More Details Below!
Some people are having issues at the 2:45 minute mark. I made a GIF that I hope helps further explain that! bit.ly/1GVWYRe
Addition notes:
Leather needles are useful! I also bought 2 yards for this project and didn't need all of it. Straps can be long, so just be sure to account for that. If you have any questions please let me know.

Fine and cute bags
you got really good skills! i really like this.super nice! can i make one like this using canvas or other fabric?sewing the square part got me confused.i hope you'll make another video of a detailed tutorial :)
Thank you :) I made this little GIF that explains that part more bit.ly/1GVWYRe
You can make it using canvas or another fabric, just remember that the lighter the fabric is the less shape it will hold. Happy sewing!
Jade Tyler love ur work. What type of sewing machine do you have
Thank you! I use a Janome HD1000~
Simple and beautiful! I'm going into business
Love this tote and the color! great tutorial :) new subbie...I have DIYs on my channel as well:)
you think i could make this in suede?
vc deveria ter mostrado a costura por dentro seria legal.
Hi! Kindly explain 2:47. I didnt get how you would sew each square at the bottom. Thanks! This video is very helpful and straight forward!
+Concep S. Hi! Does this image help you? bit.ly/1GVWYRe If not let me know and I will try to explain more :)
+Jade Tyler that solves it! Thanks so much!
Concep S. glad i could help :)
I love this tutorial. What are the dimensions of the base of the bag once sewn?
Hi! If you were to put a piece of hard plastic in the bottom of the purse, and look at the base of it, I think it would be 6 inches x 13 inches? Somewhere around there. I don't have the purse with me right now to actually measure. It might be a little less than 6x13 because thats not accounting for seam allowance. When I have the purse with me I will measure it and post another comment with exact dimensions!
what kind of pen is that it seems to mark really well on leather
Hi! It's fabric chalk! I'm not sure what brand mine is but it is very much the same as the product I have linked for you. www.joann.com/clover-chaco-liner-markers-choice-of-colors/prd2803.html#start=31
Jade, Thanks for this video. I am having trouble with the bottoms at 2:45 and how that is actually done with pulling them together to create a sealed bottom. Any help would be appreciated.
Hi! Hope this helps: oi61.tinypic.com/mjwmzc.jpg
Jade Tyler Thanks a bunch, that is perfect!
Will you be able to show the same with a fabric lining & maybe a zipper pouch within??would be great if you could. Thanks!
Greeshma Jithin Hi! Maybe one day, but for now it's not in my list of "to dos". A quick google search on how to insert a zipper & how to line a tote will help! I would link you to one myself but I have limited internet at the moment. You will have to line the tote before putting the straps on. If you can't find a good one, let me know and I will try to further walk you through it.
What size of needle are you using for faux leather fabric that don't snap? Thank you!!!
Celia Rose You can use a leather needle. On the needle case at the store it reads Leather Needles.
por favor como se chama esse tecido?
Nice and simple tutorial. However, I didn't quite get the width of the straps. What width should the strap be cut at, please?
Hi! Thanks! Cut them however you want! They will be folded in half, so whatever final width you want, double it. Example, if you want them to be 2 inches wide, cut them 4 inches wide. Happy sewing :)
Beautiful tote. wich thread i«and needle size did you use ?
+Glória Rafaela Thank you! I don't remember what size I used. For thread, I just tried to find what was on the stronger side. It depends on what specific fabric you get, so the store should be able to help you!
hank you so much for answering :D
god bless you
Did you use a leather needle? Special foot? The bag is gorgeous!
Thank you! Yes, I used a leather needle, no special foot! A special foot might be required for some machines though, and will make sewing the tote easier.
Hi can you make a longer tutorial on how to make this bag? It is so short you kind of glossed over how to do the corners, no offense. Also, how did you achieve the shape of your handles at the bottom where you sew it to the bag? It's very professional looking, did you use a special tool on the leather? And one last thing, did you use heavy weight thread, or top stitching thread? Thank you so much.
This video will not be remade! I have answered a lot of questions about the corners so if you read through the comments you should find your answer :) I made this gif to help explain the corners of the bag bit.ly/1GVWYRe . For the end of the straps, as explained in the video @3:02, fold the straps in half and stitch a couple inches from the edge. This makes it so that you can lay the ends of the strap flat on the bag. I did not use a special tool on the leather. I used leather needles and regular leather machine thread. Let me know if you have more questions!!
hi, very nice bag but i believe he was asking how did you acquire the SHAPE on the end of the straps and what tool did you use. thank you
i want to buy same colour same tote bag from should i buy any idea ?
madewell usually always has them but they are ~$130
How wide are the straps before folding them to sew?
amywyse Hi! It is up to you, but no less than two inches. If you use two inches, when you fold it in half that will give you a strap that is an inch wide.
Any particular size needle to sew this type of material?
hmm, well it depends on how thick your leather is. Be sure you do some tests on the fabric you have because leather needles punch holes, so if it isn't the right size it will leave holes in the fabric. A lot of the packaging on needles have guides on the back of them!
Hey is that San Diego, I recognize my hmtown anywhere.
yes! coronado :)
wooooooooh...................... good looking.... i'll make this........ i can.................... lolllll.....
What kind of leather have you used?
+Carolina Urbina Hi! I used recycled leather!
hopefully someone can answer this, how big is that original piece of leather she has?
+Paul DiBenedetto hi! I bought this recycled leather from an upholstery store, so the bolt was much longer than usual. I'm not sure what the width of the bolt was but it was one of the bigger types. I asked for two yards of the fabric, but I didn't use all of it.
What type of sewing machine do you use?
+Enchantis Davis Hi! I now use a Janome HD1000. Make sure you use leather needles :)
At 2:27 you start to seww up the sides. Right at the very start of your sewing at the bottom I can see like a little diagonal cut or line, it's quite small. Was curious if you had a trick of your own that you didn't show.. thanks so much.
+Rhonda Tadelman Hi! I'm not sure if I am seeing what you are referring to. Does it look like an actual cut or do you see yellow chalk?
This is kinda an odd question, but was there a reason you cut the fabric out bang in the middle of the fabric? If you'd cut it out on the edge, would it have not saved a lot of the off cuts that you could have used for another project?
lVleecho This is a valid question! I can't remember why, I think I did it purely for aesthetics? I would normally move the pattern shape to the edge like you have suggested but I think I wanted to make sure that you could see clearly what was going on so I just cut it in the middle! So yes, it would have saved fabric.
Jade Tyler haha Ok! Yea I often see people on RUclips doing the same thing and here I am saving tiny offcuts incase I could use them later :P thought I was maybe missing out on something obvious! Great tutorial btw :)
lVleecho Thank you I'm glad you enjoyed it :) Good luck in your sewing adventures!
In starting a fashion business selling cool t shirts. This is something I gotta make and sell
I can't see how you did the bottom corners. can you help?

accidentally hit enter before typing the rest of my message. did the gif not help?
Thx luv
thank you
:) you are welcome~
I didn't get the square part. How do I pull it to lay flat
Hi! Are you referring to 2:45?
Where you bought the leather?
It's recycled fabric from a local store that is no longer in business :(
Hola! Maybe this would help www.inches-to-cm.com/
what size leather needle did you use?
i don't remember!! ahah sorry :( it wasn't very large, it was just a normal leather needle on the machine. sorry if that wasn't helpful...
No problem, probably 100 or 110 then.
Hi How much fabric did you use? Thanks
+Ulrica Brooks Hi! Sorry I didn't see this comment sooner! The body, depending on the size you choose, doesn't need more than a yard. You will have to make two long straps, so it depends on how long you want those to be. I think I bought two yards of the fabric because I always buy more than what I need!! Just get your measurements before you go to the store~
Hi, okay thanks for responding!!
+Jade Tyler ...what brand and style sewing machine do you use?
Singer limited edition
Nice tote
But it's easier to add the straps before sewing the sides
Is this recycled leather?
Yes! I got it from an upholstery store that went out of business :(
Well actually I think it was faux leather made from recycled materials
From your video, it looks like before you sewed up the sides, you sewed (or drew) a diagonal line from the corner to the seam allowance. Can you explain this. You did this on the bottom and the top. What do you do with that and is it for turning, meaning to make the seam not so bulky. If you could explain in detail it would be much appreciated.
+Rhonda Tadelman Hi! Could you tell me where in the video you are referring to? If you are referring to 1:43, I drew diagonal lines in the 3x3 inch squares to indicate that they will be cut out. I was worried while filming that you wouldn't be able to see them! But those two squares are only on the bottom. Let me know if you have any other questions!
you are beautiful ^^
awsam
Yes at that point 2:45
Okay! I made this for you...hope it helps! oi61.tinypic.com/mjwmzc.jpg
you're AMAZINGGGGG THANK YOUUUUU!!!!!
shay t hehe :) happy sewing!
Jade Tyler is the 19 inch measurement from the selvedge or are you measuring 19 inches from just any point on the fabric?
Patrick Williamson Hello! For some reason I didn't get a notification of your comment! I'm assuming you mean the 19 inch mark towards the beginning of the video. You can mark anywhere on the fabric, as long as its along the fold of the fabric. If you don't cut on the fold of the fabric, you won't have enough fabric for the purse and will essentially only have half of the purse.
Mame you very pretty.
That bag does not contain the base to keep it in place. It doesn't look good because of that factor. Thanks anyway.
you cant walk in heels
