here: That's the crux of platform sharing. I'm a big fan of the new Proace, however, I think it's one of the best medium vans out there.
I have one like this toyota gays this van not good at all allways Automatic braking system faulty and Engnlihgt one for no reason I go to Toyota dealer they don't know how to fix because this Van mix toyota puget . I don't recommend this van for anyone.i have this problems i really don't know what can I just keep lothen money all the time .please gays don't even think about it don't makes me stake like me .I wish everyone have like this van be honest and said
Tom here: Sad to hear you've had trouble with the van, never nice to hear. What van are you thinking of upgrading to?
lots of vans now are the same cheap delicate rubbish with different badges on. few stand up to the test of time and work or the green restrictions imposed upon diesels.
Tom here: You think their days are numbered?
@@vanaramauk in my business we expected vans to last 300k plus. Alot of these modern things seem to be throwing major tantrums @ the 150k mark
Toyota is no longer Toyota...Now they are Subaru, or BMW or Vauxhall.
Tom here: And when it comes to LCV they're all PSA Group!
That type of van is not even in the United States
Tom here: Which is a shame because it's really good. Great interior, great prices, great loading bay.
Your lucky it’s rubbish, I had one for a year and sold it. Suspension was soft loaded up like on overloaded estate car, the doors creak under body flex when it drops off a curb. After 40k miles my mechanic called it the Toyota Prolapse the engine shit itself on numerous seals. Build quality was tragic not sure how this reviewer thought it was good.
@@3261carl Tom here: Because the model I reviewed was really good. I hate hearing people have had bad experiences with vans, just like I am now.
Vanarama I completely understand you only went out in the van for a small drive, initially I was happy maybe just blinded by all the tech the van had to offer.
@@3261carl Tom here: It happens, still, I'd rather be driving one of these with all the tech than one without. :)
I'm not a fan of the new PSA group chassis for these vans. The design is ugly in my opinion. Too curvy and looks like a box on wheels. I loved the previous generation!
The German duo, Mercedes and VW, are too pricey, and VW has become generic.
I like the Renault Trafic and Nissan NV400. Cheap, good looking, and great value for money!
Ford... horrible, in Belgium and rest of Europe, they're bad, I hate Fords. but I see in the UK and Ireland they're going strong.
Tom here: Having seen and reviewed them all now (the medium vans) I quite like them - they feel like a home from home. But I totally understand your point of view.
@@vanaramauk Oh for sure! PSA Peugeot Citroen build great vans that make you feel cosy! I'm sure it's got the driving pleasure! It's just the exterior design really, but it's fine XD

That's not a Toyota its a shitty old rebadged Citroen
Tom here: It's not old - this is the latest EMP2 platform van from PSA Group shared by the Citroen Dispatch, Vauxhall Vivaro, Peugeot Expert & Toyota Proace. They've all been updated with the latest Euro 6.2 1.5-litre diesel engines too. They're about as close to cutting-edge as they can be.
